It actually didnt dawn on me till this thread started getting traction that he was the retard who got angry at matpat for doing a shitty livestream of his game

Its fucking hilarious that this controversy is 5 years old now and his game isnt out anyways and that it also turned into a bigger deal than it was probably due to thor's ego, in hindsight

That's one of the few things I'd agree with ol musty muskrat about. Making a video about your game and fully tagging it with a more popular game and not even linking to the game on steam is a pretty shitty thing to do.

The situation could have been solved if Jason privately DM'ed Mattpat and asked if he could just link his game but no Jason decided to make it a public spectacle because he is an attention whore. Also, another disgusting thing with that situation is that this faggot accused Matpat's fans of doxing and harassment and never provided proof for it and he brought up that claim while he wanted to "move on" from the situation.

Oh, matpat was in the wrong, but that controversy felt bigger than it actually was and seeing how smug Jason is makes me question in hindsight how much of it was because of Matpat's negligence/retardation and how much of it was Jason's ego

Streaming 12+ hours a day while being in a state of constant fear must be really difficult. I wonder why he keeps doing this to himself.

C-like:
// Mald talks about how undertale's dialogue system is insane
global.dialog_array[1583,1] = "There are sections of the game that show like, oh, here's an example:";
global.dialog_array[1584,1] = "All the dialogue in all of undertale is in a single switch case statement in one object.";
global.dialog_array[1585,1] = "Its thousands and thousands of cases long. Single object.";
global.dialog_array[1586,1] = "All of the dialogue in the game. Hardcoded into that object.";

Can anyone give me a tldr of that drama? All I know is that gt did a livestream of it and it somehow spiralled into a huge drama.

Another "interesting" take from Mald (preservetube). The "amazing AGS QA" is particularly funny, if we take into account what a shitshow New World was.
I wonder why the editor didn't include this portion of the same stream, though. Maybe because it makes Mald look really fucking butthurt, probably due to people (rightfully) questioning his "developer" credentials, seeing as he spent a lot of his time as QA, which is as close to "unskilled labor" as you can get.

"For anyone who doesn't realize this, Quality Assurance (QA) is also developers. Yeah. Yeah they are. Because you don't get to release a video game without them reviewing it. They're part of development, and anyone who says otherwise can eat shit. Yeah! Hahaha!" -Jason Thor Hall
Some upper manager at Blizzard told him this, and it worked so well that he stayed in the QA department for nearly 5 years, and he still believes it to this day.

But let's play pretend. During Jason's tenure as a QA "Developer", he worked on and released:
  • World of Warcraft: Cataclysm - The first expansion to lose subscribers, and never recovered.
  • Diablo 3 - Game didn't work at launch, pay to win via the "Real Money Auction House"
  • Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty - Made less money than a $15 Sparkle Horse mount in World of Warcraft
  • Heroes of the Storm - A.S.S.F.A.G.G.O.T.S.
  • Hearthstone - Pay to win, online gambling for children.

Barring New World and a shitty "Episodic" and now delisted racing game based on a tv show, all the things Amazon games proper has developed and released have been shitty mobile games, lmao

Not necessarily. In the context of a software company QA can mean anything from monkey who uses the software to make sure it doesn't break to guy who writes programs to automate that process. Though since this guy never specifies which he did I would assume it leans towards the former.

  • Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty - Made less money than a $15 Sparkle Horse mount in World of Warcraft
Be careful, this rumor originated from Jason himself so I wouldn't trust it too much

As silly as it is, this one misinformed take on one of my special interests is where my opinion of him went from vaguely positive to negative. If I'm wrong here, someone please correct me.
All of his programming stuff is 10x worse, and his cybersec stuff 100x worse. Please trust me. I would not hire this man.

QA is the lowest shit when we’re talking gamedev. QA in gamedev means testing the same level or interaction 100 times in a row manually; at least QA in other industries could potentially involve writing simple scripts to automate this. But man, QA in games dev is being a little monkey doing the same things again and again. It is as far divorced from the dev process as you can possibly be while still maybe getting a spot in the credits.
Before you come at me with exceptions to the rule: if he had been one, he would’ve said so.

