Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

I'm not gonna like cry for her or anything, but that is still a bit depressing. But yeah, if I said I'm gonna miss her I'd be a fucking liar.
Thoughts and prayers to the husband and their family, but they're well off so I don't doubt that they'll be fine.
Can't say I'll miss her. Karma truly is a bitch.
And now Neal Mohan is CEO of the company. Indian-Americans are doing gangbusters in 2024.

Is there a way to mass download my playlists of 5000 videos, like a script or something?

Too late for me to archive.

Most playlists are 80% deleted videos now.

YouTube is rotting away...
I've been saving videos since at least 2015. Anything I find interesting or entertaining, or anything I think I might want to reference again in the future, I download. Sometimes people delete or private their own uploads, but plenty of videos and entire channels have been nuked by YT themselves.

Looks like if a vid is age restricted -- and YT can age restrict stuff that isn't that mature BTW -- it becomes utterly inaccessible on any Invidious or Piped instance, and of course will not work on youtube.com/embed/ either: you gotta sign in on YT to see such vids.

Tamper monkey + Simple Youtube Age Restriction Bypass has worked consistently for getting around watching age-gated videos for me since it became an issue.

To censor "wrongthink" to try to make "an endless present"?
There is a science fiction series called Continuum that ran from 2012-2015 in which public governments are gone and the world is ruled by corporate oligarchs. That very idea has been put into effect as they remove records of anything older than a few years to the general public.

Supposedly, Invidious and NewPipe are planning a big update to combat YouTube's most recent spergery, so it is not over yet. Google must be working its trooncoders overtime to make the YouTube platform suck even more as it has been doing fervently for the past two months.

Extra dilation stations have probably been added on company grounds to handle the increased workload for Google's personnel.

Is there a way to use that without having to download or compile anything?

Hopefully. Like I said, seems Invidious has really gone to crap since the advertisers at YT started that "war on ad blockers" BS.

  • can't change the resolution from 360p on some instances
  • at least one instance can't even play vids because of some network error BS
  • and of course now just about every instance now is getting that "this helps protect our community" BS (from YT interfering with "sign in to confirm you're not a bot")

And like I said, more and more vids are being disabled from playback on other sites or embedded. They want everyone to live in the pods and eat the bugs and watch the ads.

That is just a userscript to be used in tandem with the Violentmonkey/Tampermonkey extension on your browser. Simply put it is an extension that allows you to run small snippets or introduce functionality to your browser that are more 'modular' or not worth an entire extension by themselves.

To answer your question though, you would need to download both the extension from your browser store/addon repo and then also install that userscript to your extension. Nothing stand-alone though.

If you don't mind having just tamper monkey or GreasyFork installed as your addon (I use Librewolf because I'm an autistic faggot) it should work on anything Mozilla, but can't say for Chromium there should be no problem.
Usually you can just search for the script you require via GreasyFork or Tamper Monkeys sites and install it that way without having to compile anything. Thats all I've done. GreasyFork repo for Simple YouTube Age Restriction Bypass link for convience
As long as you have GreasyFork or Tamper Mokey installed you should be able to automatically add that script to your script manager of choice.

Tell me about it.

I started seeing that over the weekend and wondered what it was about. I'm now at the point where even if the alternatives die off, I would rather do without than use the horrible, bloated, memory-hogging mess that is YouTube.

If YT didn't try to force users to watch ads (that "adlblocker bad" BS), then I may have still been using the YT site itself to this day, despite a number of site issues.

It's likely their BS campaign to push ads hasn't reduced traffic to the YT site itself much, with plenty of "normies" watching ads.
