Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
If YT didn't try to force users to watch ads (that "adlblocker bad" BS), then I may have still been using the YT site itself to this day, despite a number of site issues.

It's likely their BS campaign to push ads hasn't reduced traffic to the YT site itself much, with plenty of "normies" watching ads.
I appreciate YT like Louis Rossmann that try to inform his audience on how to block ads.

Plus, after the plandemic, you saw a uptick in people trying to spin adblocking = piracy.

(TL: Temporary issues with YouTube. YouTube is slowing down. We're doing everything we can to return the normal speed. Use VPN to increase speed.)
So in Russia YouTube now asks users to use VPN because the government has slowed down the website for a while now. I guess YT can now show ads to Russians thanks to this.

I've been watching a lot of videos about corporate frauds, specifically with STEM, stuff like theranos.
I really think that if people were more confident in not knowing things, they'd be able to press these charlatans a bit more, and things like this wouldn't happen as often.

if people were more confident in not knowing things
It's a common human flaw that people are not willing to admit to themselves or others that they don't know something, and aren't willing to question the validity of things that they think they know.

Looks like the advertisers at YT have a new trick to counter Invidious instances: making them do a "gateway timeout" (even more).

I started seeing that over the weekend and wondered what it was about. I'm now at the point where even if the alternatives die off, I would rather do without than use the horrible, bloated, memory-hogging mess that is YouTube.
it just happened to me. had an entire playlist on youtube terminated without even knowing what the offending content is, this playlist was made before 2017 btw, I appealed it and Im curious to see if they will keep it removed, they are acting as if 13 year old (the age I was when I created the playlist) me regularly enjoyed watching content that is abhorrently racist and misinformed, like I just wanted to watch funny videos?

So early morning today, a relative received an e-mail that YouTube is upping the price of Premium's family plan at least in the region I'm in. I wonder how many less aware third-world shitholes YouTube will leech from until they knock on the doors of Western countries.

It's not a perfect solution, but you can get an "archived" version your playlist and other stuff using the Google Accounts archive feature.

It should be available up in "Your Data" IF you have a YouTube account. From there, you can request an archive delivered to your email address, and you can download the following zip, including the latest in your playlists.

I've taken to the habit of downloading such once per year, seeing to Youtube's terrible habits or its uploaders. I don't have a decent way of making it readable that I have discovered, but at least I have something. Whether it's the whole shabang or not, I cannot say.

On a side note, I recently logged into an *old* YouTube account of mine that predates the Google Accounts bullshit that was shoved down our throats around 2011-2012. I have discovered that even "deleted" videos still have both their titles and thumbnails, unlike more recently where you aren't even notified of their deletion. This includes the old video stuff I used to browse back then. It was a precious time capsule.

Needless to say, I have screenshot'ed those instances and suggest you guys do the same if you have an old YT account you have not logged into for a while. You might find some nice treasure for stuff, even if the videos themselves are long gone.

Is it me or the frequency of ads, unskippable may I add, is increasing? Maybe its me or maybe they are increasing it to "compensate" for the people still using adblocks? Leave it to Google to punish even the people playing along with their demands.

For context, I mean ads on my youtube app, I use Adblock origin + Brave at home and its still working fine.

using the YouTube app on something like a Roku is just a flat-out miserable experience. Ads all over the place aside, the fucking thing goes back to the homescreen if you pause a video and try to come back to it if the screensaver activates, so you've lost your entire progress.

Now i just have a laptop connected to a tv that has Freetube on it. I'm so sick of YouTube's bullshit.

I will keep recommending it but ReVanced for Android phones is the only way to avoid the suffering that is being forced on you on phones. As Nite said, a little second hand refurbished office pc with a basic bitch linux distro, a bluetooth keyboard and FreeTube/Firefox w/ uBlock Origin makes TV viewing bearable too.
