If you want to defoliate an area, that's why we invented agent orange. Chase soldiers out of a trench? Well, that's why the good lord gave us lung irritants. Thermite's meant to burn through metal at short distances, this looks impressive, but you'd think something like a Molotov would be more useful. If they wanted to brick some Russian's car or burn through a door lock, that's what thermite's for. But it makes for nice videos for redditors to circle jerk to, so there's that.

I'm surprised they're not salting the Earth by this point and to Hell with the farmers and people who live there. They'd rather the land be poisoned than let someone else have it. Even the people born and raised there. At least flooding the mine should (I hope) be reversible? I'm not a miner.
I think so, the Wehrmacht and SS had orders to carry out scorched earth as they retreated to the Dniper Ost Wall. The thing is Germans were clearly foreign invaders, the Ukraine would be literally destroying itself to spite Russia, to whom they are clearly related to (at the very least, they really are the same people). They're Nazis larpers so they are repeating everything their heroes did.
