Some of these Unschool parents probably think that their children will somehow take care of them in their old age, but when an adult can not read, write, or do basic maths, that's not going to happen. it also speaks of laziness on the parents' part, since they could have homeschooled their children and didn't even do that. At least Jim Bob and Michelle's kids, with their faith-based homeschooling are better off than a Unschooled kid.

Assuming these kids later on get their shit together the first lesson they will learn is how their parents abused them and fucked them out of the chance of having a normal life. That's how you get dropped off to Yee ole Retirement Castle or declared insane and left at the state looney bin not supported by your kids.

This study reports that most of the respondents who were unschooled felt satisfied with their experience and most attended college. It's not surprising that some people who were unschooled as children could go on to become happy and successful adults.

The numbers seem fishy, though. The great weakness about survey-style studies is that the participants self-select. I'm curious as to how many participants returned the survey because they wanted to share their good experiences vs. how many unschooled adults are living in cardboard boxes and couldn't read the survey in the first place.

A lot of the other authors are citing this specific study in parroting how smart and great unschooled kids but without the study self-selection caveat on the original source. Alternatively, they're linking to 'articles' on pro-unschooling websites. This seems like an awful lot of kool-aid drinking and not a lot of objective study.

There's something that just clicked. You have this 18 year old who does not have even the basic 3 R's skills. You need that basic competence to fill out job applications. So this 18 year old is not even qualified to flip burgers at McD's because he would not be able to fill out an application in the first place.

Let that settle for a bit. There are children/adults out there who are not qualified to flip burgers. Not because of any legit mental or physical disability, but through failing to do something as preventable as giving them some education/discipline.

Hell, these unschooled kids aren't even qualified to deliver papers, because you need reading and math skills to deliver the papers to the right addresses. Nor can they pick up odd jobs like babysitting or walking the dog, because managing money requires math skills. Not that I would ever trust an unschooled child to take care of an animal let alone a child, because from what I have seen, these unschooled children are spoiled lazy, (literally) uneducated twats.

A bit of powerlevel, but I have a couple of relatives who own cabins up north (among a bunch of other cabins through the area) These cabins are off the grid, but are still proper houses, with locking doors, strong windows, and solid construction of the entire structure. Such vacation cabins tend to be small, 1-3 rooms. Again, off the grid, but these cabins were solid shelters that you would feel safe in.

Something you'd be ok with your kid spending a few hours at with their friends, but not something to live in. That these dipshit parents are actually raising children in that shithole should be illegal.

Well they *did* have a bed for their 10 kids

in May 2015. The children were removed from the home and went to foster care.

In July, for no reason that I can fathom, the state opted to return all ten children to the care of these people, if you can call the way they live as “care.” However, the state retained legal custody of all of them, giving Joe and Nicole only physical custody.

They got a garden shed and live in it with now 13 kids

No bathroom of any sort. No running water. No kitchen. Just what I’d call a big shed, but anyone would consider a very tiny house. The children sleep in the “loft.” And you can see how much space that entails. They can’t stand up. Mom and Dad have a bed right below them.

So that roof you see? That's where 13 kids had their beds and everything. Meanwhile the parents can be where there is room to stand.

At least it's more safe for their kids than the shack right?

The kids share a Kindle Fire and they use the Dog Grooming Salon that the mom owns (the dad literally spends all his time free-loading off of his wife) for wifi.
