Mega Rad Gun Thread

Does anyone have experience with a combination gun? I'm thinking about getting one as a truck gun.

I'm thinking a TPS in .357 and .410 bore. The .357 will be for deer and two legged game and the .410 for birds, squirrel, and other small critters.
a .410 for birds is a experts gun FYI. the small amount of shot and the "stringing" of the shot column makes it difficult to use on moving game. 28 gauge would be better.

First gun I ever had was a break action .410 my father bought me for bird and squirrel hunting. God that gun was terrible for anything but rabbits.

True. I really wish Savage still made the .30-30/12 GA models. A bit heavy but adequate for almost anything north America has to offer

My Tikka T3X CTR has a nice vortex Viper 3-15x gen 2 (PST I think) in Mrad/mils.

.308 out of a 20 inch barrel.... I doubt I could use much more scope although the Leopold Mk4 4.5-18 or the Athlon/Meopta 4.5-29x certainly seem neat.....

Modern long range / precision scopes have gotten RIDICULOUSLY good on the last 10 years.

I still remember when 3-9x was the standard and considered all you'll every need....
I thought you cannot own firearms in India?

Happy Parabellum Day (9/19).

This is the ideal pistol cartridge. You may not like it, but this is what peak all-around performance looks like. Soldiers, cops, civilians, and criminals alike all agree.

Once again, I am compelled to shill that SGAmmo has Federal 9BPLE for about $25 per box of 50. No other known good SD round is as affordable as this one, and as a bonus the new high pressure 9x19 rounds that the military is using is loaded to near the same spec (1350 fps), and can be had for around .28 per rnd. Not that I should point out the obvious, but training with rounds loaded similarly to the serious rounds is always a good thing, as changing the bullet weight can influence point of aim vs point of impact quite a bit.

Of course, if you're going to use spicy stuff like this, its not gonna work in garbage guns, so maybe don't buy these rounds unless its for a military grade pistol.

NATO (read: US) used DU in Yugoslavia during the breakup and didn't admit it until much later. When they finally did, they said that they used it in "targets of convenience" and therefore did not keep records of DU usage places. I guarantee you the same will be in a Taiwan conflict given that Taiwan is slated to fall.

I mean, the US scrapped the Yucca national radioactive waste repository, all that waste has to go somewhere. It's not like the US fights wars on it's own soils so they wouldn't give a fuck.
RIP

As for DU munitions: I think its a foregone conclusion the US will use it in small arms. its a perfect solution, we know how to use it (its what tank AP rounds are made of) and have massive, massive stockpiles of it. DU has nice side-effect too. its incendiary. when it hits armor it the powder/dust it produces self ignites. IIRC in oxides video you can see this. also in its inert form inside the projectile it has no adverse effects on health, and when it's powderized in a destroyed vehicle its not really a radiation concern but one of heavy metal poisoning.

in the next proper war the US will have DU 5.56, 7.62 and 6.8 most ricky-tic. hell if it was already a accepted AP solution we wouldn't have even neede 6.8 but here we are.
DU is definitely viable, it's just a very much "oh shit we're at war" type of round where politics don't matter much anymore.
Had to send my .300 PRC back to Christensen Arms because it was having a shit ton of trouble with 225 grain Hornady ELD-M rounds. If I didn't take a brass 12 gauge brush and use it clean the chamber neck/throat area after every 20 rounds or so, I'd get spent brass stuck in the chamber or the bolt would be so fucking hard to operate I'd end up busting my knuckles on the scope trying to cycle it.

Learn a lesson from me, gents. If you want a serious LR rifle, get one custom built. If you want one that's decent for a decent price, pick up a Bergara or a Tikka and put a Leupold Mark 4 on it.
As a fellow 300 (win) magnum owner, I feel that bro. Hopefully they fix her up and you get to shoot 1600 yards again.

I run a 4-12x vortex on my 300 win mag, honestly find it perfect given the limits of the rifle itself. Had a 3-9x, it was OK.

that warning makes no sense. 9BLE was developed years ago for the Illinois State Police and they carry a Glock as standard.
The warning does call out that Glocks are fine, but yeah. I wonder what the chamber pressure actually is. Is it a legitimate "don't blow your fingers off, retard" or just the lawyers noticing that they averaged five psi more than SAAMI spec and making Federal cover their asses?

Not sure, but ISP uses Glocks as stated, so anything built to the standard of a Glock will be fine, like HKs.

The load was developed to work in their Smith and Wesson 39's...

I guess Federal loads them to the exact spect for the max load pressure for +P, with little headroom, so you can have variances in the load that will exceed +P pressure, hence the +P+ rating.

I guess I'll just replace the recoil spring early if I shoot thousands of them.

Smith and Wesson 39
i was understanding they still use it pretty regularly for ISP, and some other state law enforcement (Glock, S&W 59, others). while it's +P+, something that shoots reliably in a duty Glock 17 should be reasonably working in most other full size locked breech handguns (longer action, lower slide velocity, lower recoil impulse vs smaller pistols). it somehow not working safely in an M320 is very weird.

I replaced the spring and follower in the ancient Colt 30 rounder I got for cheap at the gun show. The spring and follower were so worn that the mag had trouble feeding the last 2 rounds. Feels kinda bad but it's probably what Eugene Stoner would've wanted.
