Telegram has about the same level of encryption as Discord (transport encryption, no E2E). Only "Secret Chats" have E2E encryption but most people don't use them.
Really, the advantage is that Discord/Telegram are full of degenerates and can be easily used to recruit new members into the cult. But anybody using non-E2E chats to commit crime (and not deleting the messages) is retarded and just begging for their shit to be subpoenaed by glowies.

Something for this thread to focus on: I think that people need to heavily investigate these group's recruiting methods so they can be snuffed out in larger communities. Some of my earlier posts in the Gen Z sadism thread (before it devolved into people politisperging about the topic) consisted of investigating the aesthetics many edgy groups used to see if there were any overlap with other groups and patterns (which I believe there were with the Gen Z discord raider types).
For those who weren't in the Gen Z sadism thread: The seigetard-like larper aesthetics often are apart of terminally online "right wing" gen Z meme culture. See soyjak.party's, iFunny's, and other "schizoposter's" edgy nazi fascination for good examples of this. The whole "hyperborean schizowave" scene reeks of this esoteric seigetard larping aesthetic as well. There is currently a theory that this aesthetic is in some way useful to recruitment or helps in identifying these types of people to each other.
The appeal of the aesthetic to people joining into this scene should be considered because, if it is meaningful, it will give information on how these groups spawn and grow. Furthermore, documenting if a pipeline for recruitment to com groups through groups that interface with this larper aesthetic should be done as well. If there is a pipeline, it too can be dismantled so more youth don't get sucked up in internet hurtcore manipulation and pedophile rings.
My theories for the signifigance in the aesthetic in their recruitment may be total bunk, but heavy investigation into how these groups grow and spawn is important for cutting off their supply of new participants. While law enforcement can arrest those already into this nonsense, it is ultimately up to community leaders to suppress the influence and expansion of these groups.

Great thread so far! One clarification I would strongly suggest making is that the 'larpercore' space more broadly is not entirely these extortion groups. In fact the vast majority of groups on the Larpercore wiki are not extort groups at all. The UKK for example, they generally hate and despise 764 and all of its offshoots and don't do extortion. Mind you that group isn't particularly relevant (at least nowadays), it's just an example I gave.
'Larpercore' itself is a fundamentally aesthetic description at the end of the day.
The Wiki author also puts the UTTP in that article as well which isn't typically thought of with these extortion groups

Discord in general is not a privacy-focused platform whatsoever. The amount of user information it collects is absolutely insane. Just look at the /science API endpoint for instance

Discord is such a piece of shit. You can't even delete other people's messages in DMs, and deleting your own requires deleting each one at a time (whether manually or automated, it is slow due to ratelimits). At least Telegram lets you delete others' messages, and purge the chat instantly, and they have a disappearing messages feature. Anybody who expects anything on Discord to be private is retarded, simple as.

Yup. Thankfully there are third party Discord clients that outright block /science. They're technically against the ToS though. But even ignoring this specific endpoint, you're right, the lack of the other features you mentioned also make Discord a poor platform if you're expecting user privacy.

I believe they use Discord because it has heavily facilitated grooming. They can just hop on whatever server they want, associate with any "alphabet soup" group, and find their targets (usually it's vulnerable groups, like people with mental disorders, girls, racial minorities, almost always underage). Meanwhile I've never used Telegram but they probably use it because it's more "private", encrypted, or whatever. Telegram also has a broader extremist/accelerationist movement called Terrorgram.
Also I don't wanna doublepost so I think "toxxing" should also be mentioned in this thread. Toxxing is a term they made up to describe falsely mass-reporting another server or user on Discord. While they can use any method to do that, in severe cases it involves spamming child sexual abuse content, so the members of that server get falsely banned for pedophilia. However, this is more common in the raiding larpercore groups than in the sextortion ones.

Telegram is also generally widely used as a communication platform these days, especially on the international scale. In fact it's decently popular in the US but extremely popular outside of the states. Eclipses most other messenger programs unless there's something region specific like LINE (Japan) for example.

Yeah, I can confirm this happened recently, but we weren't completely aware of the details. One of my friends spied on the No LIves Matter Telegram group chat, in which they also had some pretentious tutorials on how to murder people. One day in July they were suddendly bragging about how they just murdered someone for no reason while livestreaming it so all degenerates alike can watch. They allegedly used voice changers during the call to not be identified and said some shit like "expect more attacks on mundane people". I don't know what happened afterwards, but their GC supossedly got taken down and it's possible they got reported to the FBI. NLM started out as a edgy graffiti group by the way.
