Aqua currently has over 2 million subs. What percent of their entire talent has that many? She is still very popular and is still a money printer with merch, sponsorships, etc.

I don’t see how it’s smart business to just let an IP and character they have built up just walk. I wonder what percent of the OG talents are also tired of the idol grind bullshit. If most seemingly don’t mind the grind and idol bullshit, then there shouldn’t be complaints of unfair treatment, but even if there was you’d still tell them to fuck off because she’s a veteran who has earned the right to work as they please (seemingly like Gura has).

The whole idol grind narrative doesn't make sense, when you consider that Aqua actually enjoyed the idol aspect of Holo.
She was one of the first members to get any sololives before the restrictions (She got 3 if you count the Nissin one). And she regularly made covers and original songs. She also regularly streamed karaokes too.
In Miko's own words, she was one of the most idol like Holos

Anyone who regularly watched her could confirm that.

Most likely, she just got fed up with trying to get permissions from management for streaming games and other related projects. Seems like the most likely thing according to what Suisei said

The popular speculation from the JP side of things, which is even trending on JP twitter now because of how regularly JP fans are mentioning it, has nothing to do with any thoughts on China (I'll be real the fixation and rratposting on that topic is a mostly western thing by a wide margin) Is that the disagreement from Aqua is more related to her not wanting as much pressure on the "Idol route" side of holo and instead wanting to just stream as a gaming streamer who happens to sing sometimes like was the case for holo when she first joined (Hololive didn't start going hard on the idol side of things until partway through it's existance) Hololive as a company is a very different animal than it was at the time someone like Aqua first joined, so something like that wouldn't be that surprising to me, and everything about this graduation seems to be amicable even with whatever disagreement is going on.

This wouldn't surprise me. I know HoloMyth have been streaming a lot less the last year or two compared to when they first debuted and have been talking about being tired a lot due to their schedules and while that might be self imposed for a workaholic music creature like Calli, I doubt Ame would willingly choose dance practice and concerts over streaming games if given the option.
