Today my family tried to get out of me who I'm voting for
Consider yourself lucky. My father is a ride or die boomercrat and, somehow, I came out conservative. He never wastes an opportunity to yell at me like he's watching Fox News. One time, he started screaming at me about Qanon and I looked at him like the drunk asshole he is and said "when have I ever espoused Qanon shit?"

The answer is never.

Today my family tried to get out of me who I'm voting for, and I realized I actually don't know if I want to or if I should vote at all. I have pretty strong views on specific issues and both candidates have sworn to do things I absolutely fucking hate and affect me personally, basically. It feels like voting if I want to get shot in the left foot or the right foot.

For a while I've been thinking "Who are these undecided voters anyways?" and literally just today I realized I'm one of them.
Without going into more specifics about my state, I don't really think it fucking matters what my vote is, it's a foregone conclusion. All of my family and many of my friends are highly political one way or the other, and I feel like it'll just start fights I don't want to fight if I make a choice either way.

Obviously I don't have to tell them my choice, but if I go vote they'll know I made a choice, and if I don't assure them I chose their side, they'll assume I voted for Hitler because that's how these things work I guess. The best choice seems to be to not leave my fucking house on Election Day and to have a good alibi to prove I never voted at all. I'm still going to hear "you refused to fight for my righteous cause, you didn't say no to Hitler" for the next few years regardless..... God I hate politics.
I'm sorry that your family is treating you that way.
Vote or not; the real issue here is your family relationship, or lack thereof. I really don't want to recommend disconnecting from them, but it sounds like they've already disconnected from you if they're going to treat you this poorly, especially based on their own assumption, and not even give you a moment of understanding. You may need to just cut them off and hope they realize their own foolishness at some point while starting your own family.

Expecting for Omar to stay, but I'll pray for some good news.

I really do hope that Republican voters pulled through on this open primary tonight.

Minnesomalia. The light-bulb head menace will not abate.

I honestly wonder if some of them have isolated themselves to the point where they're in an odd parasocial relationship with the radio or TV news.
This 100%. The meme about NPCs and whatnot isn't just that they take their political, economic, social, or even basic moral views from media, but that they empathize (if you want to call it that) more with a media personality than they would with their own families, neighbors, animals, or anyone in their real life. This is a mental health addiction that targets the same dopamine receptors as some guy giving his life savings to a twitch thot's chair.

It doesn't help that the low intelligence/low ego types are exactly the kind who accept language changes with ease. They simply don't 'hold' onto language. Just to BS slightly but this is probably connected with the threat processing centers of the brain not viewing change appropriately for survival, except expanding from the singular to the group. Linguistically it makes sense, tight communities often memetically add/diversify their own language. Groups, of any size or type, have in-speak such as new filler words, nonsense words, place names, cadence, entire accents, ect. This can be seen in everything from friend groups, marriages, children, to broader societal constructs up to nation-state levels. At the same time, people that divorce, or grow apart, civil wars, ect, will 'lose' that language as that connection is broken up.

Language is quite literally a measure of our connections, and these people have no real connections. This 'Parasocial Disorder' is extensive, devious, and a black hole that so many people fall into, ranging from simps and the genuinely retarded, to political entities such as antifa and trannies.

Fuck the federal government.

Why the fuck do you think they're the one holding things together if the outcomes of their 'work' is so consistently dogshit? People who do a shit job should be fired, and government workers who do a shit job should be fired in a kiln.
Honestly, I am optimistic that usually there are people working to bring out the best in a system but that also eventually gets squashed by corruption and misguided attempts at a solution. Seeing a problem is much easier than fixing it. I also do not know exactly how the DOE operates (which I should before I form any opinions) and in my mind it needs reform and not abolishing- because to me it would seem analogous to reforming the FDA to not be swayed by lobbyists and the likes while ensuring a certain standard of quality.

