I think it definitely needs work to fit in, the shading isn't right its out of place

Its hard to be specific, hopefully you can see what I mean. Maybe after sleeping on it more I could also be more specific

edit: might also be easier to hardcode the color, can provide technical support on that if needed to prevent the colors being messed with by the species datum

Wizard's Den has a new project manager. He is a "plural system" who consists of a cartoon snake and a cartoon lizard. The snake goes by it / its pronouns and the lizard is genderfluid whose pronouns change at any time. You have to play pretend with him or you get banned for being a queerphobic nazi.

Death squad visuals really suck right now so I don't feel bad combining them with the ERT, like their rig is extremely lame looking. Pulse rifles will probably become ERT gear at some point. I'm pondering re-coloring the syndicate rig to the black/white ntfleet color scheme since its pretty sick looking and giving that to the ERT instead. I also may just make variatiosns on the current medical rig since thats already almost the right colors. In any case they are really gay looking right now they look like power rangers. They also need a new name. Lastly they will be coming from the NT warship in system (intrepid) instead of centcomm (this is mainly just a lore distinction for now plus blocking off their area from the rest of central). This is part of my very long term plans.

You will still get non lethal help from the response team but its going to be an armed boarding party that may or may not include engineers and/or medics depending on what NT thinks the problem is (so in reality just the team deciding which gear to pick on their own).


This is all part of my long-schemed and obviously superior solution to server load balancing for if we seriously grow and need a second server (which is starting to seem possible in the 6-12 month range). The servers would actually be meaningfully different, like Zeta might be one and the warship another. The load balancing theory is that some people would actually prefer the gameplay of one over the other rather than everyone wanting to log into the most populated of the 2-3 identical servers. These would all lore-wise be in the same solar system and there would be an ability to fly between them for if you wanted to play with a particular person. You could also have inter-station interactions either through the economy system or getting a response team from the warship or the other station or whatever to help you.

This may seem optimistic but in theory is doable. A lot of time is being taken up fixing bugs and also I am just being kindof lazy, but that situation is not a bottomless well of problems and is starting to clear up. It should also be technically possible because you can swap a client to a different server by sending it the server URL, and you can transmit metadata so it should be possible to encode their inventory and mob and re-generate their characters and get the clients connected by the time they dock (1 minute flight time or something). It would be a lot of work and probably for a while various items would just not be properly supported for transferring (I.E. 'wtf all my papers turned blank' or whatever), but I am quite sure its possible on the technical level. If we ever by the grace of God get that far that would be really cool in my opinion.

  • weeds respect airflow rules now instead of spreading freely under windows/closed doors
    • its inconsistent that larva can squeeze through airtight doors but i shall leave it as is for now
  • xenos are now grabbable (and can be choke slammed into/through windows, onto tables, and stuff)
  • attacks against xenos work more reliably in general, can now be punched
  • xenos are now stunnable if over 400 stun damage builts up
    • batons do 100
    • xenos regenerate stun damage pretty fast
    • previously stun damage was being applied as regular damage which was often instantly lethal
  • xenos should now get electrocuted by electrified grilles and doors
  • xenos can now push objects/mobs
  • attacking resin now has attack animation/delay
  • xenos can now slash cameras
  • any helmets that have HEADCOVERSMOUTH flag will kill facehuggers instead of letting them attach
    • space helmets, rig helmets, and now riot helmets (they did not have this flag before but do now)
  • xenos are followable for ghosts again
  • xenos can now unbuckle mobs from resin nests
  • xenos can now force firelocks
  • facehuggers should no longer automatically re-impregnate
    • can still manually re-hugger people if you want the stun or whatever, they just dont suicide into an already infected mob automatically
  • xenos now burn to death in fires
  • resin now properly updates the air system when destroyed, so fires can burn xenos to death better
  • took a crack at fixing xenos being able to understand eachother, unsure how to test that in single player. seems like they may have been speaking a null language by default so i improved get_default_language to pick the first language if all else fails which for xenos is the xenos spoken language
  • xenos can throw facehuggers to attach them again (someone added a note that they had disabled this, CRINGE)

There is a bit of general infrastructure improvement here, as some of this is doing work on attack_generic on various objects so certain other mobs also benefit to a degree

What are those xeno UI icons in the top right corner for anyway?..
they are environmental warnings, was not noted above but fire now sets the fire one for xenos

also i think all your xeno related bug reports (and all the others I noted down) are addressed now

Unfortunately, I was one second too late on surviving the suffocating rope of vacuum. Space asphyxiation must be responsible for at least half of my deaths, all the more reason to keep the gimp mask on.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the plasma : oxygen ration isn't 1:2. More experimentation has to be done.

