I'm not exactly a conservative. I'm an empiricist.
I believe in our 50-state system as the potential greatest avenue in history to achieve iterative improvement in government, but we have to use it correctly.
I'm glad a state (Oregon) did the experiment to see if legalizing drugs would actually help the problem of drug addiction. People had been hypothetically theorizing about it for ages. OK, put it to the test. Oh, it's a shameful failure and many people died? Well, pull the program and let's not do that again.
If the libs had been right about a bunch of the stuff they'd said, I'd be a liberal right now!
The liberals told me defunding the police would make our communities safer. Conservatives told me it would make them more dangerous. The laboratories of democracy that tried it recorded abysmal failures and quietly raised funding levels again. Experiment failed.
Liberals told me that providing more pre-K to lower class and minority kids would bring their test scores into line with the norm. Conservatives said children should stay with their parents and that this was a waste of money and an attempt to indoctrinate kids, not educate them. It turned out the biggest studies of pre-K show a distinct impact...in the wrong direction, with pre-K attenders showing worse performance than matched controls. Experiment failed (but Dems keep pushing universal pre-K!).
Liberals told me that gay marriage wasn't going to lead to anything else and that the "slippery slope" was a fallacy. They also said gay marriage would help gay people integrate into the larger culture and that they were just like us. Conservatives told me gay marriage would lead to polygamists and paraphilias being normalized. Now deliberate AIDS spreading is being decriminalized, trans "men are women, freedom is slavery" theory will become the law of the land wherever Dems are elected. Gay men still make up most AIDS cases and are still engaging in far more sex with far more partners than any other group out there. Experiment failed.
Liberals made dramatic, sweeping predictions about climate change having significant and easily observable impacts to daily life. Conservatives said it was either bogus or not caused by humans, and shouldn't be something you freak out over. Over and over, these predictions failed, and "carbon credits" proposed as a response have been a scam through and through. Climate models continuously overstate confidence levels and have little predictive value. Experiment failed.
Liberals said that covid vaccination would stop the spread of covid, and that it was imperative people lose their jobs over refusal to take the vaccine, and that they should be excluded from society since who would dare to not take a vaccine to help his fellow man? Conservatives called this an outrageous affront to personal freedom. It turned out the vaccine did nothing to stop you from spreading covid to anyone else once you had it, and barely impacted the rates of hospitalization and death after just a few months' time. Experiment failed.
Liberals said that if we opened our doors to the world, we could bring in incredible people to take jobs Americans were too prissy to take, and that we could revitalize the country with a liberal immigration policy. Conservatives said we'd see rising crime and homelessness, and that it would be harder for Americans to find the jobs they wanted, and that wages would be suppressed. Which of these theories turned out to be true? Again, experiment failed.
When your experiments fail over and over, especially when they fail to the shocking, unambiguous degree these proposals have, the obvious conclusion to any sane person is that the underlying theory linking these failed hypotheses is rotten.
I'd have been delighted for the liberal ideas to have been true. Wouldn't that have been cool? Invite immigrants and they all just Americanize and make our culture vibrant and cross-pollinated. Spend less taxes on cops and get safer communities. Put a little more money into early childhood education and erase achievement gaps, making a fairer world for all. End the war on drugs and watch as addiction numbers drop while you spend that enforcement money on something more productive.
If it had worked, it would have been incredible. Unlike a lot of people here, I'm not against giving chances even to off-the-wall sounding policy proposals, but I am against nationwide adoption of any policy that hasn't been empirically proven in a couple of states first. I would be fine with the US having a couple of smaller states given over to radical experiments in policy. Perhaps one or two implementing right-wing and/or libertarian policies, and one or two implementing left-wing and/or green policies. Most would fail, sure, but perhaps some would succeed, and the rest of the states would be insulated from the failures.
I'm a reluctant conservative, I suppose. I wanted the left's story to be true, even though it sounded too good (and was). I'm sure I'm not alone in that. Star Trek seemed pretty chill.

