The point of the Rachni is ultimately a barometer about how you RP your Shepherd. How idealistic or ruthless or xenophobic are they? Beyond that, they have next to zero impact on the story, (though they are important for the setting's lore and background).

Its honestly notable how much the entire trilogy goes out of its way to present the Rachni in the most sympathetic light possible. You get more reasons in ME3 alone to sabotage the genophage.

so now darkspawn just spawn out of summoned shadow? they're not corrupted humans, dwarves and elves anymore? also the new designs look so ugly and generic. i'm guessing the tentacle lady is suppose to be another one of the magisters that entered the golden city, don't know how tentacles got involved in it though....

That entire situation was so goddamn retarded. The Rachni queen had to have been around Reaper tech for days at the very least, so her not being indoctrinated, which was what kicked off the Rachni invasion in the first place, is nearly out of the question. Sure, higher levels of indoctrination leaves the subject progressively less capable, but it's not like you need much of a brain to lay eggs. So, killing her is actually a very sensible option, but if you choose it, Shepard reacts like she willingly allied herself with the Reapers, and if you free her everything turns out totally fine.

Not to mention that if you killed her in ME1, the Reapers just make another one.

Nobody gives a shit. They are literally incapable of staying proper allies no matter what you do and trusting them is pure madness in retrospect.

I agree, but that's as far as it goes and it should not reward you for being benevolent to a bizzaro race of weak minded killing machines that'll turn on you every time the Reapers play a flute.
If anything, killing the rachni should be a big boost to the war score.

In context Shepard knows the war might last centuries and you need soldiers pronto, and the Krogan can multiply real fast and fight real good, so there shouldn't be a need to rig the genophage at all.

I've never been a Bioware fan and never even played the original Dragon Age, but I've experienced so many of my favorite franchises turn to irredeemable shit over the years that Veilguard just makes me sad by proxy. Reading all the comments regarding lore and characters ITT, I get a sense of true affection for these games, so my heart goes out to all you OG fans, as gay as that sounds. I mean, we're all adults and this is just another ruined video game, but it still hurts just a little bit when something you remember fondly is dug up from its peaceful grave only to be molested and mutilated by the zeitgeist.

More on topic, while some of those customization options are horrifying, I think not enough shit has been flung at the atrocious UI itself.

If I had seen this screenshot outside of this thread, I would have never guessed this to be the work of an experienced developer like Bioware. It looks like a generic low-effort template with a garish color filter some mobile game factory slapped on their latest churned-out card battler or gacha slop. If Bioware wanted to appeal to the "I've spent 10 hours in the character creator" crowd, maybe they should have gone with a UI that doesn't melt off your cornea within minutes of exposure.

Don't feel bad. No one who liked BioWare has had any hope for them since Andromeda and Anthem. And you could make a case for ME3/Inquisition as well. If anything it's amusing to finally see the trainwreck they've been making and even exceeding expectations.

The leviathan dlc casts doubt on whether or not the Rachni were even truly responsible for the war that bares their name. I’d say that, along with the Asari in ME2 telling you how wonderful they are, is pretty strong evidence you are supposed to sympathize with the rachni. It’s not even a case of fool me twice, given the Rachni queen is being held prisoner both times. The Rachni queen also isn’t directly mind controlled. Her brood is. If you’re going to kill the Rachni queen, do it in the first game.

Yes, toyed with them and I agree with you. Given their state of barbarity before their helped ascencion, the Council should have been just be as ruthless with them after the war, to give them another target(getting rid of pirates in the Attican Traverse for exemple), giving them a tight leash around their neck or to not let them develop at all. No planets, no colonies, just enough to be managable at best.

I mean those fuckers are tough, tough to the point of probably being able to survive their own stupidity by adpating fast and reproducing fast. They were pulled from an atrocious and very dangerous envrionement to another and then to a peaceful one after a victory against the rakni. Environment and circonstances shape a specie to a degree. Krogan were not shaped for peace, not properly, not even close.
