DarksydePhil / TheyCallMeDSP / Phil Burnell - General Discussion

The reasoning behind Phil's utter refusal to adapt his technology/'new media'-based "business" to current, ever-changing standards will be a mystery for the ages. It can't be something as simple as him just being an even bigger bull-headed manchild than we originally thought - there has to be something else going on here.

Laziness. That's the long and short of it.

He's lazy for as long as possible until the point when even a cockroach like him can't survive unless he adapts; that's when he makes the tiny change to modernize. In gaming terms, Phil is the guy in Civ who gets out of the Stone Age while everyone else is busy building the spaceship to Alpha Centauri.

Short answer: :autism:

Longer answer: It's been one of the few things he can reliably advertise for his channel, plus he seems to still be under the delusion that streaming at 60FPS makes his content magically better than everyone else's.
He did worry that he wouldn't be able to stream Undertale at 1080p 60fps. Since he acts like everyone is stupider than him it wasn't surprising he'd try to pull off something that :autism:-riddled.

Phil's "testing out a commercial" (yea, "testing", phil....) which means he's going to subject whoever actually came to watch him play games to commercials. Haha... According to chat it's the 5-6th ad since he started 40 minutes ago, which is hilarious. Phil also apparently can't tell when ads are done running on his own stream. This is gonna be a good day. (God bless adblock)

This is actually hilarious. "Guys are you seeing this ad? hold on let me play it again. Press 1 if you can see it!" Yes Phil weve seen the ad 15 times! Please play a game! "Guys I cant see, is the ad going? Press 1! Im gonna play it again okaaay press 1 when you see it go." ... "Guys Im not seeing the money in my adsense account so Im not sure if it's working, Im gonna play it again can you press 1 if you see it?" ... "Do you think if I keep playing it they will give me free money forever? Okay I think it's working this time so Ill play it again and start the stream. ... Oh what the FUCK!? Im hooked up to the XBox One instead of the stupid fucking PS4 awk awk awk! How fucking stupid is that?! Who the fuck did this? Hold on guys, here Im gonna go re-wire this STUPID BULLSHIT awk awk awk! Awh man and we almost started, too! awk awk awk!" as he cues up another ad and an hour of copyrighted music while he fucks around 'troubleshooting'. Then a 15 minute pre-stream about views and how busy he is so he NEEDS the patreon dollars.

This is pretty much how I imagine DSPs streams going. It's my train wreck wet dream.

I dropped into his chat last night and it is really odd, he doesn't talk to the chat at all. That is like the best part of Twitch being recognized by the streamer and feeling appreciated. Even a simple "hey what's up VIEWERNAME?". People were donating and subbin during the stream and he didn't shout out anyone.

Phil is under the impression that his Youtube channel is his main business and he can save it. Thinking like that he believes that doing stream interaction will cause his few remaining youtube watchers suddenly stop watching his hot content.

He does believe he found some games, Darkest Dungeons and Stardew Valley, to do "Chill Streams" where he would interact with chat, but seeing how he has to be playing the hot new game to feed his youtube channel, I doubt he would actually do those streams.

Is there any reason for Phil's obsession with streaming in 60FPS? Its a running thing with him, I've noticed, he's left money on the table because of it, and it sounds like the most esoteric thing to fret about while playing vidya.

I mean, I guess its important now, so those truant 30 frames are apparently helping pay his mortgage but still...

Because autism and "1080P/60FPS!" became the catch-all buzz term last year and we all know how Phil keeps up with the times. Somehow he's convinced himself that that's his ace in the hole.

I don't watch his stream so I don't know, but does the guy still stream at 1080/60fps?

Twitch wouldn't let him last time he tried (he ranted tremendously about this), so I doubt it. (How can you check? on Source it doesnt look bad, but idk)

I found this on some weird twitch analyzer

He always wants the best of everything so long as someone else is footing the bill for the bandwidth.

Pretty much it. He wants to stream in 60 FPS since he thinks it will make his content better despite the fact his gaming skills are still shit. At least at 60 FPS, we can see how he fails.

Oh, thanks for that. I saw people in this thread talked about 1080p/60fps so I wondered if he's up to his tricks again. You know, the one that got him booted off Twitch.

Livestreamer (http://docs.livestreamer.io/) + VLC = No ads at all. God bless Livestreamer+VLC, too!

Only Phil would be autistic enough to be worried over streaming a locked at 30 fps game at 60.
Does he think FPS works like it's some DBZ powerlevel, and the more he has the more views he'll get? seems that way.

Someone actually made this, that is great. The Bob streams were too good. Wish he did more of them.

he does do shout outs after break but that is about it beside phil can't read the chat and play a game at the same time why do you think he has to stop playing and look at chat when he needs hand holding
Offtopic, but yesterday's stream with Jim and 51 year old indie dev had weapon grade levels of :autism:
https://www.twitch.tv/dndn1011/v/104373559