That's because Biden fell apart completely. You can't say he's "as sharp as a tack" when he doped up to the gills just to function. Debates don't do that much damage normally and sort of persuade independents a little bit.

Just as a reminder: Vance will obviously be a very active VP because the VP is not meant to be a drooling retard. It's not a well-defined job but it can be extremely useful in many cases. Obviously, you also have VPs like Cheney who act like presidents.

Universal pre-K is a jobs program in disguise. Anyone with a house-sized building can hire a bunch of uncredentialed moms, buy some books, and throw up a sign "free pre-K program!" in the front lawn. They basically get paid to do daycare at above-average rates directly from the state, politicians get to pretend they're spending money on education, and busy parents get free daycare for a year. It's an "everybody wins" scam funded by taxpayers who don't know enough about the scam to object to it.

The sheer number of morons on this website never fails to amaze me. Maybe you’re all so conservative because you’re all completely blind to things that are actually happening around you, thinking the world hasn’t changed since the Game Boy came out in 1989.
Voting is rigged, polls are fake, campaigning doesn’t matter, debates don’t matter, the media covers up everything, etc., etc. Various people have endlessly pointed out evidence contrary to those ideas and yet we still have people doubling down about how nothing matters and it’s all fixed. Well get this, there is fraud and fuckery but it doesn’t mean the whole system doesn’t matter at all.
It’s like you niggers would rather concede that the world is controlled by evil forces than admit that half of Americans really are legitimate Democrats. Maybe that’s what frightens you. You can’t handle living in a world where people disagree with you.

If he was doing this when she was at a position of strength it might have hurt Trump more but with how shit Harris been lately? I think it'll create a nagging doubt that she can't take him.

Oh yeah, I forgot one big thing, maybe the biggest issue that shifted my thinking away from liberal dogmas by watching the real result.
Conservative states banned abortions. Liberals told me there would be blood on their hands, thousands of women dying, state foster systems overrun with infants. Those laws have been going long enough for the babies to be here by now. The number of stories of woe we've heard are few and far between, and don't involve deaths or hospitals setting up septic abortion wards for all the illegal abortionist botch jobs or anything like that.
Liberals also told me ectopic pregnancies were universally fatal to both mother and child. Neither is true (and it's rarely fatal even to the mother, even in hellholes with hospital systems you'd run screaming from as a comfortable developed worlder).
We ran an experiment in the laboratories of democracy, and the most tragic, awful stories any journos can find...even though there's a whole cottage industry of trying to source exactly these stories...are things like "this person had to travel a little further to get a service" or "this person had a baby and now lives an impoverished life" or "this person had to wait a little longer for a D&C after presenting with a complication, but did get one after a few days of anxious waiting."
I was told there'd be women dying in the streets. Blood on your hands, you said. Thousands of women. Where are they? Once you've told me it'll be thousands of dead women, a few women being pissed off they can't get their D&C until the heartbeat actually stops a couple of days later is not "see, we were right," it's actually "we fucked up our predictions and are using women experiencing tragic losses to save face so it's less obvious to our supporters that we fucked up."

I wouldn't call that high standards I'd call it low standards. They want bleached-blond, caked in make-up (and probably some plastic surgery) early wall-hitters with fake boobs. They think Jenna Jameson is the pinnacle of beauty. The ultimate babe. They're the type of people who can't tell trannies from real women. (I mean the trannies that are really trying to pass, not random autistic men in dresses like Chris Chan.) I have high standards and that means youthful natural beauty, because she's taken care of herself and doesn't smoke, doesn't drink alcohol or least not a lot, doesn't take drugs, isn't a sun-worshipper trying their best to get skin cancer and make leather, isn't a greedy slob who gets fat and she has a sweet and caring personality. The personality can really show through on their face and make an already good-looking girl even better.