But many people pointed out that states fund their education systems through local taxes and it isn't constitutional to have Federal mandates with how those state systems operate. So I see a difference now and had not thought of it like that before. I do absolutely believe that we need to fix our public education system, I am not sure I am for the idea that each state has full independent control over its public education because I do not trust that would not create a huge corrupted disjointed mess between the states, but I do also see why there is support for getting rid of the DOE. I think massive reform of the DOE would be best, but who really fucking knows.
Also. Thank you to everyone that took time to explain their views, I appreciate that

How many of bidens border menace was bused up there to shore her victory up?
Omar doesn’t need any fraud, she’s propped up by her districts massive Muslim and African immigrant population. Honestly, she’ll probably be the last of her cohort to lose her seat, which she’ll likely keep till redistricting or she leaves to try for something else.
I’d even expect AOC to get the boot before she does.

Trump says he is going to terminate the Dept. of Education. Genuine question to those who agree- Why do you support this, and how do you think it will play out?

I totally get the push back on gender ideology in schools and I also agree that, in its current state, our public education system is rapidly deteriorating overall and is already in shambles in a lot of places. I also cannot see how eliminating the DOE would help the latter though.

Not hating, I want to hear your opinions
I'm in favor.
Reason: States rights good.

I think it's telling that it isn't even 50 years old. It isn't even some Progressive or New Deal era tumor, it's far younger than even those, introduced by Jimmy Carter. The United States didn't need the DoE beforehand, it would be fine without it now.

Tbh, it would absolutely create a disjointed system. A mess? Maybe. But you would absolutely see different curriculums from Wyoming or Alaska than you would from California or New York.

But that’s also the entire point of the Constitution, and the way the Federalist system of governance works. Our states are massive swathes of land, many larger than old world countries. They’re going to have vastly different priorities, cultures, and needs. Allowing them to have vastly different education systems caters to that.

Moreover, I’d argue that even if it was a disjointed mess, it’s still the only democratic thing to do. The American people voted to give up the enumerated powers to the government. It was a purposeful cessation of their inherent liberties in order to establish a more perfect union. Expanding beyond those powers the People ceded seizes our right to self-governance without our consent. We never voted for giving the Fed the power to regulate education, it seized it from us. And it placed it in the hands of the Administrative state, in the hands of unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats.
That this deals with Education, amongst the most important pillars of Culture and Society makes it all the worse.

I feel like someone wrote a document once explaining what should happen when such abuses took place and how those abuses should be remedied but I dunno.

Vance (the Trump campaign, really) sent an email mocking Kamala for wearing a $62,000 necklace on a $284k salary. It's one of those dono begging emails though so most people won't see it.

Trump might LEGALLY win by 4-5%

MAGA Pennsylvanians need to act like Trump is 10 points down. At all times.
People just will not accept that the election was stolen and the Dems have complete intent to do it again. The Dems have not been surprised by Trump running again, nor that COVID is gone. They will have anticipated this because they would have to be nonfunctional vegetables not to. It's right to presume the Dems will adjust their strategy and continue cheating as much as possible.
Mocking your electorate sounds like a smart move. That person has a Palestine flag and they/them in their name. They're literally your perfect voter. Don't screw it up by mocking them for being poor.
Wait was Obama's birth certificate never shown? Really?
An obviously fake one was. He's not a native citizen. He just had copious connections to get into the presidency anyway. He, like Clinton, also has a body count of people who anger or irritate him dropping dead.

I genuinely do not understand why anyone thinks education was worse before 1979.

Yeah, I agree. It would be disjointed but that's the whole point. If you don't like one system you can pick up and move to a different one no passport or visa needed, or you can band together with others and use your vote to change it if enough people agree it should be changed.
You'll get some hits, you'll get some misses, you'll get some states copying others, and some with total batshit tactics. But it's better than one big federal nightmare that's hard to change and gets worse and worse over time with little ability to change it as a voter.
States being different and doing different things differently is a feature, not a bug.
