How did all of you niggers forget about PRISM?

PRISM only covers messages exchanged over the internet. For other communication methods, there are other dragnets:

  • XKeyscore is a search engine that allows NSA analysts to dig through the massive pools of data gathered by PRISM and its counterparts. According to Snowden, XKeyscore users can tag individuals and follow their trails through the obtained communications.
  • Tempora is an electronic surveillance program operated by the U.K.’s GCHQ that extracts data from fiber optic cables. Proving that Five Eyes is a two-way street, NSA analysts reportedly worked with data from Tempora.
  • MUSCULAR is a joint NSA-GCHQ program that allegedly collects twice as much data per day as PRISM. Unlike PRISM, MUSCULAR is pure hacking, requiring no collaboration from the communications company.
  • Project 6 is a collaboration between the CIA and German intelligence to build a database of information on suspected terrorists. It’s highly likely that the CIA gathered and stored data on innocent German citizensthrough Project 6.
  • Lustre is a similar collaboration between French intelligence, the NSA and GCHQ.
  • Stateroom is a signals intelligence clearinghouse for all the Five Eyes nations to intercept and process telecommunications. It uses data gathered by the ECHELON satellite network.

Anyone know if Apple ever made a numpadless version of the A1048 keyboard?
Pretty sure they didn't. They did have a navless keyboard a few years earlier, the unhelpfully named Apple USB Keyboard. It came with the iMac. Imo that's actually a better layout than numpadless, it's equally big but num-lock actually has a use, you use it to switch the numpad between acting like a nav and acting like a numpad. You just have to develop the muscle memory to begin and end each number sequence entered with the num lock, which shouldn't take very long.

Best layout is of course 65% (or 75% if you have software that actually uses the function keys), because you can then just put a separate numpad to the left of the keyboard, which is a way better place to have it than on the right. Lets you enter numbers without taking your hand off the mouse, which is great in spreadsheets and things like CAD.

Thanks, I was just wondering because those particular ones are pleasing to my eyes.

They're only pretty while they're brand new. The transparent case unfortunately means they quickly become very gross indeed.

That is very true. I do like the font they used, the curvature in the arrangement, and the kinda minimalism in the design. I'm not a fan of Apple products in general, but I do like at least some of their products.

I use my left hand for the mouse. I am not left-handed and my right hand was not lost in some horrible manufacturing accident - it’s fully functional.

I almost swallowed a plum pit when I saw that and, even now, I am filled with sadness, disappointment, confusion, and BLINDING HATRED AND RAGE!!! 😡

That's OK.

I think I still have an old G4 Power Mac at my parents'... I had Linux running on it, but I think it broke somehow. It was a nice case, I liked it. I also liked OS9.2 in terms of how it looked at least, never really had any software for it and didn't do anything with it.
It'd be fun to use it for oldschool music production, early 2000s style.

Okay, you have redeemed yourself with that new information. I searched for something special and found this gift for you - it’s Super Steve Jobs

I don't want much in life, my last phone was a 13 mini. Current phone pixel lol rubbish.

I want a 13 mini size phone.
I don't want to pay subscriptions or have drama just to store audio books on my phone for while I'm working.
I like disabling stuff I don't use.
Can I do that with whatever apples ai and voice thing is?
Is there a later iPhone in the size I want?
Can I just transfer stuff to my phone and listen to it yet or will I still be going via some app like mega?

Recently got an M4 iPad Pro 13” 1TB to replace my (now my sister’s) old pen display, a Huion Kamvas Pro 16” 1440p. It plus Apple Pencil Pro + Case + Screen protector was around $2100 with taxes.

The Zugu case I got is sturdy enough to take the place of the laptop bag I carried the Huion around with, so everything fits in a single backpack pocket along with a work Macbook.

The ergonomics of actually using the thing to draw are better than the Huion. It’s nice to not need a main machine in order to draw, and touch controls in the GUI or on the Apple Pencil are better than the buttons on the Kamvas or its stylus for me. Plus I don’t have to deal with Huion’s software which would fucked up the config on all the buttons from time to time when plugging into different machines. The Apple Pencil was a little too thin for my giant mighty fists, but I got a rubber grip for it like the ones you’d get in school. I also got a full silicone sleeve for it, both interfere with the slot in the case for the magnetic charging; the grip is far easier than the sleeve to take on and off so that’s what I use.

The display is pretty good, usual Apple performance. Wide-gamut.com shows more apparent difference between sRGB and Display P3 than an M1 Macbook in SDR. The difference is less-so with newer, production-oriented displays like the ASUS PA278CGV and my Dell U4025QW, which are both IPS LCD as opposed to the iPad’s OLED. I don’t do a whole lot of work in wide gamuts since I’m not a photographer. Monitor color is an autism that eludes even me. HDR performance is above average to my eyes, especially for a tablet. Blacks are black—same as my iPhone, really.

My only complaints are software-based, and mostly centered around Adobe’s iPadOS ports. But everyone knows about that. Tailor-made iPad apps from other developers have enough functionality for me. ProCreate can save to .psd anyway and transferring those to a desktop for real Photoshop isn’t as annoying as it use to be. I know that for a lot of media workflows it can be pretty inflexible. Hopefully iPadOS 18 allows devs to take advantage of the M4 chip, hopefully…

11 slobbers/13 mutts i guess idk

I always wait to install iOS updates just in case there’s a snafu that needs to be worked out.
It should be obvious, I had a friend who was a complete dipshit with tech and his brother who constantly fucked with him told him to update his Mac stuff super early in an iOS update like a dev/beta user or something and he bitched for months about nothing working. This guy was king of the Mac vs PC arguments and thought apple just worked perfectly always. But he went from installing shit at the last minute to bring a beta and almost pulled a Nasim. It was hilarious to us.

Or if it turns out there's a planned obsolescence by older phones struggling to run the new OS.

Honestly I wish there were better alternatives to Android and iOS, like a proper Linux phone or blackberry necromancy or something
