I never said the preexisting code wasn't spaghetti, but its had 10 less years of additions, additions which bloat the size of the codebase and are likely not much better quality than the current code. The code has swapped hands so much, and projects like /tg/ have how many contributors coming and going? That's a lot of people with different ideas. It's a given when this happens. At least the old code is a more manageable pile.
I've been making contributions for multiple stations, and it's not necessarily true.
I checked /tg/ and it has some of the same schizo folder structuring as the old code, but even worse, as if they haven't made any concerted effort to sweep it up in the past 10 years. They can't be blamed as said before. But typescript, that's pretty cringe bro. I think that's enough reason to not fork /tg/.
Not tg, but there are plenty like Hippie or Merchant that is still ahead, without having the tg faggotry.
I'll look into whatever this is. It sounds worth adding if its that complex. Other systems don't sound very bad.

I use VScode.... Just not for ss13.

And for me refactoring and working with such an old base is really tedious and I'd rather not.
Intents, not having typescript it seems is a noticeable improvement. But the old code is still so much smaller and easier to read.
Implementing older code is a pain. I'm not gonna go through 400 items just so that I can implement a sleepypen.
 
Also, @geckogoy, I'm thinking of adding gas mixtures and more chemistry reactions, maybe more engineering constructs. Not many specific ideas yet, I'm just wondering if the framework for gas mixtures like freon exists in this revision and if there's any guidelines for adding content.
There is a gas mixture system I could not tell you how similar it is to what you are expecting

Guidelines are that I advise you to run ideas past me first as I have a certain feel I am going for. Some things are no problem, like mech direction walking is probably going to go in I just want to make some changes first, minor stuff like 'please let alt-click pull out of boxes' tends to go in right away, that sort of thing (that may get looked at a bit closer to match what other places are doing better). Big changes like exactly how wizard mode will look when it returns are in more danger of actually not getting in. Freon sounds potentially cool although I'd personally feel the need to do it a bit more physics based than usual (see the TEG circulator modules)

Also apologies to the hippie station fans but I am not going in that direction. I would probably lend aid to your efforts but its not for me

You know we have those, right? Action icons are this really old feature that's practically omni-present in the game at this point.
They just aren't used for OOC shit like on TG and what have you. IC things like boots, helmets, goggles, spells, etc - all use this system. You just haven't looked deep enough into code yet I guess.
edit containing an ⚠️OPINION⚠️: I dislike OOC action icons because they're taking up an already limited space on your game window; while having IC icons do that is justified and cool (those are used for in-game mechanics and interactions, after all), OOC tabs and chat already have their own half of the screen and should simply stay there (use Memories to look your antag memories up, use a button in the chat to vote, etc).
If you're really dead set to add moar icons, please create them for various items to actually improve gayming experience and not OOC verbs to waste screen space.

There is a gas mixture system I could not tell you how similar it is to what you are expecting
I mean like if multiple gasses are of a specific ratio in an atmos system (33% co2, 67% plasma) and at the right pressure and temperature conditions, they will form into a new gas (freon). This could happen outside a pipe system and accidentally, like a janny mixing ammonia and bleach. It would add things for atmos engineers to do, make old atmos more useful, and more antag options.

I'm thinking some sort of manually controlled vent/scrubber, maybe combined and toggleable, that can be constructed. There seems to be no way to do this without hooking shit up to the IOT botnet known as air alarms. The only use I could think of it so far is gas chambers for liggers though.

The engine vacuum radiators don't seem to really follow the rules of physics, but I'm thinking freon would just be a more efficient coolant. Maybe it can operate at lower temperatures in the radiators increasing the temperature difference for the generators. But something would have to be done about the generators just shitting themselves if generating too much power.

That's what i thought they were. Maybe wizman could have a spellbook icon, possibly attached to an item he has equipped, to open a menu and select spells. That would somewhat fit with what they're already used for. I agree they shouldn't be used as some generic easy to add UI element.

nah the circulators not the radiators (the radiators still need a rewrite)

Maybe wizman could have a spellbook icon, possibly attached to an item he has equipped, to open a menu and select spells
For any spells a mob "learns" a scroll icon does currently spawn up in one of the top corners of the screen (can't remember which sorry) with behaviour similar to what you're describing here, so to a degree the framework for that is already in place

Hippie is running heavily modified monkecode, and planning on stripping out the muddy goon-style sprites for sharper older 2020 era tg stuff.
Mainline monke unfortunately yes is a product of the modernity of spacestation 13, there is no server left (with pop) other than rivierra where you don't have to worry about stepping on the toes of a softbodied redditor.
So I just realized that SS14 has a playtest available. I've never played SS13 so I was interested in playing SS14 because BYOND is unusable to me so the game in a new/different engine was appealing. Do you guys ever play on SS14 playtest or are you SS13chads only?

