I hate the record profits line. Shockingly, when the cost of everything goes up all the numbers go up. Sure that grocery store's profit might have doubled in dollar terms, but it's still 3% if their doing well.

Europe was out of the Dark Age by Charlemagne and the Renaissance has more to do with fleeing Eastern Roman/Byzantine scholars getting paid to translate Classical texts by wealthy Italians in the trade cities. I guess in a way the Mohammedeans did help the Renaissance along, just indirectly.
Trump should just find some Dominican lawyers to deal with the Haitians. Or just some Dominicans.

NGOs need to be banned from existing in general when their purpose for existing is facilitating illegal activity or creating problems. And the Catholics and various church orgs need to be banned from anything other than running worship services because they fuck things up anytime they do anything else. I say this as probably one of the minority of believers ITT, there's no reason a church should be involved in anything other than worship and local ministry, if your church has grown to a national organizational level it's probably gonna share the fate of some of the churches described in revelation. NGOs as they have been operated have largely been used as a way to run political agendas under the cover of religion and humanitarianism, and for all the cash they funnel through, how much fucking good have they done anyone other than protected minorities in this nation that we are in the state we're in?

But here's where I knew something was fucked: The Vegas Shooting guy was caught out for CP, yeah? Tumblr had to do an IMMEDIATE porn purge years ago. The reason was that CNet's Download.com, an old web 1.0 or 2.0 tech news site, had found out about a little... problem.
You see, Tumblr had, effectively, no moderation. Tumblrinas could run around doing whatever the fuck they wanted, and Tumblr's staff didn't do shit unless you implied gays or trannies weren't stunning and brave. This included shit like blogs about shoplifting, or open cyberstalking and harassment campaigns (the kind of shit we get accused of doing but don't actually do), or narcotics review blogs, or what have you. Well, towards the end, EXPLICITLY UNDERAGE Tumblrinas on the site started deciding to self report and catalog shit they were doing, like:
- Tricking men into statutory raping them via deceiving them about their age, and then showing off all the "Free stuff" their "sugar daddies" gave them to keep quiet. (They had a cute Tumblr name for this subculture, I forget the exact name. "Fishing" or something.)
- "Lifter" culture, as in, "Shoplifters," where basic bitch AWFLs in training would rob Sephora stores blind and brag about it on Tumblr -- because "fuk capitalismz; they have to steal to feed their families, you know?" (The takeaway here is Tumblrinas believed they can break the law if they want to, this comes up later.)
- Joining 18+ LGBTQ spaces, often with the stated goal of getting laid, and then going apeshit if the spaces blocked them
- eGrifting, constantly, CONSTANTLY, begging for money because they have no food and for some reason every other outlet -- food banks, charities, remote job postings -- won't work, just crypto or paypal, please.
- Shipping culture, which devolved into open support for pedophilia ("he's 14 and he's 40, they're SO good together, and if you disagree I'll fucking kill you. Now here's 15 gigabytes of photoshopped pictures of daddy cornholing his uwu softbaby's delectable anus. LIKES AND REPOSTS APPRECIATED")
- Posting not only CSAM-themed art, but... actual self made CSAM. Often "softcore" images, spurned on by the constant encouragement of the open and proud MAP (pedophile renamed as a sexuality) community. This included advertisements for "Premium Snapchat Packs" -- paypal them $15, and they'd send you a link on Snapchat to a MEGA archive with self made CSAM photosets and videos.
So Download.com asked the fine people at Apple and Google: "Hey, we've discovered Tumblr has a MASSIVE child pornography problem, it's affecting hundreds of thousands of users across tens of thousands of blogs posting Terabytes of it a day, this appears to be against the App Store TOS, do you have any comment?" And instantly, immediately, Apple and Google pulled Tumblr off their stores. Within minutes of getting the email, apparently.
That's when Tumblr announced no more porn. And that's when the Tumblrinas, who have never been told no in their lives -- daddy issues being a core element to their identity, after all -- lost their goddamned minds.
The fun thing being, those porn bots and their archives of porn -- including toxic (CSAM) images -- didn't go away. They moved to Reddit and Twitter. You'd have to be a goddamned moron to look at porn online nowadays. It's just not worth the risk.

It's not even really that as much as it's volume. The businesses that are profiting (Kroger, Walmart, etc) are able to do so because they have so much mass in the industry that they can afford to eat losses that others can't, so they can sell some products at a slight loss in many cases, so they can do more volume and keep their edge. It doesn't help that COVID closures shut down a lot of small businesses, leaving big retail chains as some of the only places to get some products. 3% profit translates to a lot of money when you were already one of the big fish in the pond so you have your own supply chains, distribution networks and warehouses, that are all part of their empire. When you're a small business owner who has to pay one of those larger stores higher costs to buy the product in bulk, pay a transportation firm higher costs to transport it, have to pay higher energy costs at any warehouses or buildings along with higher rent because you're not the millionaire who owns the building, and then you have to keep paying that every time you need new inventory, you're just fucked. Even the stores that cater to the low income customers are going under because although they deal high volume they don't have the same profit margins that stores like Walmart do.
