Sony hate thread

We won't see Playstation reaching the bottom yet until next year at the earliest, when the PS5 has to stack up against a pricier but far more performant 2025 Nintendo hybrid instead of the cheaper old-tech 2017 one. Expect the competition to be no longer bloody, but stomach-churningly gory this time.
The rumored "PS4-tier" tech of the next Nintendo console is a huge threat to Sony. Everything is already being put on the PS4. While we might not have another Crash of '83, the current and oncoming shocks to the market might dissuade a lot more developers from pushing graphics to the smallest marginal gains and instead opt to sell millions on the Nintendo console.
Plan A was that.

Plan B is looking at this year and noping the fuck out of doing that.
>Sony
>not charging headfirst into a brick wall

Pick one. We know their executives are retarded on a fundamental level.

Just because you can't tell the difference, doesn't mean I can't. Likewise, for something like a monitor, refresh rate is literally a measurable thing. This isn't some "capacitance" bullshit with wires leading into your speakers. So, maybe you don't notice it, but I don't know your setup.

Yes, I know about the coat hanger test, too.
Okay, Superman. Hope that high frame rate tucks you in at night.

Im still super surprised that GTA 6 hasn't confirmed a PC release and that I found out about it here.
Surely most of their GTA Online players are PC and Steamdeck (also PC)? I really doubt they would voluntarily skip their largest market for Sony exclusivity (Xbox live is virtually dead).

My uninformed prediction is that PS5Pro sales will flop hard and Sony will pretend it never happened and stay on track for a 2027 PS6 release, and people might buy it because no one will want to use Windows 11 any more than they have to. (I'm silently hoping the Linux compatibility leaps made by the Steamdeck doesnt plateau)

I remember, but note that GTA V was released over a decade ago during the actual peak of console gaming. Prior to that PC gaming didn't even exist.
GTA 6 will release on console 10 years after GTA V released on PC.
Did big studios just stop taking in playerbase statistic data after 2013? I have no data for this, but there's no way the PC GTAO playercount doesnt completely eclipse both consoles combined.

PC gaming definitely existed before 2013 wtf are you talking about?

PC was already the place to go for multiplats in this era. The Seventh-Gen consoles were so anemic due to asinine decisions by IBM that you could put together a povo Core 2 Duo and 8800GT system to stomp all over the PS3/360. The term "PC master race" was coined in 2007 ffs.

I personally think Sony is still deluded enough that they think they can woo PC players into their shitty consoles. They've been that way since the PS3 days, thinking that its a luxurious good that the average person is working towards owning.

hey're a bit younger and remember the "good old days" when sony would treat them to $1000 a plate dinners every week during the ps1 and ps2 eras, which definitely wasn't a bribe, and maybe sony will start doing that again if they just skip the switch for their new game, that's just what the status quo was for decades.
Bribes like those do not work when your console has no sales or playerbase. Sony did what it always does without looking around to see how the world changed and suffered for it.

The next wave of game devs in japan are going to be the ones that grew up during the era of unprecedented switch domination. During a time which sony was actively hostile for zero benefit. PS5 during its peak isn't even competition for the exhaust fumes of the tail end of the switch's life.
Almost no console can compete with the releash schedule of the Switch.

What do you think is going to happen in japan when the switch 2 launches? Even if sony did a complete 180 right now (ignoring the fact that they'd need to have done it years ago with how abysmally long game dev takes, due in no small part to them), I doubt it would be enough to reverse course.
When I was explaining this to friends, I was told "This is just how things are done now". And most could not believe me when I told them that this is unsustainable. If old gaming development was like driving a car, then modern is like driving a cruiseship. Really hard to change course on the fly or stop unless you manage to hit something and then the whole thing goes down.

I don't see Sony making a PS6 any time soon. There's no reason to.
I did not say soon. But when it happens, that will be the end of them unless they manage to get all the good will they lost from gamers and devs.

Xbox leaks showed they're already gearing up for next gen. Sony will have no choice but to follow no later than a year afterwards. Also, while Nintendo isn't directly competing with Sony I can't imagine the hype around a new console will help push PS5s, pro or otherwise.
They are competing alright. They are competing for the devs attention. Can Sony or Microsoft persuade 3rd parties to make games that would be unplayable on Switch 2?

They might have been but Concord might have helped snap them out of that brilliant plan. They will still try it but they will manage expectations. Rockstar des are propably pulling their hair out for agreeing to it after they saw the sales of PS5 and X/S.

PC gaming is the original. You ever heard of Commodore 64 https://www.commodore.ca/commodore-products/commodore-64-the-best-selling-computer-in-history/amp/

Before there were dedicated pong consoles, the Nintendo Game & Watch, Atari , Arcade machines, etc. everything was a PC game. The original video games were server hosted text based games you had to connect to on college campus networks.

The Gaming Historian did a video 4 months ago that touched on the origin of gaming when he covered the history of Oregon Trail.

lol, lmao even.

