I dunno the details, but she is one of the pre-KK women writers that can be considered competent. Yes yes, real fans don't like her too much, but compared to Disney Wars, she might as well be Stephen King.

The gulf between her and someone like Jan Duursema or A.C. Crispin is still colossal though. A.C. Crispin is actually just a good writer period so good I didn't realize she was a woman when I read the Solo Trilogy as a kid lmao, she shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Traviss.

Now, granted, she's a more skilled writer than Leslye Headland, but I wouldn't call her a good writer unless she has someone to reign her Mando autism, Jedi bashing in.

Looking at the modern-day SW narrative pushed by Disney, they've basically canonized Karen Traviss' views on the Jedi. The Acolyte pretty much proves that the Republic Commando and Legacy of the Force books were right about the Jedi Order. Combine that with the fanboyism towards the Mandalorians, since now, they're the go-to good guys in the post-ROTJ world, given that the New Republic's about as useful as wet toilet paper, and Luke's Jedi are doomed to be wiped out before the Sequels. So yes, it looks like Karen Traviss got what she wanted from the new canon after all.

So no shit, there'd be some praise for her now, as a way to say ''hey, you chuds, you hate that we trashed the Jedi in the Acolyte, even one of the famous EU writers before the retcon saw things the way we did.''

It's likely the same reason the Prequels got looked at again; when faced with a far shittier iteration of something, you look back at some of the stuff you used to dislike or find silly and realize that in retrospect it could've always been worse. Her books are bad, but there's still aspects that you can enjoy, and her first books aren't as bad as the latter were.

There's also the "uh ackshually I'm not sexist" angle to think about.

The player character is a scrawny woman who can punch out everyone. A cantina that can't unload LODs so you fall through the floor. There's no dialogue options. And if you thought Starfield's load screens were bad, you'll hate Outlaws. Even high end systems are getting over a minute load times. Here is more 100% canon information.

Tarkin was having a gay affair with stormtrooper TK-421 (i.e. one of the troopers killed in A New Hope who had their armor stolen as a disguise)

Tarkin explicitly wanted to bring him as arm candy back to meet the emperor and be housed in a penthouse where TK-421 could peg Tarkin whenever he desired. Tarkin wanted to blow up yavin specifically because of his death and the subsequent lack of pegging he received.

He also liked to fard and/or shidd in his armor and luke specifically noted this while wearing it.

My favorite part about this romance is the fact that it wasn’t just any storm trooper. Tarken was getting pegged by TK-421. The guy he specifically sent in to scan the dangerous, anomalous space freighter with no life signs that they picked up in the debris of a dead world.
