Current: A52
Next: OnePlus 12? Maybe. (Or whichever model will be the least expensive bang-for-my-buck)

A friend of mine talked about OnePlus being good when I was lamenting some of the features of the latest Samsung OneUI update that broke a lot of features/apps on my phone and made generally useless changes compared to the previous edition.
I originally chose the A52 because it had it's headphone jack still, and for sure every phone from here on out will not have it, so maybe i'll stick with this and eventually find a way to downgrade the UI, if possible. I don't even like using my phone much, but when I do, it'd be nice to have it not be an annoying task more than it is.
I was looking into the Oneplus phones again but they're doing the same shit Samsung is with their higher trim devices: no sd card slot. It seems sd cards are features only on low to mid range phones.

Does anyone remember the Nokia phones w/ the window OS? My younger self loved those. Such a shame they don't make them anymore. I guess the closest thing to that are the Google Pixel(?) phones, but Google pisses me the fuck off.

Are “compact” (read: considered normal size until recently) phones dying? I’m looking around for a new phone and most everything is 75+ mm wide, and the smaller phones only go up to 256 GB storage with no SD slot. The Samsung Galaxy S24 goes up to 512 GB but that specific model isn’t sold in the US because fuck you. Xperia looks good but I don’t want to support Sony.

I wanted the Sony Xperia 1 V so bad, but the price is fucking crazy for a phone. It's the only camera that allows you to take photos in RAW format and film 4K HDR (except for an iPhone...), which is pretty much a high end vlog camera at this point. But the price is not worth it since if you add another $1000 you can buy a real system camera that will also last longer.

How long does the average phone last now until it throttles down into an unusable brick, 2 - 4 years? I'm not paying $1500 for that! Especially when the gov. is shutting down 2G and 3G (which is the only signal I have where I live) for expanding their 5G faggotry, its range is literally in the same category of WiFi compared to 4G. We went from having access to long range communication to only having WiFi because most people live in urban areas where they need 4K Netflix Nigger Slop™ on their phones 24/7. God I hate the phone market so much.

I just want 5 things on a phones + network hardware specs:
  1. High quality image/video recording (4.5K, 10-bit color, GoPro and Apple have done this.)
  2. Texting/chats ("long range" internet, can't believe I have to type that for a phone now...)
  3. Phone/video calls (again, "long range"...)
  4. Phone jack (for lavalier microphones and headsets)
  5. MicroSD card reader (2 would be nice, but at least 1)
Am not being unreasonable here (I'm willing to go down to 4K on the video part), but it seems like I'm. Thanks to the retards buying chink phones with cameras lying about their camera sensors, only earpods support and bloat. My only options now is $1000 garbage that will brick the coming two years. Yeah, I'm not buying anything for now.

> at least the EU will have replaceable batteries on all phones now
Doesn't even matter if I can't use the fucking thing to begin with!

This is truly disgusting, and should be talked about more. Phones shouldn't be replaced this quickly. Fucks sake, I'm daily driving a Nokia E90. From 2008. And it is on the original battery.

There's no way modern device longevity should be getting dunked on by a fucking late 2000s Nokia. Technology has improved enough that there's no excuse; It has to be intentional. Every fucking one of these companies is making phones that are meant to be thrown in the trash two or three years later. They *could* make these phones last, sure, but they won't. Because forcing people to replace what should be a long term purchase with a bunch of frequent short term purchases makes jews horny as hell.

Sony should re-release Xperia Z5C, just give it a good soc that doesn't try to overheat itself. It was a peak phone for me.
Just look at it:
1717330663175.png

What I liked about it:
  • Chunky but small enough to fit into jeans
  • Headphone jack
  • Ready to be unlocked
  • Battery life was decent for its time
  • No gay ass curved screen with camera pinhole
What sucked:
  • It was running hot
  • Dust would get into camera over time
  • Camera wasn't brilliant, but I liked colors
  • Noise cancellation sucked ass, at full volume callers would complaint that they can hear themselves
  • That whole TA partition bullcrap
Lumia 630 was also kino, but 512MB of memory was really handicapping it, I really liked WIndows Phone 8.1. WP 10 killed the whole thing in my opinion. Screen sucked out in the sun as well unfortunately.

Right now I have Pixel 6a, and that thing is nice runs smooth, but there is shit I don't like:
  • Too fucking big. If I ride motorcycle without jacket then it fucking sucks balls, because it barely fits in the pocket of my jeans. It's distracting and uncomfortable.
  • Contactless payments are unreliable, funny thing, my friend with Samsung has same issue, but my iPhone buddy has no problems at all. Really makes you think.
  • Having little details in UI change over time, because of always having the latest Android release kinda sucks sometimes.

