OT: As the most non-Star Wars person imaginable, I find the continued implosion of this franchise extremely fascinating to watch. Of the new stuff I've only seen TFA (bland but inoffensive,) Rogue One (charisma vacuum and embarrassing fan service) and ROS (bewildering incompetence). It's hard to believe Disney have spent so much money to fumble what should have been a reliable cash cow, and they refuse to pull up.

Currently waiting to see how Star Wars Outlaws turns out. I personally hated Fallen Order and Survivor but the concept had potential; Outlaws looks much, much more boring.

Disney wants to keep that sweet Blackrock Investment money coming and so will do anything to appease lefty millenials. It is staggering to see just how badly the franchise fell with the sheer weight and creative talent behind it. Too many chefs spoil the broth methinks. So much is this committee designed bullshit. That star wars hotel / immersive experience lasted on 18 months after millions spent. And i think that changed the strategy.

Now their plan is to hand out smaller budget projects for individual directors to manage and throw them at a wall until one sticks. I hear Andor is pretty decent. But for every 1 Andor they have to crank out 3-4 bits of slop media like the Acolyte. While the varied approach is better, it does result in the name being tarnished, though quite frankly, this has always been the case since the Holiday Special.

Acolyte has some and gone with no set releases and, although I am not a SW mark I do follow Lego leaks/rumors fairly closely, and I have not seen any news of to be released Acolyte sets. Consider, Lego has previously released sets which spoiled moments in Disney+ SW shows and just recently released a set on August 1 for a series called “Skeleton Crew” which hadn’t even been properly announced yet. It has a lot to do with TLG’s fairly rigid release schedule. If Acolyte sets were coming, we’d have known. TLG really dodged a bullet on this one, somehow. The question is, how did they know

Do we even care about Star Wars at this point? I ask myself this from time to time. I dont even really feel like watching the OT anymore.

I thoroughly enjoyed Andor last year (and wanted to see the 2nd season), but cancelled disney+ because I didnt want my children seeing the gay stuff that was popping up on that service. I thought Mando 1 and 2 were good, but The Book of a person who is not Boba Fett was not good and Mando 3 I didnt even bother to watch as I didnt have disney+ anymore.

Its really just not worth the effort, it is stained and tarnished too much.

It, like a lot of American media, is a lolcow franchise.

Tropical jungle
Frozen wasteland for a short time
A town for a few shots
Beach with a cave
Starships
Random rooms

Costumes and effects weren't that impressive either.

Ep 7 is just a rehash of A New Hope. Ep 8 is Rian Johnson doing some bizzare take on "Hunt for Red October" from the perspective of Red October. Ep 9 is "fuck, Rian killed the main villain, bring back Palpatine and nostalgia bait the fuck out of EVERYTHING."

I wouldn't say so. Everyone who hated the show seemed to like him, so he got good exposure to the English speaking audience. I'd watch whatever he's in next, out of curiosity if not for a full series run.

It's kind of the same effect Sydney Sweeney got from her role in Madame Web. Abysmal movie, but people who had never seen Euphoria suddenly saw her (and her red carpet outfit), so she got more famous.

If this keeps happening to semi-obscure actors, coming out as the sole crowd pleaser in a bloated franchise bomb, we're going to need an official name for the trend.
