If they can't build a powerful fucking PC, brand new or second hand, for £1600, then they're fucking retarded, which they are.
£1600 to play TLoU us in upscaled 4k@60 or play 50 years' worth of games from every platform to have ever existed, with the option to do so for free, if you really want to.

The loss model has been deprecated for years now. Console makers might realize an initial loss vs capex for a new console launch but generally speaking they're going to be sold breakeven or even at profit within a year. Main reason being that attachment rate has been plummeting on consoles for years now - people just buy the console as a netflix machine and maybe also play some F2P garbage on it.

That's a major reason why they've outsourced most of the hardware design to AMD and also insisted on getting it as an SoC so they can produce it at the cheapest possible price.

After the prices were revealed, 'ゲーミングPC' was trending on twitter in Japan. This has already been happening since the pandemic when the entire country discovered PC gaming at the same time via anime girl streamers.

This was what I was thinking, it feels precarious when stood up without the stand, so I'd have assumed it's supposed to sit horizontally, but even then it's equally vulnerable to being tugged because of the shoddy design, so it's just a semi-required component being sold separately, at that point why not sell it without a controller.

Counting the $80 disc drive, PS5 Pro is still the most expensive by one dollar.

So even inflation-adjusted, it's a mid-gen refresh only marginally less expensive than the PS3, a console so expensive that - to this day - the launch price is the first thing anyone remembers about it.

He's doing a rather poor job of it at that. The best selling console in history, the height of Sony consoles, the PS2, was only the equivalent of $546 in 2024, how they hell can they justify $699 for something that is only a mid-stream upgrade?
