. He also blathered on about Ukraine being in the Russian "sphere of influence" which is some very old-fashioned Cold War thinking.
It predates the Cold War, since I know it was the justification in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War for precisely how much of Eastern Europe Stalin got to enslave. So much for "muh Poland," eh, Limeys?

I don't know if that's the actual origin of the term, but it does go back to at least 1944.

I get where you are coming from, and I understand your argument.

This war is not about history.

As for Rishi Sunak and his conscription thing, bitch, please. Which fever dream caused this?
I have a theory about this. They are so ridiculously out of touch that they genuinely thought that serving HM's government in uniform would actually appeal to the average patriotic man when in practice, the average briton understands that the social contract is firmly against them so they feel no love for the government. There even was one completely deranged piece by some upper-class twit that the youth of Britain should consider it as a favor to return for having their health protected by the lockdowns.

edit: the original title of the piece I linked

Yup, I thing there is a lot of truth to this.

Boris advocating not for a ceasefire, and not for a Surender will be seen as the biggest mistake of this war.
Russia will win this war via sheer attrition. They have more cannon fodder than the other side.
I don't think Boris' opinion would make any difference either way. His pronouncements were almost certainly dictated by Washington DC in any case.

It's a bit like Labour's various seizures over Gaza. What makes any of the nutters involved think the Israeli government gives a single shit what the British opposition (as they were) thinks about Gaza? They don't even listen to the Americans, how self-centred do they have to be to think the opinion of the MP for Norf F.C. is going to be in Netanyahu's mind the next time he decides to bomb an orphanage? I remember when a gang of pro-Palestine protesters stormed a meeting by Walsall Council to demand that Walsall Council demands a ceasefire. A councillor there said something like "We can barely run Walsall, I don't know what they're exactly expecting us to do about war in the Middle East.

The fact is, as I heard someone on the radio say a few months ago, none of these people have a policy on Gaza. A policy is a set of things you are going to do. Nobody is going to do a damn thing about Gaza because none of them CAN do a damn thing about Gaza. What they have isn't a "policy", it's a "posture". It's an opinion they have to virtue signal to their voters. You may as well have a policy about Jupiter. For any body below the national government, that applies to Ukraine too. Too many motherfuckers spending time arguing about things they have no control over when the things they do have control over are falling apart.

It also didn't help that the only things Sunak could provide as reasons for people to get into the service is having their bank accounts locked and voiding driver licenses if they don't show up.
That's why I said in my big post that Sunak is a WEF stooge. Fortunately his grip on the country was so weak he couldn't persuade anyone into any pods and had to row back all his bug-eating policies. But those instincts are there, he clearly believes, as does Starmer, as does Sadiq Khan in particular, that the citizens of the UK are the property of the State. People like that don't see themselves as democratic leaders, they see themselves more like medieval kings.

Black pilled by Spunt.

He is absolutely correct.

Dipshits in the UK parliament screaming about Gaza will have no effect on Israel's attitude. Like Just Stop Oil all they do is interfere with my day. And with JSO I have used violence to remove them from interfering with my day.

Isreal and Gaza is up to them, I really can't be arsed with either of them . At some point they have to figure out a solution.

It won't be 2 state.

A king would offer knighthoods and titles for those who serve well. These elites only can offer the stick to the interchangeable producer-consumer units that they see the population as, since offering wages and medals might be expensive.

Most of the issues raised in the excellent post quoted seem to be domestic, which given the issues, makes sense. (And actually a lot are just rampant corruption.) Speaking of corruption, did Ukraine play any part in the electorate? Or was that related to the ill-advised conscription?

I know I constantly am pissed off any time I hit a pothole, to think that the billions of dollars wasted into the Uke-Russo hinterlands, could have gone to rebuilding actual infrastructure. Then I remember all the other money wasted and just get on with my life.

The average person in the UK doesn't care about any of these foreign wars and doesn't want to be involved in them. Despite what the BBC keeps trying to push you see very little support for either side in day to day life. You might see some idiot flying a flag but the majority of people have real life to deal with. If it's not trying to budget increasingly small amounts of money, it's trying to figure out which of the 17 bins/buckets they need to put out this week since now they're on a stupid schedule and if you miss your main bin pick up it's 2 or 3 weeks with no bin. There is so much decline here it's hard to explain how much busy work something as simple as throwing away rubbish has become.

Damn, what a thread.
@Spunt You've achieved something quite special in these posts, they're bloody magnificent.
As a fellow Bong, I wish that I could have articulated my thoughts on this rathole island to others as well as you have laid out here. While it's unfortunate you had to have surgery, it did gift us with one hell of a good read.
Well done for planning your escape to the sun. If I didn't have family responsibilities I'd be off like a greyhound too. One day.

People in this country are angry and desperate. That's why they take drugs and smash things.

...but when the Police failed to quell the initial disturbance, violence broke out in almost every city in the country - and the Police were nowhere to be seen. Most of the perpetrators weren't interested in the shooting anyway, they just saw an opportunity to smash things and steal from undefended shops. The rioting and looting continued for days...
This post is probably better suited for one of the Autistic Thunderdome threads, but I cannot lie when I say that when I heard what's been going down with the riots in the Norf due to the Southport massacre, I thought back to this thread and particularly how prophetic it's beginning to be, even as a non-Brit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I'm seeing these are the harshest riots in the UK since 2011 at least. Even the impossible has been made possible - the Irish and British flags were marching together in Belfast against mass unchecked immigration. Wild scenes are playing out with burned down police stations and looted stores, things people never thought they would see from the native population again.

A lot of non-Brits, from what I saw, attribute the cause of the riots directly to the attack in Southport, with the usual propagandists decrying it as a result of "misinformation about the killer." I think there's something more to it, though. Britbongs have seen their country fall apart right in front of them for years, decades even; they've watched basic infrastructure fall apart as migrants live off the government's teat and get treated with kiddy gloves whenever they commit crimes. As Spunt said, people are angry and desperate and they've had enough. The Southport mass stabbing wasn't the cause of these riots, it was the trigger for them. We are seeing the results of a retarded series of governments over the past decades play out in front of our eyes. I don't think this is the mass riots Spunt was talking about at the end of his series of posts about Britain's collapse, but it's almost certainly an ominous preview of things to come.

Fantastic write-up, man. This thread deserves the bump it'll get.

These new habbenings deserve a new post imo, I'm thoroughly fascinated by them and they're some of the most hilarious things I've read on this site. Maybe it's just because British people have far better comedic timing and don't rely on sheer absurdism, I dunno.
I'm afraid I am way too depressed and angry to write about this clusterfuck. I'd have to research the post and that would involve going over all this shit again and I'd probably start fedposting out of sheer rage. Sorry.

Completely understandable. If ever there was a week/fortnight that induces doom scrolling this would be it.