THE ORIGINAL LEAK, PRE TG version was on google hosted SVN (google.code or whatever it was called) iirc, lost to time and all, but might be wrong.
Everything past that (post-2010) was on a closed repo and considering how some retards I knew were offering hundreds for another leak, that never happened.

Actually gives a good idea to poke around and check if they have old Donut Station builds for muh nostalgia.

I have multiple historical codebases archived, including OpenSS13, the very first "public" release of Gibbed r4407 (and some variations) and SVN/early Git versions of TGstation. But "official" sources also have it.

Goonstation r4407, or the originator of all other codebases. The revision I have is "flat", AKA slap all those fat fucking assets in the same folder without any subdirectories. Yes, BYOND development used to be even worse. This one has been "cleaned up".
Attached is a mystery ~2012 SVN pull of Goonstation which is close to r4407, using older format with more maps than the official release.
d2k5 2014 leak, including the basis code for a jukebox and music media server.

Goonstation 2020, the one officially released shortly after the code leak.
OpenSS13 for Byond 513, unverified, but i have other OpenSS13 versions. That "first" station served as the basis for the Derelict.

Nah if you need a background of mechs or lava in order to look cool then the design is kindof struggling

Also the rig ingame resembles the drawings/VG thing but iirc is noticeably worse looking (i recall the chestpiece/suit just looked like a suit shaped blob of grays and reds to me) so I will give you that at least

I guess my question is: would you be willing to bring death squad back if your points of concern get adressed? Because ERT and squaddies are really not the same (the former are there to help, the latter - to KILL AND DESTROY) and I don't think anything good will come out of supposedly helpful power rangers wielding pulse rifles that destroy station walls, doors, objects and what not. It's still nice to have such a "CONTRACTS TERMINATED, DELETE FUCKING EVERYTHING" option even if you weren't using it anyway.

Were they actually tested before though? Other than that backend rewrite to make them more ERT-esque (low priority really) and supposedly wierd sprites they should be fine as is.

The ERT is there to assist the stationeers in whatever trouble they might have (tackling Syndicate/alien threats, repairing giant hull breaches, quelling mutinies and restoring Chain of Command, etc). They are to work together with the crew and even though they answer directly to CentCom Intrepid Command, more often than not they are required to take direct orders from (acting) Captain in order to complete the task at hand.
The Death Squad is there to nuke the station and kill all witnesses, optionally after retrieving some sort of valuable asset. All crew members are KoS along with pretty much every other lifeform they stumble upon and they answer to CentCom only (Lore inconsistency I guess? I don't think Intrepid as an assisting warship is authorised to obliterate NT research stations so the only place DS could've theoritcally come from is CC). They're only typically called in whenever the station is FUBAR and must be nuked at all costs.

Kind of? SS14's largest SS13 heritage staffwise is Citadel, which is explicitly a furry ERP server. Those do kind of dominate the high end of the BYOND server list, but it's much easier to find a non-furry server where you can say bad words. You don't even have to go to super obscure chud servers like this one, there's plenty among the medium pop servers that are "fine." Please do not let SS14 color your impression of Spaceman too much, it's truly exceptional and represents only the worst parts of the playerbase.

The closest SS14 gets to "fine" right now is Sector Crescent, which just via not having anti-speciesism rules has attracted many psychopathic trannies that have started attacking the host. On most SS14 servers not only can you not say nigger, not only can you not say ligger, but you get permabanned for e.g. calling a humanoid spider a "fly-eater." Sector Crescent has only backpedaled on this last one and it's now considered the nazi server. My favorite is the troon that joined the Discord, claimed 48 people said the host is a secret racist homophobic sexist transphobic furphobic nazi, refused to name any of them or provide receipts, and then said anyone asking for proof was harassing them.

If only you could also dismember benos properly, with chitinigger limbs flying everywhere... but that would take totally recoding them from simplemobs to full carbons, and you may as well just rebase to Colonial Marines at that point. I'm not so sure about xenos being too vulnerable to fire – they should be at least resistant, otherwise every xenos round ends with self-plasmaflooding and everyone dead, especially the crew.
Also, I wouldn't really hold out hope for inter-server data sharing, especially not with the horrible BYOND external call implementation. You'll definitely need an external library for that kind of thing, either TG's rust_g (it's a mystery Rust binary blob) or the previous Bay's netutils (not so mystery C blob). I haven't tested any changes 515 has made, but I can't imagine it being much better than the performance-chomping monster that it was previously.
