I can't really speak for Marxism because I have never been really left wing, but I think when people say they like national socialism what they (usually) really mean is they want a revanchist strongman dictator to swiftly and uncompromisingly fix everything. The modern world and its political discourse, like it or not, actually defines itself in relation to its opposition to Hitler and 'the authoritarian personality'. So if you come to find that you actually really hate the modern world then a lot of peoples first place to look for alternatives is naturally Hitler, I don't think it is more complex than this really.
