Mega Rad Gun Thread

Best steel and aluminum mags i've used are Duramag and ASC.
Only steel ones I've ever used were HK. I got them as a predeployment present shortly after they came out and before the feed lip issue showed up. Carried them as my first 4 and always blamed my rifle because it couldn't be the $50 precision made Kraut mags. Sometime after I got back home I saw posts about the issues and two of my mags were fucked. I hate HK with a fiery passion and will never buy one of their products.

I wish I had the luxury of nabbing some HK or even FN mags but they're not available in my local shops and I live in one of those states that caught on about 10 years back you could buy 30 rounders and said waitaminute we need to legislate the fuck out of that so that came to an end but I was lucky enough to score a couple Tapco 30 round Mini-14 mags and they're cool as fuck looking faux bakelite orange AK mag before they went out of business.

while i wasn't too impressed with the HK "high reliability" magazines as they worked fine in my personal experience but the weight was meh and they didn't play nice with tracers. i preferred (and used) mostly Adventure Line and Okay with the magpul follower or the Colt and Sendra's with the dark green follower. the black follower was "okay" but had issues sometimes. i prefer mostly the C-Products Stainless Steel mags these days but still like the Lancers, 2nd gen Magpuls, the magpul "E-Mag", the 1st gen Thermolds (with the maple leaf on it), and the Orlite mags. E-landers and gen 1 magpuls are meh imho. Hex mag too. not impressed with the 2nd Amend mags (shame), and the US made Thermolds were garbage along the same vibe as Promag.

for someone wanting cost reduced mags that are still good, ASC, magpul, and D&H are hard to beat. ETS were kinda fragile imho.

:diddler:do you guys like pmag or metal AR mags better

I am not a boomer but I had a HARD aversion to plastic being used as anything outside of grips in firearms. I thought Glocks were dumb then years later I owned 5 of them. I used to be feel the same way about Pmags vs metal feed lipped rough and tough metal 30 rounders and yet again I started playing with PMags and I don't think I even own a single 10 rounder metal stanag at this point.

I think the turning point was when I heard about 4-5 PMags being run over by a car and bounced back to shape and loaded and fired all 30 an hour later.

Don't have a AR, but I do have mags (fixed in my rifle lol). All have been metal and work fine. SKS mag is a work of art. I find the belted 300 win mag rounds in my Franchi Momentum can be annoying though. I know they do make 300 win mag AR's (somehow), I don't know how well they would have fixed the belt issue. I do know Ruger P series mags are good, all steel.

As for a thought I had, I wish there were more 40 cal PCC'S in more flavors. Most companies have at least one, but it's like 1 model. I find what companies like Steyer have done with their 40 cal steyer Aug conversions cool, it's just annoying they never sell them. They just have them for south America, since everyone is on coke down there.

Has anyone found 20 round mags that actually can be loaded to 20 and easily inserted on a closed bolt? I have several brands, and they all are super tight when loaded to 20. This is on a gun that I can put 30 round mags loaded to 30 in easily, so it’s not the gun.
I've found Lancers to have enough room to upload to 21, so plenty of give on the spring when loaded to 20.

Retrowavecore, or something idk

Goddamn the nostalgia hits HARD with this one.

1990s as fuck, the guns are also 1990s as fuck.

Right before the 1994 abomination was passed as well....

Fun fact : this is the first time ever a holographic sight was in a movie.

Another reason why Ronin is a timeless/outstanding action movie

In China they passed a law some time back where if you buy anything that's barrel grade steel remotely close to a barrel profile was banned without license

Yeah I'm SURE Lin Bao is going to totally follow that law on his Alibaba account....

The just renamed it as "high pressure steel" and the blanks are simple cylinders.

Same way you can EASILY get fentanyl and other drug precursors and pill makers from China easily

Hating H&K is good and correct. Fuck those sanctimonious German pricks.

You dont even need particularly high strength steel for some calibers. I doubt anyone buying barrel blanks from china to make some home made gun is going to have the cutting tools and machinery needed to make even a 556 barrel. But 9mm mak or 22lr are very low pressure, and can be safely fired out if even lowgrade steel provided its not totally metallurgically inconsistent and is thick enough. Hell they used to make gun barrels out of straight brass (called gun metal) back in the day.

My Brownells 20 rounder works fine fully loaded and inserted on a closed bolt. Of course it seems they may have altered it in the meantime, but I'll be getting a few more for my new A1 Dissipator LARP kit.

Anyone ever had a rifle that hates brass but takes steel case just fine? I've got a semi-auto that does fine with steel but shits the bed when feeding it brass mainly with FTE/FTF .
Still trying to find old lots of Vympel steel case. My favorite ammo brand by far, rip sanctions.

I had a post on an FAL/G3 question. Well, I'll be getting the FAL folks, I got a looked at it the other day and realized it's got everything in parts kit form and appears to be Australian L2A1 (or at least with new furniture made to fit it) with some 30 rnd mags.

Billy britbongs into buying 3d printers and manufacturing firearms.
This was brought up in the UK riots thread, and the issue I brought up (and really one of the major issues with 3D printing as a definitive solution to gun control) is that while it’s not too difficult to print a firearm, where are you going to get the ammo? I doubt you can get something like 9mm easy, it’ll be hard to make it yourself (a sperg in Germany tried to do a mass shooting with a FGC with 9mm black powder ammo and it jammed after like 4 rounds), and even if you use something a little easier to get like .22lr I guarantee you that the Brits have some retarded law against possessing too many bullets or some shit.

the only rifle i have like that is the mosin. and by that i mean the brass rounds seem to expands so much that it makes operating the bolt difficult, but steel cases dont seem to cause this problem for me. last time i shot the mosin i was using brass case and i had to literally palm heel strike the bolt open after each shot. when i got back home my palm was so sore and bruised from it. never had to do that with steel case.
only two other rifles i have is a .22 and that seems to be no problem, and my ak-74. never tried brass case through it. (dont even know if anyone even makes brass case 5.45)

never had a problem with any of my pistols and brass case ammo.
