He's not bad. Not really my cup of tea, but if you like zombies you'll probably enjoy his books. And I mean, unlike Fatrick he's built a career on writing books that people actually want to read. Rick only got published because Tor and Angry Robot used to give out contracts to people based on their p[olitics. Tor was especially notorious for this, until their corporate overloards told them that playtime was over and they needed to stop putting out books that lose money. Hence why Rick hasn't put a book in four years has gotten no interest in his Christmas Carol fanfic.

I think it's both. His mom coddled, sheltered, and fed his ego until its size was only eclipsed by his waistline. Rick himself is naturally a belligerent, low-IQ pig. When coddled by Mama Raven, both factors combined to form the lolcow we know and love to mock.
