As someone that reads women's fiction and romance as well as women's romcom, I can say with some degree of confidence that the women in charge of today's girlboss are the ones that can't rationalize it.The new movie completely abandons that POV because (most) women can't rationalize it.
The hero's girlfriend or wife knowing his true identity is a form of female power fantasy, one that you see in romance all the time. She has power over the guy with super powers, because he loves her and can't live without her. Just like how all the virgins in romance novels cause die-hard billionaire playboys to give up their promiscuous lifestyle and devote themselves - and their bank account, of course - to her. You have power over the most powerful man in town - to a woman, this is the ultimate end game of their wildest romantic fantasies.
When you emasculate powerful men in favor of psychotic man-like girlbosses, many women tune out because that's not what they want. They don't want to replace powerful men in their favorite entertainments. Those powerful men are the draw. The power the love interests have over these men - THAT is the whole point, and the present girlboss trend completely overlooks that.