If PS6 is on track for Holiday 2026, and I believe it is, then what fucking games even released this gen. Sony has announced nothing in fucking years. If they do a SOP and show games coming next year, why even buy a pro? wait a year and get a PS6.

One of my friends is a die-hard Sony niggercattle consoomer. He buys every sony game, console and periphal on day one. He absolutely loves them. Talking to him about PS5PRO he said "Why even bother? For that price, yeah it's powerful, but what's the point? Ps5 looks good enough as it is".

Anecdotal but when Sonyggers are saying no, then Sony are fucked.

$800 and it STILL can not run PS3 games natively. There is no reason why even the base model PS5 doesn't have a PS3 emulator built-in.
Sony will never embrace emulators when they can just resell you the same game updated to modern sensibilities. Those old games could be problematic and you cannot be allowed to play them.

Prior to that PC gaming didn't even exist.
What have I been playing on since the early 90s? How old are you?

It kind of blows me away.

Yeah, PC gaming hit it's peak popularity in the 2010's, but like FFS all of the PS1 3rd party heavy hitters got PC releases back in the 90's. (Resident Evil 1-3, Final Fantasy VII-IX, Tomb Raider 1-3, Metal Gear Solid, etc. etc. etc.)

Hell, even MGS 2: Substance got a PC release in like 2002 or 2003.

PS3 was definitely suffering a bit but the Xbox 360 was getting banger after banger for its entire life cycle and most of them were exclusives.
"PC Master Race" was a widespread joke associated with fedora-tipping behavior, especially because a lot of the vocal PC users would have the "just say you cant afford it" attitude that snoyboys are having now. My 360 slim was like $200 and gold would have a yearly sale for $25-50 for the whole year (it actually had users back then).
Yeah it existed like Steamdeck users exist today but there was literally no reason to move from console to PC yet, especially if you had an xbox.

(I am aware that Steam is not the only way to play games, this is just an example)

Geezer

In my opinion. I think they will churn out a PS6 and that will kill them when it has to compete with a newly galvanised Nintendo that has new AAA games from big Japanese publishers while Sony will be even more lacking in exclusives. Sony has enough money to make a final push with a new console even if it is in vain.

Sony releasing yet another more powerful system so soon when Nintendo is dominating the market with the equivalent of an 8 year old Android tablet would be suicidal. Even normies are noticing the effect of diminishing returns of graphics in video games. Graphics reached the point of "good enough" years ago and only pretentious Western AAA developers keep pumping exorbitant budgets to produce hyper realistic visual for glorified walking simulators (Senua's Sacrifice 2, God of War Ragnarok).

Nintendo figured out that the graphics arms race approach to game development was a fool's errant and they understood that developers just cannot keep up with the exorbitant monetary and manpower demand this type of development requires. You better believe a lot of AA game developers are going to focus on handhelds system level power and stylized visuals as their target because the return on investment is higher and the development times are shorter. Trying to develop games exclusively for ever more expensive hardware for a shrinking audience of die hard sycophants is no longer viable, there is no money to be made there.

Compare that to Nintendo who only needs to release hardware that is adequate for their needs at a mass market price point and they are golden,

That being said, I don't even think Sony knows what the hell they are doing anymore. After the move to California they have become completely out of touch with reality. Concord shows just in how much of an ideological bubble they are trapped in that NOBODY in 6-8 years of development raised their concerns about this game being a train wreck in the making.

Sony is not going to announce a PS6 but there are rumors of them toying with the idea of a dedicated handheld again (The Playstation Portal was a test to see the market's reaction) Sony is so unoriginal it would not be beneath them to attempt to copy the success of the Switch or the Steam Deck. My guess is that they might try to launch in a year or two a portable PS5 that is 100% compatible with the base PS5, fully digital and with cross saves so players can play the same games on a PS5/Pro and on this theoretical portable.

If instead Sony releases a completely separate handheld with different specs and separate library of games, developers are going to tell Sony to go fuck themselves,

Developers are not going to waste their time with a repeat of the PSVita.

$800 and it STILL can not run PS3 games natively. There is no reason why even the base model PS5 doesn't have a PS3 emulator built-in.

Sony has zero incentive to add such a functionality. They want you buying their freshly made goyslop and the umpteenth remaster of their previous goyslop franchises from last gen. By releasing the PS5 Pro without a disc drive they are telling you that they do not care about your older physical collection of games.

Meanwhile RPCS3 emulation just keeps getting better and better, the project already acheived 70% playable status for the PŜ3 library, So long you have a PC that meets the requirements you don't have to wait for Sony to do anything.

Not shocking in the least, PS5 already uses AMD tech. This is the easiest way to ensure the feature would be implemented. The same is true for Switch 2 using a more powerful variant of Nvidia's Tegra chips to ensure backwards compativility.

"PC didn't exist" guy has a point that the PS360 era was a very console focused era. Steam was not even comparable to the juggernaut it is today.
