Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

Makes one wonder how much this is for money or just cultural desire for power because I doubt that the people still struggling against adblocks will truly make a difference on their payroll.

Our society is a breeding ground of sociopaths and once they get to positions of power, they WILL abuse it.

Their latest trick seems to be loading a massive amount of ads if you have adblocker enabled, to slow down your browser a lot.
I have this and it's somewhat annoying when listening to music.
Solution: I have pirated all the music I listen to the last few days.
Thank you google for making me organize my music collection after all these years.

They also would throttle browsers other than Chrome this way. They would detect you using Firefox or whatever then just serve you something that would cause memory leaks or other issues that would slow your computer down to a crawl or require a hard reset. Last time they did this there was zero official response from Mozilla nor any warning to avoid using YouTube until the issue was resolved.

I know using the word "legal" when dealing with Google is an act of futility but is it even legal to boycott and affect other competing browsers like that?

It probably isn't legal but nobody is going to do anything about it because Google will probably just pay them to stay quiet.
 
Im guessing this has already been talked about so clock me idgaf, but holy shit the amount of softcore porn on YouTube has gotten absurd. Me and my gf stumbled across a channel comprised of nothing but livestreams of a looped video of a middle aged south east Asian couple playing in a river catching fish(?), this wouldn't be anything other than odd if it wasn't for every single thumbnail being a lady with her pussy out

Freetube seems to be working fine for me, in fact I've basically completely switched to it. Only issue I have is the weird bug most likely related to YouTube's anti-adblocking crusade where the video doesn't show up at all and shows as a blank page where the video was uploaded in 1969. Epic unix epoch moment.

There are quite a few softcore porn videos on YT. Those see-through try-on videos are copious, as are "yoga" videos where the women wear very revealing outfits. These channels always have links to their Linktree and similar accounts where they link to their OF (or an OF competitor I recently discovered called Fansly). These women know YT doesn't allow direct links to porn sites, so they get around it by linking to their Linktree pages.

Most of these channels make their videos age-gated, but not all.
 
It looks like Invidious instances seem to be getting attacked with 3 tactics of BS at the same time: some timeout BS or something that's reported as "looks like you found a bug!", that "this helps protect our community" or "sign in to confirm you're not a bot" BS, or videos loading really slowly. And some instances are limited to 360p at best.

YT really wants people to see those ads.

Ads have gotten worse for me. When two ads were playing, the skip button would skip both. Now it just skips to the next ad. My adblocker still works, but there aren't any for mobile, unless I use a browser on my phone. Does that eat up more data than using the official YouTube app?

If you are using Android you can use ReVanced and patch a stock YouTube apk to remove 99% of the shit. Otherwise, I do not see why using a browser version of YouTube would use much (if any) more data, especially if it has a functioning adblock that does not download the ad shit to display it to you.

Looks like if a vid is age restricted -- and YT can age restrict stuff that isn't that mature BTW -- it becomes utterly inaccessible on any Invidious or Piped instance, and of course will not work on youtube.com/embed/ either: you gotta sign in on YT to see such vids.