This old blog is an interesting read for what „QA in Games“ means:
not all tales are from QA ppl, but many

The answer is quite simple: we just need to pool our money together and buy Microsoft. Then, we will be able to know the truth.

From what I recall (anyone else can correct me if I'm wrong here) GTLive did a playthrough of the demo of their game with the stream/VOD being titled something like "The next Undertale" which led people to believe that it was actually some sequel to Undertale and Toby Fox was involved (though he obviously was not), and to make matters worse, MatPat said that their studio was called Pirate Games instead of Pirate Software (to be fair, pretty minor mistake), and he didn't link to the game in the description. Jason was completely assblasted by all of this and was coping, seething, and potentially even dilating for days on Twitter, saying that he was getting doxxed and harassed over this and that they needed to take more responsibility. Apparently, it all just stopped after Toby himself said there was no affiliation (I doubt there was any in the first place but whatever). GTLive ended up fixing the title, linking the game, etc. and Jason was happy with that. If I missed anything important someone else can chime in.

I had no idea it sold that poorly. I really enjoyed the campaign, I never played multiplayer because I am terrible at rts. Did people hate it that much at release or what?
It debatably fucked up the "story" and characters for a lot of people allgedly but I'm not that big of a fan so I'm not sure entirely there besides half remembered heresay. What I DO remember is it was half game balance/online functionality that made the "Scene" especially in south korea go right the fuck back to playing SC1 and what really boiled everyone's piss was more blizz TOS shit where any mod or alteration or new game mode you made for starcraft 2 (As starcraft 1 had a TON of custom game modes and mods that helped it's popularity) was now blizz's whole cloth property as this was them freshly coming off of their asshole being ripped asunder with the agony over losing DOTA to valve as it started life as a warcraft mod then became it's own thing.

So they threw the baby out with the bathwater and decided to overreach with more anti-consumer shit as became their trend instead of being more proactive and reaching out to popular mod makers and saying "Hey want a job?" (y'know like FUCKING VALVE DID) and they rightfully suffered for it. People were very very pissed but thanks to the great memory hole and the fast pace of things to be upset about it fell out of the cycle or awareness after about two years but they never had SC2 truly bounce back since that release window.

It's also what keyed me in on Jason being a little snake because he would goddamn well KNOW this bozo shit was the first plane that hit the blizzard monolith and left it teetering and instead he pivoted to "M..muh horse..." to deflect on it's TRUE failing. Also a bad comparison in terms of profitability as this was in WoW's heyday era where everyone had 1.5 accounts on average and despite the dork game stigma it was seen as weird if you never even played a trial of it or something and it was an account wide item meaning you got it for all your stupid characters and cut out a chunk of the fast mount grind at the time. That and non-MOBA non-ASSFAGGOTS RTS games were on the decline in popularity and support.

It'd be like complaining in current popularity terms that a fortnite skin outsold a point and click adventure game. Yeah no fucking shit you made more money with something sold in a game that every child on earth with at least one parent's credit card is playing it VS the latter being a ever growing niche property due to a changing landscape.

Edit: Oh I forgot to mention that they royally pissed off their slavish korean audience too. I'm only kinda surface level knowledgable of it at best so tragically I have to do the sneedful and link a reddit thread. Apparently they tried REALLY HARD to get interventionist ala nintendo did with the smelly unwashed favorite's game of Smash bros but with the korean SC:Broodwar scene and then tried to basically elbow them out and go "But SC2 tho" with little incentive, no carrot all stick as it were as well.

Here's a full screenshot from Jason's linkedin experience page (it's not in the OP). He allegedly automated some stuff and later on added "engineer" to his job title. And this is how he got credited while working in blizzard: https://www.mobygames.com/person/103317/jason-t-hall/credits/
Worth noting he was first credited when he was ~7 years old so his claims about his dev experience are kinda funny.
