Retconning Kat (Heart’s friend) as mixed race when she appeared white in her original design (Kat has curly hair here):

Steenz turned the whole comic into HoTC fanfiction. When the change was announced in 2020, most of the comments disapproved of the new art style:

As much as I loved the former, I dislike the new comic strip. Characters and their personalities and appearance were crafted over many years and became synonymous with the strip. Sadly, what used to be an enjoyable part of my day is now gone. So long, Heart. A real disappointment and shame.

I, too, was confused when I saw the new artwork for Heart of the City since Mark Tatulli’s name is on the strip. Please!!!! It’s no longer possible to even know who the characters are, since there is no resemblance at all to their former selves. It’s nice to hand over the reins to a new artist, but there is also a lot to be said for continuity.

Oh nonono, they didn't make them somehow MORE woke, they tried to "fix" them by just making them boring women-in-swimsuits that someone like Escher Girls would've complained about back in the day. Someone had posted them on KF and lamented how they were just boring/not very original despite no longer being SJW and someone else was like "I can't draw but this is what I'd change--" and went on about what design choices they'd make to the characters, and I wanted to find the post again so I could maybe take a crack at it. I just can't find the thread and figured someone in here probably saw it too.

What Andrews McMeel Syndicate did to the strip was disgraceful. Tatulli was ready to retire it and end it permanently. Tatulli’s comic was ruined by Steenz. AMS should have realized how stupid it was to have a CalArts artist take over an existing strip. Steenz should have created her own strip instead.

Tatulli gave a shout-out to Steenz when she took over the strip:

“It is my hope that Steenz will take ‘Heart’ to the next level,” Tatulli says, “and knowing her work, I believe she can.”

Is it weird that everytime some trans artist draws someone who look like later-years chris-chan colliding with a transgender rally (with no survivors) is almost always presumed to be trolling?
For starters, most trans artist do not like the reality so they draw this hyper-idealized drawing of something they wanted to be. Deviating from the template is extremely rare
