Russian Special Military Operation in the Ukraine - Mark IV: The Partitioning of Discussion

What do you expect we do? Steamroll everything west of Dnepr, turn it to rubble, kill every single human between Dnepr and Carpathian mountains? What it will achieve other than makes Russia and Russian look like a bunch of savages? USA went gung ho into their "peace keeping" operations and what did it do? Big whoop of fucking nothing
Doing this to foreign mercs is a good start.

There are no good options for Russia but Russian can at least ensure there are no good options for the US/NATO either.

I've already listed a few options that are both strategically sound and keep the conflict contained to Ukraine while also displaying strength and a willingness to escalate. I definitely like the suggestion that @Feline Supremacist made. All Russia needs to do is not look weak and the threat of continued escalation by NATO is at least postponed. Otherwise Russia is gonna have to start dealing with American missiles launched at their big cities. I doubt Putin is just going to sit around watching critical infrastructure be bombed. It's bad for all of us if it gets to that point because it almost certainly means nukes. It's all about what NATO thinks Putin will do, and right now, they think he'll do nothing. That perception needs to get changed. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2024/08/24/putin-red-lines-war-ukraine/

I believe it because this is typical schoolyard bully behavior from NATO, and human psychology applies both at the small scale and the large scale. What would Ukraine and NATO gain out of a strong response from Russia? What are they gonna do? Sanction them? They're already sanctioned. Condemn them? They're already orks. More military aid? As if that wasn't going to happen anyway. Are they gonna declare Article 5 because a bunch of mercenaries invading Russia got killed, or that a military target inside Ukraine got bombed? No they're not.

If Putin continues to be a pussy, eventually he'll have no choice but to launch the nukes. NATO doesn't think he'll do it because all of his other threats were impotent and hollow. So next step for NATO's constant escalation is blatantly setting up long rang missiles and possibly even tactical nukes to launch into Russia. If you think "strong response" means "launch the nukes" then you're retarded.
If Putin went full Mongol on the Hohols it would likely destroy BRICS, at least the non Chinese part of it. The whole reason he's still been prepared to offer deals is due to pressure from the global south. He can now, rightly, point to Ukraine as a bad faith actor, on the one hand that they pinky swear they want to come to terms with the Russians in talks with China and India while at precisely the same time planning a ground invasion into Russian territory to capture a nuclear power plant. Non western nations already viewed Ukraine with a good deal of suspicion, as American lapdogs with their insane '10 point peace plan' that calls for the effective break up of Russia as a pre-condition to talk terms, unreasonable and crazy, now they're viewed as liars as well. However if Putin started bombing population centres, or worse attacked NATO countries that goodwill would evaporate instantly.

Instead Russia will do exactly as it promised previously when it's red lines were crossed, it will target NATO outside of Europe using proxies and allies.

I never suggested tard rage terror bombing Kiev into a crater, bro. That would be dumb in every regard.

More dead white people
Kiev is an important historical city for Ukrainians and Russians alike; its power plants, water supply, transport and sewage system are not.

I mean, what did the US do to Baghdad, city that has been central to the Fertile Crescent region since the eight century? Subjected it to "Shock and Awe" and targeted its electrical grid as well as its urban water supply system which, in a desert where temperatures can reach 111F, is criminal, barbaric behavior.

Putin is Russian; he's not an American thug. He wants Zelensky and his masters heads, not the heads of ordinary Ukrainians.

Drone Crashes Into 38-Storey Volga Sky Residential Complex In Russia's Saratov

Like the Russian excuses for hitting civilian buildings ... it missed the intended target (or comms were jammed and was flying blindly)
Looks pretty commercial, or high end residential. Maybe it was targeting a high profile individual

With what? That airport is 500 miles from the front.
Even shahed drones have a range further than that (620 miles). Kinzhals have a range of at least 920 miles depending on the aircraft they're launched from. Russia has hit Kiev more than 30 times over the course of the war, mostly with slower shaheds. If Russia launched kinzhals at Ivano-Frankivsk International Airport, they'd be impacting in five minutes. Would be worth it if they could get confirmation that the F-16s are still stationed there.

The massive attack on Ukraine today pleases me.

Also how retarded do you have to be to expect Russia/Putin to escalate at a time when the world is fed up with this hohol nonsense? We're from "until the Endsieg" to "whatever I don't have it easy either" in the general public of most supportive countries. Countries that never were supportive in the first place probably don't even talk about it differently than any other local war on the other side of the world.

And at that moment you go "WAAAGH! Let's show em what we Orcs got!"

Get real.

Its lights out all over the Ukraine. Strikes are still ongoing btw.

Explosions are thundering again in the Kiev region. Local resources are publishing new footage of the impact on the dam of the Kyiv hydroelectric power station, the fire is still not extinguished.
Emergency power outages continue across Ukraine following the morning retaliatory strikes.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov tells reporters that the "topic of negotiations with Ukraine has pretty much lost its relevance".
Have Russia said anything like this recently? This is a quote from today after the bombing. Previously I've always seen quotes that were more open ended like if Ukraine are willing to compromise on territory and stop the NATO faggotry there may be possibilities to end the war, whether true or not there was always an "out". Now it seems like it's off the table, total UKR death, as an expensive lesson for Kursk.

Western Europe/America don't have a surrender button. They're ruled by a unique kind of scum that have zero feelings for the people they rule. If 200 million of their subjects die in a war, they wouldn't lose a single night of sleep over it.

Ukrainians are learning this the hard way.
This really is central to how things have unfolded. For all the back and forth here about whether Russia should or should not "retaliate", Putin has imo been subject to one clear mistake: He presumed rational self-interest on the part of Ukraine. Hence things like the initial blitz shock strike at Kiev, hence its continued forbearance about striking infrastructure (well, continued up until @Feline Supremacist 's report above), and so on. All of which fails when your counterpart is not behaving in their own self-interest but that of another's.
