Vegetarian or Vegan? - Which would you rather be?

I'm an omnivore like a normal person but man I am a whore for veggies. I will pick a vegetarian dish over a meat dish just to taste tasty veg.

Vegetarian is much better than vegan shit tho because I can taste the weird substitutes they use in vegan dishes.
 
I seriously considered being a vegetarian once since I like animals. But after a week-long visit to one of my vegetarian cousins who was absolutely MENTAL about not eating meat and lashed out at you if you so much as nibbled on a hotdog, I kept my meat and never looked back.
 
I've been a vegetarian for 5 years and the only thing I miss really is chicken. (I've never been much of a pork or beef eater.) I could easily do without eggs and products that use eggs, but goddamn I can never give up dairy. Like, I fucking love almond milk and can manage with that, but I've never been able to find a decent substitute for cheese.

Chao isn't bad, but fuck cheese substitute in general. I live with someone with a bad dairy allergy and I can't stand the smell of most fake cheese. Chao only comes in slices, but at least it makes a decent grilled "not cheese" sandwich. Thankfully my boyfriend doesn't remember what real dairy tastes like anymore so he can tolerate fake cheese, but I won't touch the stuff.
 
I've been vegetarian for 5 years and don't miss meat. I think I'd get sick trying to eat it again in all honesty.
There are tons of things that taste delicious that are vegetarian. I have found some really good veggie chicken nuggets, and a ground beef substitute to use for tacos and other things I did miss. In regards to eggs and dairy, I get my eggs from a farm up the road and dairy is all local and produced on small farms as well. Don't agree with the factory egg or dairy industry, so I'm thankful that I live somewhere with great agriculture. My friends and family all eat meat and I have no problem with it. I think vegans/vegetarians that attack people for eating meat are the reason so many people hate the idea. Informing and teaching people if they ask about your diet is much more effective. I'd never be able to be vegan though, mainly because it's extremely hard to find TRUE AND HONEST vegan options while eating out.

I don't mind talking about vegetarian/veganism if the topic comes up or people ask questions, but in any other context I have this feeling that anything I say is going to come off as evangelizing to most people.

"What did you have for lunch?" "A tofu dog." Sounds normal to me but they're going to hear "a tofu dog, carnie scum."

I just want to eat my spinach in peace. (:_(
 
Vegetarianism. I don't a eat a lot of meat as-is because I'm poor (rice and beans are delicious btw) but being a vegan is not only expensive (to get the protein you need), it restricts a lot of food that you'd expect (even things like gelatin), and there's so much in-fighting that you'll never live down your choices. For example, I can, in theory, replace my milk with soy milk, chicken with tofu, and cheese with shreds of plastic, but then I would have to get rid of my shoes, since they all have leather.

EDIT: Word filter got me..."tard cum" should be the liquid that comes out of cows and sold in one-gallon bottles at grocery stores.

I reckon I could go vegetarian if I had to. When I was an impoverished student, there would be entire weeks when I wouldn't have any meat - I practically lived off pasta. Vegan, though, just seems like an incredible ballache. I have a vegan friend, and to be fair she's not preachy about it at all, but Christ it's hard to find stuff she can eat.

I admire people for having principles, but I take the view that it's basically impossible to lead a completely ethical lifestyle these days. Our society's too complex.
 
I'm already an ethical vegan, but I was born to an omnivorous family.

That's the problem with being a vegetarian. Every judges you.. While assuming you are being judgmental.

And it is seen as being more of a 'woman thing', so that's great.

I don't bring up being vegetarian unless that is the last option. I do fine on side dishes and what not.
Or if I am going to a gathering where I know they will intentionally include meat in everything (my brother-in-law) I eat before hand.

Doesn't help that I live in Wisconsin, where eating meat is almost as important as drinking beer.
 
I'd rather be vegetarian since it pretty much means don't eat meat but everything else is alright.
 
I was raised a vegetarian, said fuck this at around 15 and I've been a lot healthier and happier since.
 
I love meat way too much to ever give it up, but I'd pick Vegetarian. I don't mind not eating meat some days, and there's more variety compared to Veganism. Plus most Vegans I meet are massive fags.
 
I'm a bit late, whoops. If I had to pick I guess I'd say vegan, probably because a lot of the people I know personally who are vegetarian are overweight, i'm guessing it's because they eat a lot of high-calorie but vegetarian-friendly foods like dairy products which probably helps them have protein in their life.

Of all the vegans I've known, I haven't yet met an overweight vegan person. Maybe that's just where I am, a lot of the vegans are either stick thin or average.

Plus a guilty pleasure thing that i keep on the DL is vegan snacks and foods and stuff.

Edit: Went vegetarian a year ago. My limbs haven't fallen off. Life is good.
