Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Seems YT is ramping up attacks on Invidious again, with a combo of the "sign in to prove you're not a bot" BS, "gateway timeout" BS, and "the media could not be loaded" BS.
New apparent YT BS tactic: blocking vids on Invidious instances with a "This content isn’t available." message.
Seems it's so bad at the moment that pretty much all Invidious instances are down now, and Piped hasn't worked in a long time. The advertisers really want you to watch ads.

I'm still, and for the foreseeable future, will be, annoyed by the Offensive Comment Warning. You know the cunt: the soft, nagging bint pops up when you rightly want to call someone out for the kind of comment they've made, like something low-key bullying, as an example, if that makes sense to anyone. And yes, I did say low-key, but I used it in the correct way, and not in the overused redundant way thick/simple/smug bastards say it. It's been a term(?) for many generations.

@ToroidalBoat What about this one: 'Unavailable videos are hidden.' Fuck's Sake, of course they're hidden: THEY'RE NOT THERE ANYMORE. And another one, and then I'm finished: When you're watching a video with the subject of suicide, they have some mental health hotline just above where the description is. It's so... I wanna say patronising.

It's like they're trying to be a net nanny.

Aside from that ad BS, what also annoys me about YT is that they want to "socially engineer" you to become SJW "a better human being" through manipulation of search results, censorious "Community Guidelines", and of course those blue "The Narrative™ Says" info boxes.

You've hit the nail on the head, as countless people say/have said. On both points.

FTFY. Advertisers can survive without Youtube (well most of them can, can't be bothered to do any digging here) but Youtube without advertisers would be insolvent overnight.

I much rather Youtube collapse back to its 2010 self in terms of technical level (it ran fine, we didnt use anything beyond 720p for most things) if it means ads will be gone.

Will never happen but Im just saying.

I found out I got a community guidelines strike for using a picture of Nikolas Cruz though I didn't talk about him in the video. Even having a picture of a deranged psychopath is enough to get your video removed. I'm not too mad about it though because I know YouTube is a piece of shit and archivists are working tirelessly to archive every video that isn't content farms garbage.

Why would they even do that? There are countless videos covering that shooting up on YT. The footage of him being questioned is on multiple channels. YT's censorship algorithm and the actual people who work there and look at this stuff are both borderline retarded.

YouTube has such a double standard really. It just depends on who you are. You're either lucky or unlucky. I treat this as another comedic page in late stage YouTube.

I wonder when they are coming for Brave because they told Google "no" and if there is something Google hates is being told "no".
Use Vivaldi, you incompetent retard, pihole any DNS requests, ads, and filter traffic. Your goodput suddenly increase. There's a Slav out there selling these things, all you have to do is plug it in, punch in some settings, turn off DHCP on your home router, done. Lazy fuck.

Btw, this instance is alive: https://invidious.privacyredirect.com/watch?v=Qvx5cC1s_PI

To be fair the challenge-platform is challenge requests to find bot patterns - also it's part of Cloudflare. Cloudflare are their own issue sure, but it isn't some suspicious API call.

Edit, in fact anything that's a /cdn-cgi endpoint is Cloudflare content delivery related.

Nowadays I don't use the main YT site and I also use ad blocker, so I normally do not see YT ads. But when visiting family, we saw some YT vids on a "smart" TV, with no ad blocker. 2 unskippable ads: one of Harris, the other of a Democrat state governor candidate. I hear Republican ads are skippable -- assuming YT even allows them of course.

On a related note, ads will now appear even if the video you're watching is paused according to this article. I think it's limited to smart TVs for now but (with the caveat that my tech/electronics background is nil) I cannot think of a reason it couldn't extend to the site or mobile app.

A quote from Google:

The new ad experience is meant to keep the video viewing experience as uninterrupted as possible, a Google spokesperson said in a statement to CNN.

“This is seamless for viewers and allows them to learn more about a brand. It’s been a beneficial update for the entire YouTube ecosystem and one of the elements of the modern [connected TV] ads experience,” the spokesperson said.

Or to quote RLM:

Back to google, here is a post from Xitter user named Westle quoted in the article:

Nobody tell him that maybe the reason we paused the video is that we wanted to listen to something else!

And this is our fate, this is what Susan chose, there is no turning back:
Philipp Schindler, the chief business officer at Google, said during the company’s first-quarter earnings call in April that it “saw strong traction” from advertisers for pause ads on connected TVs while YouTube piloted the experience in 2023.

Edit to add: The word 'I' in the first paragraph + a screencap of the Xeet.

I will keep recommending it but ReVanced for Android phones is the only way to avoid the suffering that is being forced on you on phones
ReVanced is excellent, but it isn't the only way. I've been using GrayJay for a while now, and it's the best third party Android YT app I've used.

Whenever YT fucks around with their back end to try and break adblockers, GrayJay's YT plugin is updated almost immediately. The worst that ever happens is that it might throw a couple of errors before playing the video, but the video will play after a few attempts and there won't be any ads.

That all being said, do not download GrayJay from the Play Store, as FUTO is forced to put out a gimped version on there. Sideload the APK from the official GrayJay site or get it from F-Droid.

This might sound retarded but does "side loading" mean you download the app from a webpage and install it like a .exe on a pc? If so I've been side loading things for awhile and had no idea it had a name besides "installing something".
