Philosophy Tube / Oliver Lennard / Oliver "Olly" Thorn / Abigail Thorn - Breadtube's Patrick Bateman.

Nebula is fascinating. I've lumped them with Dropout but I think I was wrong, their CEO is not in their subreddit deleting posts and spending money on 12-minute movies. I don't like their stuff but they do make real half-hour shows and hourlong specials.

It does come off like they're trying to hide something - like why is he constantly lurking on their Reddit? Why does he reply to posts five seconds after they're up?

It's also supposed to be a place where everyone has an equal vote in how it's run, but it's clear Olly is getting about 99.9% of the opportunites. No other Nebula originals get the hype that this and The Prince did for what is likely very little viewership.

Really uhh.. trying to make something happen there, aren't ya kiddo?
Damn you know that line, that seminal line? That "some thing to eat?"
Killed me. That will echo down the ages fr.

There's 'forced meme' then there's whatever this is.

Talk about wasteful.
Much anti capitalism, very save the planet. Every thing that exists needs to have 20 different pieces of 'mErCh'

Now that time has passed with basically no fanfare will the excuse be the same as HOTD? "Transphobia + plebs are too dumb to appreciate Olly"? I guess his ego has the obvious excuse of "no one really watches Nebula"?

Incredible narc energy in this post, the self-regard is unbearable.
reminds me of the long post he wrote about the college girl hitting on him and it was just a mile of narc cringe. I just don't understand how he can be so oblivious. same thing that allows him to cast himself as a hot young woman I guess.

Also there's merch, including some ludicrously flattering character portraits:
Who on earth is going to buy merch for a short that's released on a rather obscure platform? I'm assuming that these things are printed as they get ordered, though it's a hilarious thought that Olly's apartment is full of unsold "Dracula's Ex-Girlfriend" merchandise.
It looks slightly better on a different model, more so in a different fabric
You know, if it was pant legs on the red version instead of being a dress it would sort of work?

It's 12 minutes?! I assumed it was at least 30 minutes or something since they had a red carpet premiere. How embarrassing. I guess for the attendees it must've felt like 120 minutes though.

GAMPs and their obsessions. I can almost bet you that Wiskus will do the GAMP-to-AGP pipeline at this point.

If Wiskus does to Toob what Toob did to Contra I would laugh so fucking hard.

Although I bet for Olly it would be validating as fuck. He wouldn't see it as an obsessed creep trying to become him, he'd see it as the ultimate expression of appreciating his beauty and talent.

Please, please please please let Dave Wiskus turn into Diane, put on some fetishwear and start making videos.

Omg, maybe "Diane", patron of the arts from the streams is his coom alter ego

Checking the Dracula's Ex- AGPGirlfriend thread in r/Nebula since Choob declared it to be a "hit" on instagram.

Ok folks, let's totally go to IMDb again to see what the evil transphobe wrote!

I don't want to be harsh, but...
Look, as someone who has followed the YouTube channel for years and did at one point consider themselves a big fan, I can't knock Philosophy Tube/Thorn's work ethic, go-getting attitude and drive, but the reality is... Thorn really, really can't act. I mean, Thorn obviously knows *how* to act, knows about the different techniques, and what kinds of faces to pull in what kinds of scenarios, and what kind of tone and inflection to adopt to emphasise particular words or emotions but... when it comes to actually, well, acting it all out, it all falls flat.

And it certainly doesn't help that the character is evidently supposed to be a gorgeous young woman, instead of a... thirty year-old male person. But hey, a talented actor might regardless of their looks be able to exude such a charisma, such an "aura", that they can make it work. Unfortunately, Thorn is not that. The thing is, acting isn't simply about "following some set of rules" - to a certain extent, you've just got to have "it", and Thorn... does not have it.

What makes it so much worse is that the film is also rather... salacious... it's lewd, it's crude, it's vulgar - there were so many parts that were SO overly-sexual in a way that was undoubtedly meant to come across as provocative/edgy/irreverent/outrageously funny/shamelessly bold/kinda hot ngl but instead came across as... fetishistic. Weirdly fetishistic of the trauma and hyper-sexuality of this young woman character and so evoking an uncomfortableness well beyond what the scenes were meant to (so less of an "omg, I can't believe she said that!!" and more of a "jfc, I can't believe these people wrote and performed that").

Another 5/10 review where Choob gets called a "Trans Tommy Wiseau", I'm dying.

