Plagued /r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
The province limit is roughly 21 000 provinces, vanilla has about 14 000. I wonder how many OWB has if they're approaching the province limit already.
Most of their future content is more or less planned already, so I'd say that they currently have slightly more provinces than vanilla, but the province limit has led to many changes in development. Nordikon (the bunch of AIs that were around Calgary back in 3.0) got cut because of it

There used to be a tag limit as well, but pdx removed it in an update.
I will always love how Hoi4 is both an extremely rigid game with tons of absurd limitations and an extremely flexible tool where you can make different economic simulators and re-create basically every media franchise ever

I love/hate modding hoi4. It's stupidly easy a lot of the time, but then there are times that stuff doesn't work for bizarre reasons.

Example: Effects and triggers involving custom variables do not work in on_actions, regardless of the scope. This is annoying since it forced me to use an endlessly repeating mission for mechanics involving variables, which is both annoying and resource heavy. However, I recently discovered if you code in custom variable triggers/effects into a custom effect, and then place the custom effect into on_actions, then the variable triggers/effects do work.

And don't get me started on map modding.

Damn we are never going to get a fully developed North America if this is true. How the fuck am I going to rebuild America from the ashes of Chicago now?

Oh look a rare actually charming meme from reeeeddit.

It's my weakest field, granted, but there's a reason most mods just use the default map with the provinces changed around. Map modding is EXTREMELY finicky. Alter one pixel in the province bmp file, and you're getting guaranteed insta crashes. Minor adjustments require manipulation of several different files, none of which follow the standard scripting of everything else in hoi4. The built in nudge tool is supposed to help you with this, but it's busted to Mesopotamia and back. It might work, but it might also just crash the game. Oh, and good luck finding out what's wrong with the map files. The error log puts out diddly squat in terms of map errors, so enjoy digging through crash logs and xml files idiot!

Your best bet is to find a russian furry who is willing to stop binge drinking long enough to assist you. He'll look at your code, do something inexplicable, everything will work, and he'll call you a moron and leave. The primary drawback of this strategy is that you have to use discord, and you have to willingly speak to a furry. But such is the burden of those who pursue the forbidden knowledge of Johan's Digital Fart Cloud, also known as the Clausewitz Engine.

Well to be fair, it might have been like that on launch, but these days making completely new maps is not hard at all with the tools we have. Of course, it still takes time and effort, it's still creative work and all that, so you wont get it done in a day unless you're making some sort of meme mod.

Mapgen is very useful don't get me wrong, but it doesn't do absolutely everything for you. Building positions, weather positions and stuff like that you still have to do yourself, along with any bug fixing. Additionally, further alterations to the map will have to be done manually.

I haven't played the mod but aren't the Senkaku islands mostly uninhabited? By its very definition a province would have to have a large enough population to conscript from in order to be corable by any nation. I don't think that any nation should have the Senkakus as a core unless some colonization shenanigans give it a permanent population of at least a few thousand.
Cores really don't work that way. For example, the state of Rub' al-khali has 42 people there, and Yukon has 10, and both are cores of Saudi Arabia and Canada respectively. The US can also core Attu Island and it has 12 people at game start. The grievances are mostly due to, obviously, extreme nationalism

Basically Italy is an economic and political crisis, the First Republic fell, and you can get the MSI as well as Berlusconi. Neat
excited to see the UK Teasers next, Can't remember where exactly, but i'm pretty sure one dev said there's imperialist or Authoritarian paths, wonder what they'll do for those. curious also if there'll be Far left paths as well

Red Dusk Italy teaser

Red Dusk is shaping up to be TNO but good. I mean that unironically. It has a lot of the same features: proxy war and volunteers, minigames for the proxies and for the nations you puppet with them, each leader gets their own in-depth focus tree, long narrative events, etc. Yet somehow unlike TNO its not cancer both the mini-games and even its narrative events and how it presents itself. Honestly I chalk it up to them not moral grandstanding like TNO. You don't get told you are bad as America or the USSR, or China for your foreign policy.

Honestly it sorta shows how TNO's Axis wins scenario hurts it. Due to its nature its filled with faggot devs and faggot users who feel the need to barge in down your throat and tut tut you on whatever you do which I think is the true reason people find TNO grating. Red Dusk was somehow able to combine its ingredients into an actual dish and meal. The fact they are also actually adding in content and showing it while not hating their own fanbase is another plus.

So a Rotermorgen "Revamped" mod has been out for quite a while, but i got tipped off by a buddy of mine that apparently, simply posting a screenshot of this mod on the KX reddit can result in not only you getting warned and the post deleted, but in some cases a ban. (this also very likely occurs in their discord)

It's pretty well known that KX despises RM's stuff, theres a bunch of different reasons why. but this Revamped mod apparently has some uhh controversial things in it

KX itself has some pretty edgy shit in it so i don't see the point in them sperging out this hard about a Rotermorgen submod, Do not be surprised if this submod also gets taken down, same thing happened with Uberreich, but that's up for debate whether it was KX devs trying to get people to mass report it or not. If anybody is interested in playing the submod before it gets mass flagged, i'll send it here as well.
