This is actually an interesting read, they're taking the cases he was citing (one of which involved a black guy who was called nigger by the cops) and throwing them back in his face.

On what basis is this affidavit exempt from disclosure? This seems like the very definition of a public record.
I mean. . .unless there's an ongoing investigation, that might be an exception. But is it an investigation into the swatters, or into Rick himself?
I'm not particularly inspired by the prose here, but the whole document is pretty much "nigga plz."

So, anyone more knowledgeable on the law than I am is free to correct me, but as a legal layman, this seems to be Patrick asking for money by alleging the cops didn't do their jobs, not for doing anything actually wrong, but for not giving him special treatment, and the cop response is "we have a requirement to follow existing procedures, and there is no such requirement to give anyone special treatment", with "by the way, we DID give him all the special treatment we could within the bounds of our duties" in their back pocket if this goes past summary dismissal. Is that an accurate summary?

1. We did nothing wrong.
2. In the event we did something wrong we had probable cause/exigent circumstances and so it was not illegal
3. In the event that we did not have above, this is not a settled issue, and therefore we have immunity.

I actually agree with this. Whoever called the cops to Pat's house is potentially still out there and giving them more information about police procedure in cases like this could help them abuse emergency calls more effectively. And in general, it's a good look for the cops to make an effort to protect Rick while he's actively suing them.

About the sealed documents: The Public needs to know, and has a right to know, yes, but not always the need to know right now. Holding back on this information for now is acceptable if circumstances call for it, but it is not acceptable if the city wants it to be permanent. Once the matter is settled the city needs to unseal/release the information.
I wonder if the FBI has put in a word to the city attorneys, given that this case involves Torswats and possibly other things the Jackboots are getting up to, and told them to keep certain secrets. We know the jackboots hate telling anyone anything. Lying, hiding or destroying evidence, they do it all.
