I don't really care that much about the DOE, I really think Trump is more than willing to compromise over it and is using this position to get a better deal. Maybe less funding, or maybe more funding and less gender shit.

Where does the constitution empower the federal government to oversee education? All power not explicitly given to the federal government goes to the states who should individually run education in their state. All the department of education does is allow the federal government to extort the states by threatening to withhold funds if they do not do as they demand.

I’d assume it would allow more cash flow into state education development. Trump touched on families moving their children out of failing school systems in California and whatnot. I don’t see any benefit of keeping it around if it exists to fund politicians and not families raising children.

A lot of what the Department of Education does is provide supplementary financial assistance to local and state education systems. For example: the Department of Education gives quite a bit of money for special education programs. I fully support that. Most of their money, though, goes to Pell Grants and Title I grants. Basically, they give really poor people free money to get a BA (Pell Grants) or give extra money to really poor school systems (Title I grants). In order to get a Pell Grant, you have to be very poor, but the way they are awarded nowadays is typically along racial lines. Title I grants have always been racially skewed because of poor black areas.

Like most governmental departments, it serves a purpose. The problem is when technocrats and ideologues (read: commies who really need a steady diet of hot lead injections into their brains) capture these departments and use them for their own purposes.
