Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

Okay honest to God, I think they really do hate their fanbase. I've never seen even the worst HOI4 fan bases like Kaiserreich get this sneedy and butthurt over what sort of memes and content their community makes. For me its just the sheer scope of what they banned. I am uncertain what people are even supposed to post in their reddit with rules like this. Some of it feels like its them huffing their own fart (Ummm you can only post portraits unless we deem them to be AS good as ours Chuddy!).

Feel like Red Flood did a pretty good job at making both of them interesting. Churchill in India and the civil war in Japan is at least kinda fun.
Churchill's India is a surprisingly well-made character study and alt-hist idea. Take one of the most celebrated heroes of modern western mythology, have him be a washed up failure that pays the price for Galipoli and then play into his more unsavory characteristics. It really is a very fun "what if". Compare that to contemporary TNO, Mexico being a fine example: Wikipedia copy-paste jobs with everyone staying relatively close to their historical self as if the Axis victory never happened. RF Churchill with that mentality would've been Britain's PM in 1940 and made speeches about how "if France invaded hell" in relation to his support for Goebbels in that timeline. That'd be their idea of something deep and profound.
Is there any leaks or shit about what their plan was? I know as far back as that failed Kaiserreich visual novel they said the commune was going to be axed so I guess three India is here to stay. Probably for the best.
Secondhand from my time in the KX community so take it with a pitch of salt but it's a lot like the TNO plan for India. Princely Federation gone and instead you had the Raj and Hindustan. Hindustan is the Bharatiya Commune but with a wider scope (not just far-left leaders but Ghandi and Bose were there) while the Raj was mostly similar to the current Delhi government. I think the borders were meant to be changed so that it was a northern Hindustan VS a southern Raj too. Pakistan was also going to be an optional tag that could form under the right conditions I think, or it might have been there from the start, I honestly don't remember. You can find proof these planned changes in the game files, I remember a dev bitching about the tag "BHC" (Bharatiya Commune) being changed to HND (Hindustan) and DEH (Delhi Government) to RAJ which was completely pointless because the rework hadn't happened yet. But it lines up with the planned rework.

Methinks the TNO team glanced rather closely at KR's homework when making their own plans because now you have... A west-oriented India, Azad Hind, and an optional formable Hindustan, with a lot of OTL leaders in the mix. Their Pakistan teaser just had an OTL PM and that was it. Compare that to the old Panzer-era plans which even had a BurgSys India planned. Instead, the few remaining TNO fans get "realism." 💀

What you can post is what we found a few threads ago: Redditors making AARs of skeleton content because they removed all existing content and refuse to make any new.

I wonder what's also the status of the Russia rework then?
The KR team allegedly feels pretty confident it'll be out this year, or early 2025 at the latest. Pretty generous of them to take a break from reworking obscure China warlord tags, if you ask me.

Here's the PR on it from 4 years ago:

It was so widely shit on that the dev quit the team altogether

I forgot that there even was a PR about it and just vaguely remembered people talking about it. I can see why my brain decided to repress it and all its pointless mini states. This is bad.

I'll believe it when I see it and even than I'll stick to KX, thank you.

As much as I hate to agree with TNO Jannies, the reddit-tier HOI4 memes and posts are just awful in general, but that is on them for using Reddit in the first place.

Likewise. KX Savinkov is far more fun to play and go down the Hitler rise to power parallels than whatever shitty slop Kaiserdevs will push out.

Both KR and TNO are coded by children and mentally ill university students, so it's not surprising they come to the same conclusions. KR and TNO influence each other in an endless loop, which perpetuates even as their playerbase declines. Both have become progressively (pun intended) blander over the years, as their dev channels became overly bureaucratized ideological masturbation sessions. Neither has clear leadership, so nobody will take responsibility for the health of the mod as a whole. There are git owners, but they just hang in the background and abuse their control over the code to force other devs to bend over for them. "Lore conflicts" and "outdated design" are bywords for "the regional teams were having a retard fight". The devs put on airs in public chats, but their cretinism is betrayed by their utterly incompetent release schedule. The only reason they aren't consistently lambasted is because their userbase is staffed by yet more children and mentally ill university students.

When a hypothetical hoi5 comes along in several years, I don't think KR and TNO will make a clean jump. KR will have to deal with competition from KX as well as new and up and coming modders. TNO will be stuck on hoi4 for several years at least, and if it ever releases, any wide appeal will be long gone. This is all of course assuming that hoi5 isn't an utter cesspit like ck3 and vic3.

Good post, can't do anything but agree. I just hope TNO gets its of KX-style competition eventually so that I can enjoy that universe the same way KX allows me to enjoy KR without all the deworks.

Given Paradox's track record? While I'm cautiously optimistic about EU5, I'd bet that we'd be sticking to EU4 and HOI4 for quite a while given the track record of Paradox.

Good on them for canceling it, that looked absolutely atrocious. The one thing I am curious about though is if they'd represent the remnants of the Raj's supposed technological superiority by giving them decent buffs and pretty bad debuffs to the Hind.

Its also part of the reason that KX is able to update itself so fast. They don't have retard fights or tism on what the good honest lore is. If you got an idea and you can code into the game it goes. I still remember one story that a guy had the Luxembourg focus tree come to him in a dream, wrote down what he could remember, asked the dev team to add it and they did. Whereas in KR they would as if this fits in with the lore or not and be stupid petty faggots on anything they did not fit. Should also point out its been pointed out in the past on this thread that these retards build like the Manhattan project. Keeping stuff secret not only from each other but other dev teams. Its why there is so little interaction between even the socialist states in the so called international.

You know they wouldn't. It would make the poos look bad and also justify colonialism or some shit. Instead you'd have it in reverse where the Raj has a million debuffs and Hindustan had like a billion buffs to it of the smartest poos making it a superpower by 1940. Something you see a lot in Paradox games as think even TNO and TWR's segregation national spirit gives you a research debuff since you don't have black science man or whatever the fuck sorta logic they have.

I've said this before I believe, but I kind of want to update and fix one of the old builds of TNO. I wonder how the hoi4 modding community would react if the evil nazi forum made a fork of their broken cancer mod.

EUV also interests me (easier ERE runs), but I'm going to wait and see. I always buy pdx games on sale anyway.

I've had the privilege of reading through this thread, so I'm familiar with Panzer paranoid schizophrenic tendencies. I always suspected that there was something wrong with TNOs development but I never thought there would be something that stupid going on.

While I generally love this about KX, it does lead to some stupid shit down the road. Good example, province size:

It's fucking retarded in Africa, fighting across the Congo in particular is an awful experience

I have no experience modding HOI4 besides a retarded joke portrait mod in 2017 and attempting(and failing) to make a custom radio station but I imagine that fixing the province sizes shouldn't be an issue as long as you don't mess with their respective states as well. This goes to show how high quality KX is that their biggest issues are all technical rather then in their content.

It will fuck shit up if you aren't careful, at least unless things have changed in the few years since I tinkered with it. IIRC there's also a maximum number of provinces, so one still should be slightly choosey on what gets to be a province.

It's relatively easy to start with but becomes an exponentially larger headache every time Paradox updates the map.

That's the reason as to why they won't add Alaska to OWB, for example. They would reach the maximum province size and would have to choose between Alaska+Artic Canada or part of the East Coast
