The self proclaimed experts of CG said IDW would go out of business years ago, it's still here. The bigger companies obviously can persist even longer even if all the shops went out of business. CG were wrong about a lot of stuff and people who bought in to the narrative still want to believe the companies will disappear any time now for not being based enough. Nice thought but the globohomo companies that own Superman and Spiderman still are gonna own them and be here for a long ass time.

I would have fought against you for this 4 years ago when I was still "fighting the good fight against them SJWs in comics!" But here we are... I'm not saying the industry is right, it's not better, but one thing is true : Comicsgate fucking lost. Big time.

Sure, the sales are still abysmal, and sure when you go to some convention the lines aren't out the door... But honestly it doesn't mean shit. Yeah Yaboi Mags might have to start a gofundme for rent, but he still gets work in the industry, he still gets to make his shit and that's more than Zack gets to say.

I think that CG kind of won as most of them can afford existing but neither looks pretty. Draw feels more accurate.

It's probably less science fiction and more good old fashioned untreated syphilis. Syphilis is very nasty, Zack should get himself checked out. Knowing how to run an IV is part of infantry first aid training, and one thing you learn quickly is that running one is amazing for neutralizing a hangover. So I'm guessing the IVs are standard, it's what goes on before that that produces videos of a girl kissing you with another guy's load in her mouth

Part of this is because they've lost any confidence in Marvel comics after the Squirrel Girl incident. Specifically what I'm talking about is them buying or ordering the Squirrel Girl comic which had cover art like this:

Now while it's not at all unusual for the cover to have a different art style then the comic itself, most of the time they don't completely misrepresent what the character in the comic looks like. For instance you don't see Dragonball with buff Goku on the cover but inside Goku is actually short, fat, and balding. There were a lot of Japanese people on Twitter who were very pissed off about this. I remember one comment to the effect of "What the hell is this? I bought this comic thinking it would be a cute squirrel girl fighting bad guys, not an ugly man."

A lot of the Japanese have learned that Marvel will not honestly portray their characters on the cover of the comic, it's not just a difference in art style. DC comic actually sell a lot better in Japan than Marvel for a reason. Because the Superman on the cover actually looks like Superman in the comic.


Not to mention the Japs have noticed that Marvel's writing has become incredibly shit, far moreso than DC's as a rule. It's not really the only reason, but the Japanese are the sort of people who will absolutely remember if you've ever screwed them over even once and they will never buy from you again.

Some people do just buy a comic for a cover (J. Scott Campbell covers are a big example). One of the big problems a random c/d list title has from the big two is the quality of art in the book. The better artists/star artists are on the better selling books. The quality drop off to these lower rung titles is very noticeable. Drawing Squirrel Girl like she has 'problems' is dumb, of course. You hire, say, Aubrey Plaza to play a role, you get an attractive woman in a tv show or movie. Bad art/bad character design kill a comic from the start. The rule of cool as a trope matters big time in comics. And the cost of comics is such, you get a dud, you have invested more for less. I watch a WWE PLE on Peacock, I'm only out 5 bucks or so and get much longer entertainment time sink.

It is crazy how they are not a blue chip stock anymore. They have a multimedia empire that foreigners spend their entire vacation getting to like Mecca, but shares are under a hundred dollars.

Journey of a thousand miles and all that. Rippa can't afford to buy Mr. A or Booster Gold now, but Cyberfrog or Jawbreakers IP? That's a more probable goal and better for the movement overall.
