  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
But need to get a different phone since the lightning port on my phone no longer takes a charge nor transfer data. I can only charge with a wireless charger, which is slow.

possibly just clogged, power it down and try scraping out all of the lint with a needle or something.

The sim ejector pin thing is really handy for that. Don’t just jam it in and scrape, you want to coax the lintball out and keep the pin in the centre of the port and away from the edges where the contacts are.

I always have one handy when i need to clean put the port of my phone. Tried it a few months ago when it started acting wonky. And tried again just now. Cleaned it and still doesn’t want to charge.

Just saw this one.

Google pixel 7 pro with GrapheneOS.

Overall its pretty nice. My next phone is definitely going to be something else i can put another custom rom on. I might go graphene again. Or go with lineage so I can do stuff that needs root privelegdes. But idk. I'll decide when that time comes.

Current phone: iphone 13

Next phone: Not sure on a galaxy s24 ultra or iphone 16 pro max. While i enjoy some of the features on an iphone.
I remember my galaxy s10 had a shitload of pre installed dog turds (uninstallable) before it died suddenly from hardware failure, people call them features but they mostly just added bloat, the good thing about samsung/google flagships is they have a 7 year os/security update policy and as far as I understand they have very good security the downside is buying a google phone (jew devils) or a samsung (bloatware turd). I usually try keep a phone for at least around 6 years so a 7 year update policy is great but usually I drop it and it explodes and im forced to buy another (or it just blows itself up like my s10).
Android is made by google and then just reskinned by other companies so by getting a pixel you cut down on bloat by a bit and get a little bit better performance with what ive seen people refer to as a "streamlined and clean ui" but I also fucking hate google as a company

I would love a phone that has under 3 uninstallable apps, a long term update policy, a sd card slot,a good camera, nfc support, and is fast but these companies need to include dumb ai shit and a fecal matter tester instead

Custom rom. Its literally the only way to get around giving google every bit of info the can from the phone. And even thats not perfect. But its better.

I went graphene because you get a sandboxed version of the play store that doesn't let it do all the malicious stuff it normally does. Because as much as not using it at all sounds nice. To use the modern internet on a phone. Its pretty hard to get around it.

Like i installed hermit, and another open source app like it. That lets you make webapps out of whatever site you want to avoid downloading the app to use it. But thats still a hassle because you get constant use the app popups.

Another plus for graphene is they also provide 7 years of support.

Lineage and others are good options too. I just can't recommend enough to not use google, and apples spyware.

Had a S8 unlocked version i bought in 2017. But I could only disable the Facebook app that came bundled with the phone. I only used social media back then in my browser. I’ve been removed from Facebook/Twitter/Snapchat/Reddit since 2021. Back then, you only got two major updates with a year of security updates. Decided to not buy another samsung until they could match Apple’s longevity of updates.

Bought the Pixel 4XL in 2020 right before the coof started. Liked the phone but got a iphone in 2021 to see how i would like it. Not the best experience. I do like imessage, apple watch, and Apple TV. Other than that, i really am not a fan. And apple does ticky tacky shit that is irritating. For example, the other day, my wife wanted to output Netflix from her phone to a projector. Even bought the right dongle for it. The screen showed up just fine but it would give a spinning wheel when loading the app. Come to find out, apple decided to not let you output any DRM streams since an update to IOS16, which came out in 2023.

Stuff like that really grinds my gears.

iPhone 14 Pro… Next phone? Likely the 16 Pro.

I’m not wholeheartedly against switching to Android, there are some nice phones out there. But once you’re stuck in the ecosystem…

But if I wasn’t, the Huawei Pura 70 looks really good.

I have a question, maybe it's a dumb one - do Google pixel phones are region locked or it doesn't matter and they will work with every SIM card and just regional flavour apps are locked? Thinking of taking one soon-ish

This is a big one. I try not to get locked into a ecosystem. My apple watch, i got for free from work and i bought the apple tv in 2022 because my nvidia shield was on its last leg. And there wasn’t a good alternative not named Apple at the time.

Ecosystems can be nice. But it really makes it harder to switch if you’re fully committed to a ecosystem.

Yeah. I mean it’s not an UNSOLVABLE problem.

You can get something else than Apple Music. Spotify or whatever.

But all your movie purchases? And then your tens of thousands of pictures, emails etc.

It’s an issue. Apple knew what they were doing when they made their services so sticky.

Kind of a bummer. The new Chinese phones, Oppo, Huawei, etc have some really great cameras.

I've had a Samsung Galaxy s10e since launch and its a phenomenal phone, but she's definitely not the spring chicken she used to be. I have no idea what I'll get next. I was thinking of getting a factory new one on Ebay but idk how safe that is.

Look up if the phone is only gsm or cdma unlocked, I think most unlocked phones are both but some are only gsm OR cdma so you cant get service if you have the wrong provider, I think verizon uses cdma and tmobile uses gsm

With an international unlocked/global phone im pretty sure they use all bands in all countries but I dont know enough about it tbh, I do know you loose some dogshit features on international unlocks like samsung pay and whatever else dependent on device but your gonna wanna make sure you have the right coverage in general so you dont need to switch providers

We have a family plan for Apple Music. Good thing is, you can use it in your browser and android. Not that big of a deal and i have all my favorite music in my MP3 folder.

I don’t buy digital movies so that’s not a problem. Luckily i never used apple’s email, except for their Hide My Email, which is handy.

I currently have the Sony Xperia 1 v.
Even though overpriced it retains a lot of features companies itch to remove. Like the headphone jack and microSD slot. It's a holdout in that regard. I'm super happy with it overall.

If I switch models in the near future I want something small(like really small) but all the small shit like the Zenfone seems to keep getting discontinued.

OnePlus Nord N20. It would be a decent phone for the price if the QC wasn't ass. I've been having issues with it dropping network signal lately. And it always happens at the worst possible time.

Currently have 3 phones:
Some chink made Nokia dumbphone
Oneplus 6 with linux on it (currently typing this from it)
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (horrible, build quality and the software)

Because my first two phones do the stuff perfectly fine i use them for so im looking at getting a tablet. This would replace my third chinkium phone. Only things i actually use it for is 2fa and content consooming (newpipe, pirated movies/shows with mpv). I would also add a requirement and thats pencil support.

The one i found thats not Apple is Lenovo Tab P11 second gen. Looks like it has a good screen and supports the pencil.

My Z Flip 4 just got stolen at a concert a few weeks ago and I've renounced all newer smartphones because of it. Broke leeches will always target you. Back to using an old busted up iPhone 7 and I'll use it until it explodes.