SS14 has some real promise to it and is very performant. Unfortunately it lacks the entirety of surgery and therefore cybernetics etc. its main coders are absolutely notorious troon gooners with abhorrent fetishes they wave around and they slather everything they can with trannyshit including the launcher and loading screen. They also tried to install a puppet admin on a major server on threat of delisting because the host privately made fun of one of them.
If you want SS14 wait for "space station multiverse" on steam which is run by people who are decidedly less deranged.

I tried it once, didn't like it as much for subtle reasons. I think most people in the thread here are generally not interested in SS14 due to the tranny coders and their general retarded antics. I would personally recommend giving the og a shot even though byond sucks.

Surgery has been "being written" for over a year by the boyfriend of the zoophile and target of the SSMV lolsuit. He is literally unemployed now (and unemployable for the forseeable future: bing image search "Jesse Rougeau"), but barely active on GitHub. No one else is allowed to work on surgery in the mean time despite the troon making no progress for over a year. They ground their whole project to a halt for this loser just because he's part of the polycule. What the fuck is he even spending his time on?

In the mean time there's about 5 or 6 different Russian implementations of "surgery" ranging from bad to more than acceptable. None of them can be upstreamed because this troon has infinite time to work on it and lock it down because he's fucking some of the other ones.

blepstation is the only one that bothered to advertise unfortunately but there is nyano, russian server etc etc and potentially a future kiwistation.

Its actually really funny to see them continue to procrastinate on surgery longer and longer despite the fact that the longer they wait to implement limb damage/dismemberment and surgery, the more herculean the task of modifying everything to work around it will be, surgery should have been a core system being worked on when SS14 was still just a prototype of people running around shooting eachother with the piano being dragged along by the clown.
 
Updates - Nuke
  • the bomb now defaults to being deployable, you dont need to right click and 'make deployable' anymore
  • operatives upped to 1 per 5 crew instead of 1 per 6
  • saw an ERT guy with "name (as originalname)", disturbing amount of antagonist system re-organizing finally should fully address this without making nuke take forever to start (this should finally be fully addressed)
    • original issue was nuke was taking forever to start while waiting for the ops to pick their names one by one, so the name picker was spawned off, but then people's IDs were being created before they picked their name
  • nuke win conditions re-worked to in theory actually work (works when I tried it)
  • nuke cinematic re-worked to in theory actually work (works on my computer)
  • nuke timer was running at half time, so 60s takes 120s, fixed. however minimum nuke time is now 120s to give the crew a little bit of time to try to move the nuke into space still
  • guns default to burst fire mode now (cooler sounding)

SS14 update: The Game Director of Delta-V (The Wizard's Den approved side of the Nyanotrasen split, notably not containing and being unable to retain any programmers to this day) says LGBTP rights and says that removing people's ability to roleplay children is harmful to the queer community.

  • merged mech direction locking (I have decided its fine as it was) (@MAAAD)
  • C4 should now blow holes in unreinforced walls properly instead of leaving girders (@HahaYes)
  • chief engineer rig can now store power cells and sheets in suit storage, making it much more useful for engineering (@HahaYes)
  • you can now cauterize bleeding wounds with a welder, however it will deal burn damage (@HahaYes)
  • should have actually fixed traitors escaping on escape pods this time (one of the issues is the pod flight time is semi-random, so if you were still in flight when the round ended that would fail you (now they always arrive before the escape shuttle), the other is I forgot to fix the correct objective the first time)
  • you can no longer do surgery without anesthetics, patient will flinch and hurt themselves, failing the surgery step (@HahaYes)
Xenos:
  • Now all have nightvision (this was a pretty major rewrite to turn them into simple mobs instead of a subtype of humans)
  • Can now attack and force doors (except larva)
