Keep in mind, the PS3 was like almost $900 in 2006 with inflation adjusted but at least it comes with a disk drive. And it could fucking stand on its own. Here, you dont even get that.

The price is way too inflated, I'm sure it costs a lot to make but if they can make money on the PS5 then £699 for a pro has at least £100 of pure profit. The disc drive is also way to fucking expensive compared to manufacturing costs. I understand inflation is partly to blame and that the pro will probably be a low volume product so the price might make sense for Sony but why should the customer give a fuck.

Being expensive is just a cost vs performance for me and the PS5 pro just doesn't seem to add much. At best you get better FPS and higher res and that's great but I just don't see it being that big of an improvement. It maybe makes sense if you're super into the PS ecosystem but I can't help think that any money spent on a modern console would objectively be better off spent on upgrading an already mid tier PC. In a world with no exclusives and/or easily emulated systems there's no reason not to go full PC. A £1000 can get you a lot of PC, especially if you can save some money on reusing some parts from an older system. You can save even more money on game sales and piracy/emulation.

PSSR is honestly the only thing I'm interested in. Games on console have dog shit image quality these days. Dynamic res drops to sub 720p constantly and FSR simply can't make that look good. The problem isn't even the console it's the shitty devs that can't optimise their games and PSSR can't fix their retardation.

He's doing a rather poor job of it at that. The best selling console in history, the height of Sony consoles, the PS2, was only the equivalent of $546 in 2024, how they hell can they justify $699 for something that is only a mid-stream upgrade?
That's not even a good comparison either, considering the price cuts. The cut PS2 slim was the equivalent of 300$ eventually. Just in time for the PS3 to get memed on.

And PS3 actually had more than 5 exclusives timed-exclusives by 4 years on the market.

PS3 when it came out was kind of crazy with the shit it could do, the first models could even play Super Audio CD of all things, and was the best blu ray player on the market you could buy at the time. PS5 Pro really has nothing like that, even if you do get a disc drive add-on, it's 4k blu ray playback is not great, and lacks support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

PS3 was widely overpriced on what public was willing to pay, but least they tried to add extra value to it.

You were even able to install Linux through OtherOS before Sony removed it because of "muh piracy"... which only ramped up efforts to crack the PS3 to run pirated games.

Not to mention that the US Air Force were able to make a cluster of them to build a super computer.

At that price it better be OLED by default.

I've read somewhere that the Switch 2 will launch with an IPS display and it would not surprise me since these are cheaper to produce than OLED and are more than adequate displays for handhelds. Nintendo has figured out that their costumers are more than willing to buy hardware refreshes so they will release an OLED model at a later time frame to get more sales.

Bringing this back to the topic; I've lost count of how many comments I've read on X of people saying that the price announcement of the PS5 Pro is the best excuse for them to save their money to buy a PC now or a Switch 2 when it launches.

It cannot be understated how much Sony is shooting themselves on the foot by keeping the prices of their hardware so high. Seeing their current 4-year-old hardware be priced as high or higher than when it launched is both unprecedented and absurd. Worse, the standard market practice when a better version of a current product is released it usually has the launch price of the older model and the older model gets a price cut. What Sony is doing is so backwards.

I cannot imagine developers being too happy either, there is zero incentive to make exclusive games for PlayStation when so many potential costumers are being priced out of the hardware.

If Nintendo manages to launch the Switch 2 at $399 they are going to have another winner in their hands and dominate 2 generations in a row, developers are going to move in droves to it and PlayStation as a brand is going to be over.

Here ya go:
"Oh, griffing gaming, been a while since I last saw him, lets see how he shits on this!"

*12 minutes of savage cocksucking.*
Wow, Griffin the new Snoy fanboy didn't call "fucking poor" those who won't buy the PS5 Pro? I guess he will probably keep that for his livestreams.
When did he become such a gigantic faggot? And what sort of quantum vision or drugs is he doing to notice such a "huge improvement" between standard and Pro?

My bad, I don't watch his content, so when I saw the title of the video I assumed he was going to critical of the Pro and its absurd price.

Ah yes, finally an option for the 1-2 people who have complained that the PS5 was too cheap, and had too low resolution and framerate in the PS4 games you can play on it.

And i mean its not that bad.
Sure, if you add a 2nd low quality TEMU-tier controller, online, the space-grade plastic stand and a disk drive, then you may be around a cool 1000$ or so before buying any games,
but :
2013' s hit game "The last of us" never had THIS crispy pixels. And dont get me started on Spiderman DEI edition or the new hit release Concord FAIRGAME$!

I also sure wonder if this will be scalped for Christmas and you then get ebay listings for 1000-2000 USD for this thing.

PS4 to PS5 Pro is the generational leap we should've had to begin with, so it was a chance to finally entice people who held out into going next-gen, but they blew it. All they needed was a reasonable price and a couple system sellers, but they just couldn't do it.

To be honest at first I thought he was doing a bit. But it's such a weak and tepid criticism followed by "whoooooa, look at the graaaaphics!" that I'm still wondering what reality does he live in.
