In France we have the CNC (Centre National de la Cinematographie) which is part of the Ministry of Culture, they fund a lot of projects, mostly leftist shit. There are indie movies funded by the CNC that maybe 5 people will get to see in some theater in Paris. A few years ago they started to give grants to french game studios but in order to receive the money, you have a set of guidelines, it's mostly the typical [current year] crap, a female protagonist, not portrayed as less than a man, diversity, etc.

I think it's more along the lines of what Uwe Boll does with movies: makes bad movies that are funded by government culture agencies and such.

Yes, it's the same basic concept. A friend of mine who is an artist (real artist not tumblr artist) and wants to break into the indie games scene as a designer has told me today how Germany has a fund specifically for games since a couple of years and this fund partially paid for Dustborn, too, even if the devs and the studio are norwegians. Seems to be an EU-wide collaborative effort.

I think he got way more government funding for his movies (I think each movie got some funding in the millions) than Dustborn did from Norway and the EU. I wouldn't know where to find the stats for his movies as far as funding goes so I guess I have to say "trust me, bro" on this one lol.

He stated how he never paid out of pocket for producing any of his films and i believe him, the Deutscher Filmförderfond has deep pockets thanks to being completely tax payer funded.