It is intentional, phones are not designed for you to have access to information, modern phones are designed to have access to you. There is always an upgrade for them to "read you" more effectivly. Notice how the phones replaced a lot of older items, notebooks, cameras and letter etc. Yet, when you unbox a phone today, the apps for this absolutely suck and need a constant internet connection to not crash. The first red flag should be why you need to log in with an google/apple account on all the phones when you boot it up for the first time.
  1. Notes, no universal simple text file app on android, but it comes pre installed with some retarded "productivity app" with pop ups.
  2. Camera, doesn't allow you to take uncompressed images for important moments and events. The camera apps have some odd software limitations with no way of turning it off, at the same time it comes pre installed with Netflix and Youtube.
  3. No native audio recording app!? But it comes with pre installed Spotify/Youtube music!?
  4. No dictionary app, or at least a decent pdf/ebook reader... like come on, what is the point of a full visible screen if you haven't a good UI for reading, might as well cut the screen size in half.
Old phones (Take Symbian OS for Nokia phones is a good example) had all of these right out of the box (except the ebook reader, don't know if it could open one up).
Pay attention to point 2. and 3. I made. It's is very easy to consoom stuff immediately right after you unboxed the phone, but in order to create stuff with it you need to tinker with it in order to do so ("de-bloat" and use third-party apps).
A modern phone could very easily have all these things (without internet connection!) and exceed older devices, but due to tech kikery and poojets we have now have inferior devices. Only reason nobody mentions this is because people are blinded by higher resolution screens and 3D games on these new phones, and forget that everything else has gone to shit.
People will look at their 2K resolution phone screen, logging in with multiple accounts and sign up for monthly subscription fees and say this is a technical improvement, while their bluetooth wireless headphone is bugging out.

I haven't even touched on how this affects battery life and the current trend of wireless communication shortening its range.

Symbian's S60v3 flavor at least has a native pdf reader built in, for handling those sort of files. I've read an ebook or two on my E90 during long flights. It did just fine.

I'm struggling to find any reason to want a modern phone as my daily driver when, frankly, my Symbian device is way easier for me to work with and handles everything I want to do on a mobile platform. With the possible exception of streaming video, but that's not a high priority when I keep most of the media I enjoy saved locally anyway and can just swap SD cards on the fly.

I've bought more modern flagships over the years but they just don't do anything for me that the Symbian phone can't. It never takes me long to switch back, usually no more than a few weeks. I don't need or want a faster processor because I don't play a lot of shitty mobile games. I don't really give a shit about professional grade cameras because I'm not trying to be a fake ecelebrity on fucking tiktok/instagram.

The E90 can browse the websites I want to browse. It takes pictures that are plenty good for showing precious moments to family. I can play emulated GBA and SNES games when/if I want to and listen to my vast library of MP3s. I can SSH into my work PC using a full telnet client and the physical keyboard. I can email the people I keep in touch with. With the filesystem fully unlocked now I have tight control over what my OS does and does not do. There is no google or apple tracking my every move.

These are the features I want. I am content. I get incredibly annoyed at everyone IRL who keeps trying to talk me into getting the latest thing when the latest thing will do nothing for me my old device can't already. Don't interpret this as a recommendation to go out and buy an old Symbian device; Most of the good models are overpriced on the secondary market these days. But there are definitely upsides to having one if you still have a quality built model laying around in a closet.

I finally made the switch to Android and I have some questions:
  1. Is there a single web browser that lets you swipe in from the right side of the screen to go forward a page? I thought this was an extremely common sense feature that no browser would consider not adding, but apparently not. I'd really like to use Brave if possible, but I'm open to suggestions.
  2. Can I do an on-page search (CTRL+F) with the URL bar in Brave? Again, I thought every browser did this.
  3. Also in Brave, can I rearrange the icons at the bottom of the screen?
  4. Is there a keyboard that either has the same layout as iOS or lets you rearrange the keys to whatever you want? Years of muscle memory are hitting me hard.

A Samsung Galaxy A10 which was previously from my father's work. I'm thinking about saving up to upgrade to an A25 5G when I start working somewhere.

Sony Xperia 1 IV is my daily driver, though I'm looking to downgrade to the Xperia 5 V or the Motorola G64. Honestly I don't use much of the flagship features to warrant the cost and really just want expandable storage and a headphone jack.

Nokia smartphones still exist but are rebranded under HMDGlobal, who produce Android One smartphones. These are close to stock Android but use underpowered Mediatek or Unisoc SoC which ruins the performance.

Current phone: Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G

Next phone: Most likely will be the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but I am waiting for more information about the S25 Ultra to come out before I decide if I am going to buy it or not.

Gonna pick up an iPhone 16 Pro Max when it comes out. Mainly for the camera as I don’t really care for the AI stuff.

Current phone: iphone 13

Next phone: Not sure on a galaxy s24 ultra or iphone 16 pro max. While i enjoy some of the features on an iphone. I hate alot of the ticky tacky, nit picky stuff that makes them apple. The watch and apple tv are better than the phone IMO.

But need to get a different phone since the lightning port on my phone no longer takes a charge nor transfer data. I can only charge with a wireless charger, which is slow.

iPhone 14 Pro Max - had an iPhone since the 3GS and have absolutely zero interest in moving to Android.

Unless something catastrophic happens to my phone I'll wait until the 16 series is released before upgrading.

This infuriates me to no end. And even for those that do, it's hard to export them all at once. Can't be that hard to write text files into folders and zip them up right?

I wish all phones came with the "Simple Apps" suite, but of course that got sold to (((ZipoApps))).