Like watching a trans Tommy wiseau
I've rated this 5 stars because I'm thorn (pun). On one hand, this is a godawful film. Ultimately I don't think it's worth your time and the thought of thorn believing this could be their breakthrough into Hollywood is INSANE. If I were abigail thorn right now, I'd be counting my blessings that I have a semi successful YouTube channel to fall back on because this has the potential to kill a career stone dead.

On the other hand, this also has the potiental to be a so bad it's good type of film, almost on the level of the room. There were moments so uncomfortable and borderline unwatchable that I just started laughing. I laughed until I cried at parts. The scene where thorn starts saying sexual stuff was such a tough watch that it turned 180 and became entertaining. I never knew what real humour was until I saw a British transgender woman with a massive head saying the phrase "are you going to punish me, mummy?" while attempting to mangle their flagrantly male vocal chords into something, anything, resembling a sultry, sexy tone, and failing miserably.

Maybe this was thorn's break into Hollywood, and she just had to undergo some sort of inhumane humiliation ritual, the result of which is an arduous watch with some unintentionally entertaining moments. If you do feel like watching this, don't.

This comment makes a really good point. The movie is supposed to be about leaving an abusive and toxic relationship through the analogy of vampirism. The implication is that there is some control of the woman through sex, possible sexual assault.

So why would you have the character be overtly flirtatious and sexual without putting it into a negative light?

It’s been brought up before but it would only make sense in a porno.

Choob is so coom-brained that he thinks porn dialogue is acceptable in a drama movie.

Yeah "I can't leave him because he fucks so good" is not how women express it. Abused men sometimes talk that way but it's to deflect from the reality of how vulnerable their partners' abuse is making them feel by diverting to a subject that is guaranteed to distract other dudes. Women don't need to do this because it's obvious how they would be vulnerable to an abusive man. Chicks are more likely to frame it in a way that makes them seem just so super compassionate that they couldn't possibly leave: "He'd be lost without me", "I owe him so much," "I couldn't do this to him" etc.

Is that even what was supposed to be happening in thsi film?
I guess so. Reading through the scripts I was just like '??????????' the entire time.
It was utterly baffling to me, and the disgust response was doing a number on my logical faculties.
I find it impossible to watch Tube talk on his YouTube channel because the cringe is too high, so even in text form this threw me totally.

Of all the shit to drag your parents to.
I'm not even joking when I say they probably both stress whiteyed at some point the evening after watching it. It will have caused nightmares.
There's loads of shit they've been buffered form by virtue of not picking over Ollys online presence where he really let's his agp shine but it will have hit them like a train watching that.
Wrapped in a layer of wtf because of all the 2021 isms.
Watching this on a big screen with big speakers. In a room full of people.
Then there's wtf ever was said at the Q&A afterwards. That would be worth keeping an eye out for.

Anyone in this thread could make essay upon essay, evoking every department on which this thing fails, and still wouldn't sting nearly as much as these fragments.

This... this wouldn't be as painful had the had the decency of saving the balderbash and just submit it to any film festival where it could just die in irrelevance like the rest of us. I mean, wow... I've seen people burn government grants for tax write-offs and in the process burn their resumes but this is just... is cathartic to see people that clearly get advantages in the race fumble so hard before the line. Damn poppylarky really pays. I ought to use more five dollar words, maybe that's the key to get in with the grifters in this biz.

It does make me wonder what he's like when he's with his parents. Knowing how socially inept he is, I wouldn't be surprised if he cringes them out all the time in person too, constantly talking in troonspeak and oversharing about his sex life round the family dinner table.

I feel like a competent writer/director/actor could make this concept work, because it's basically just stockholm syndrome. The key is you need to juxtapose scenes like this against ones showing the reality of the victim's state of mind to put their more bizarre behaviour in context. Handled properly, this could be a compelling commentary on society's perception of how a 'real' victim should behave, with the vampire stuff adding a metaphorical buffer to take the edge off the heavy subject matter.

As it stands, Olly's film is just fetish disguised as art. His character doesn't act in a overtly sexual and vulgar manner as a coping mechanism for his trauma, he does it because Olly gets off on acting like an airheaded slut on camera.

I think that's where the confusion comes in.
Because he's so very much NOT in any way that, that it becomes hard to recognise what he's even supposed to be getting at.
That part doesn't really register for me because (against my will) I'm so familiar with AGPs now, but I cannot begin to imagine how this must hit an audience who doesn't understand what's really going on here.

I suppose it feels a lot like watching the short-lived sketch show Jam (mildly NSFW), where the sketches were deliberately intended to be extremely off-putting but most of the audience just didn't get it (and even when you do get it it remains deeply uncomfortable to watch).
