This is so fucking insidious.

The way that the app is set up means that Duolingo will not let you complete a lesson until you give the prescribed answer. You literally will not be able to advance, and therefore learn more of the language, until you give the answer they want.

Now, you might well say, "Well, what's stopping you from just saying the line? Who cares? You don't have to believe in it. Not every example phrase has to be true to your real life experience - la plume de ma tante n'est peut-être pas sur la table."

OK, but why is that the example in the first place?
You would never be asked to say, "I enjoy hip-hop, but in my opinion, black people are more violent."
That wouldn't be acceptable as an example.

But in order to advance in your course on this language app, these fucking trannies literally put words in your mouth and force you to parrot their opinions, just so you can advance in your learning.

Say. The. Line.

Someone made the decision to have the user say that phrase and I don't think it's out of line to suggest they may have had a motivated reasoning to make them say it.

A small thing that fucked me off recently, I heard a new shitty radio sitcom 'Do Gooders' that was on in the background, featuring a character that was meant to be an old school boomer guy who is a bit sexist, hates feminism, politically incorrect etc etc. And a HR woman character that talks about all the complaints of inappropriate behaviour she has had against him, the worst being "He kept reading out J K Rowling tweets!" as if this was the the absolute last straw. This anti-feminist boomer man is supposedly following JKR and her tweets about the violation of woman's rights, and this somehow proves what a chauvinist he is... ?

I can't tell whether they just wanted to shoe horn a jab at her in there somehow, or if she is just the new lazy writer's boogeyman that can be inserted to signal "this person is bad for liking this other person" even when it doesn't make any sense.

I just now discovered the Reflector podcast and I'm listening to the JK Rowling witch trials retrospective.

For starters, Controonpoints has a ridiculous voice. Trying to buy time and sound deliberate and considerate with his speech patterns while affecting this frail wispy voice when he just sounds brain damaged. How was this dude so successful? The things he says are so incredibly dumb and the ridiculous phony voice is simply the icing on the cake.

There's something really morbidly funny about the whole Lexi Bowen situation, if you ask me.
