Hasan is the exact same way. It's a common tactic among those I would consider to be arguing in "bad faith". You can't make compound arguments, accusations, or questions because they'll latch on to a tiny mistake and not address anything else. In Nick's case, he will internally latch on to that tiny mistake and say the claim/argument is false (because of the tiny mistake), leaving readers with the impression that he's denied the main point rather than some petty detail.

An example I saw on Xitter -
