Another thing I fully believe when it comes to US politics is that the dems and libs are and have always been the hollywood funded potemkin village party. I guess everyone believed the impossible for millennia.

Prior to more effective birth control, like in Ancient Rome, unwanted babies were typically left to the elements to die from exposure. With the advances in medicine that allow for less infanticide, it needs to be used.

There is a lot of history from Ancient Rome to the 1960s. I agree that contraception obviously leads to less child murder, but it doesn't actually follow that contraception is okay (it's a fair point, though).

Otherwise, you end up with many unwanted kids that will not be afforded as optimal lives, as unplanned pregnancies can be a major financial burden on some families.

Firstly, every child is reared suboptimally, that's reality. Secondly, how suboptimal does a child's environment have to be to say on the balance it would be better that they didn't exist? To justify this logic, there would have to be a precipitous decline in life outcomes associated with number of siblings or we would have to agree that we are talking about children that shouldn't exist.

It also ties into ending the poverty cycle among families. A kid born in poverty doesn’t have a high chance of getting out of it, and birth control (as in IUDs and other methods) being encouraged and widely available means that increased usage of that will diminish unplanned pregnancies, and therefore abortions.

Is number of children the main pressure on poverty? Clearly not when half the world are facing economic crises due to population decline.

The problem we have is that that half of the world feeds the other half, who sit around waiting for aid workers to cook dinner and tuck their kids into bed.

Talking about birth control indiscriminately seriously misrepresents the issue.

I personally find this stance, primarily among Catholics and some Protestant sects, to be one of the most illogical stances.

You are clearly a utilitarian, so you aren't thinking anywhere close to how Christians think about ethics.

I’m also tired of birth control being used as a tool to shame women for having sex, as there are also plenty of married women that regularly use birth control.

Are you speaking from personal experience or complaining about anonymous internet commenters? Premarital sex hasn't been societally shamed in most places for decades unless we are talking about children.

Men benefit from it too, because now they don’t have to worry as much about accidentally impregnating a woman and paying child support afterwards.

"We can have sex without consequences now" is one of the most disastrous things about contraception, not a point in its favor.

Every childless 30-something "girlfriend" waiting for her "partner" of 10 years to commit to something more than splitting the rent is a testament to how empty and lonely most relationships are after the sexual revolution.


Birth control is just too dangerous on societal scale to be universally accessible. The only peoples you could make an argument for are those whose productivity does not materially maintain their population levels (for which "poverty" is a very inapt term).

We are having a very different conversation if we think along those lines.

I actually think Western Europe got the abortion issue right, in my opinion. The limit for most Western European countries is 12 weeks, and afterwards it can only be for:

• Mother’s life in danger
• Rape
• Incest
• Baby having such a severe birth defect that it can’t live more than a few hours, if that, outside the womb

That said, I think birth control needs to be more widely available (and not just condoms). I’d actually be in favor of the government subsidizing IUDs and hormonal implants in women either on welfare or low income (with benefits given for doing so, as kids are way more expensive than birth control). I think it’s dumb to be both anti abortion and anti birth control, because people will have sex anyway, so it’s best to allow more birth control to prevent instances of abortion.

But i am going to say as long as you make women to pay absurd amount of money for proper prenatal and postnatal care , 50k for 3 days in a hospital and giving birth and zero maternity leave you lose any fucking argument for making women to carry an unwanted child to term. You are trying to punish women for having sex and you refuse to punish men at the same time or even hold responsible. Its unjust and unfair and its obvious what are the reasons beyond wanting to feel superior to those "whores" .

Until you make anti-abortion law where men pressuring women to have an abortion are held responsible and women get at least 6 weeks covered by the government dollar for dollar what they would make while they are out of work, to recover from giving birth combined with free hospitals care / covered bills

This is why I advocate so heavily for birth control. More often than not, if a pregnancy happens, women get punished for it. Even if the pregnancy is wanted, women are given little compensation and are expected to be back to work within 4-6 weeks after the birth. On top of that, childcare isn’t a typical benefit, and many parents have to pay out of pocket for it. A woman that chooses to stay home, even if it saves money on childcare costs and helps with bonding, are also punished because they’ll get resume gaps from it, and then discriminated against when going back into the workforce. The corporations and government have no interest in actually helping women most of the time that even want kids, and they wonder why birth rates keep declining.
