Hurricane Helene / Invest 97L

Just get the hell out of California, man. That place will be an open air mass grave when a megaquake happens.
My whole life is here. All my family, all my friends, my business. I don't know anyone out of state and I'd be moving alone if I decided to leave. I'll just do my best to prepare for a bug-in situation and ride the shit out. As bad as this place can be sometimes it's still home. Gotta take care of the parents eventually too

I'm going to volunteer for something (I applied to Red Cross) and ask my employer for liberty to leave. If he says no I'll honor that; I fairly contracted with him for a year at a time.

My biggest fear is being separated from my cat. Among other things, their lifespans just aren't that long. Even a month away from them is like years away from a human in terms of sacrifice.

Fuck you, we've prioritized children, expectant/nursing mothers, the elderly, and the disabled/infirm first and foremost. We're all in deep shit right now, and being a dicksucking child rapist doesn't grant you any special privileges. Either contribute to the cleanup and safety of the communities, or shut the fuck up and stay off the air. Every scrap of wireless bandwidth is needed so our emergency services can do their jobs and so missing persons can get in contact with rescuers and loved ones.

Yeah, hurricanes are really awe-inspiring at times. I always a feel of twinge of guilt about saying that because obviously they bring death and destruction, but OTOH nature is wild. For all the pain it caused, Katrina was a beautiful bitch too:

Anyway, I’m surprised most of the deaths have been in the Georgia/Carolina area (so far), but it’s possible a lot of them just didn’t get the memo. Everyone tends to think only the areas around landfall are going to be the worst hit, and well, that’s just not the case.
When hurricane Harvey occurred in Houston in 2017 one of the biggest killers was just the sheer amount of flooding that Harvey brought to an already rain soaked east texas that year.
In places like Appalachia where you Harvey soil that's less absorbant and elevation differences flooding tends to be worse.
Quote from smug lefty cunt at work: "And these idiots want to defund FEMA. Did you know the moron governor of Tennessee refused disaster aid and instead called for a statewide day of prayer?"

I am grateful for these interactions, as they remind me how insufferable these people are. Here's hoping the casualties are lower than expected.

Edit: Defund, not refund.
Its always the smug lefties that say shit that makes you want to blow their brains out.
This is record breaking shit for the area but still nothing compared to Katrina. Bout 30 years ago there was a hurricane that came in from the east but didn't do fuck all compared to this in the region.
Katrina actually could have been less deadly and was made into a shitshow by the negligence and bickering of new Orleans mayor and the lousiana governor.
Most of those deaths that occurred in New Orleans were from the levees being breached and people being unable to evacuate from the city.

What do you expect from a climate and gender reporter with no science background from privileged parents. She being torn apart for that comment at least. Looking at her work and company, it actual comes across as excitement over human tragedy to use for a agenda with lack of care for anyone but herself.

Having a month worth of food doesn’t matter much when a flood takes your whole house.

Also a screen shot of a TikTok showing a screenshot of what’s it’s allegedly been like on the ground
this is legitimately sickening. I really hope this is a case of "why would people lie on the internet?"

I really, deeply appreciate when leftists/socialists/communists go mask-off and show how they wish death for anyone who hasn't ascribed to their lunacy. A number of leftists have gone on Twitter to gloat over people who are suffering in NC/TN, saying that they're now relying on or begging for socialism/communism. They've conflated basic human decency with their desire for power made manifest in a bullshit political system.

A leftist federal government is slow to respond - according to the highest position in said government, they're not going to do anything "else" for the people affected by this hurricane. How is leftism/socialism/communism working out for Asheville who wanted it?

Americans deserve to be helped in times of great trouble, regardless of whether we're being ruled over by authoritarian, incompetent chimpanzees in suits or not and regardless of whether or not you voted for said bespoke simians.

Another friend of mine works in the tree cutting industry and says things are rather tame in west Asheville and there hasn't been much looting.

Different take than another friend who works in a small business in the area who says there is looting, but it makes sense from different vantage points. Tree cutter friend is optimistic about West Asheville, and says they are making good progress on clean up. West Asheville was spared a lot of it, which makes sense geographically.

I reckon Leicester is doing alright as well, glory to God. Does anyone have any word on Fletcher?

I personally don't give a shit who they voted for, unless they're actively looting and vandalizing and hindering recovery/relief efforts, those people in Ashville deserve aid.
Hurricane Helene has already killed a shitload of people, ruined countless lives, potentially set North Carolina and Tennessee's economies back decades, erased literal centuries of history, and she didn't give one single solitary fuck about what letter was put on the ballot as she did it.
Right now, politics are irrelevant. All that matters is good, decent, law-abiding folk get the aid they fucking deserve. Nobody who isn't a criminal deserves to die cold, alone, starving, and in the dark, cut off from any hope of rescue.

I've never understood the need for horses in situations like this. Just use a bike, gas is being rationed and you aint dead yet. So get off your ass and propel yourself with whatever you had for breakfast this morning.
Horses have more benefits to bikes. One they can cross high and steep grades,
Two horses can literally ride into battle with you and sometimes if you know your horse an alert horse can tip you off to trouble.
Sure you have to feed em and need land for em but as long as the horse is fed, healthy and doesn't break its legs you have an animal, transportation, and luggage storage too.
Sometimes in some situations a living creature is more reliable than any vehicle.

I hope that's just a typo and meant to say 90... or, better yet, completely made up.
I hope this isn't true. I fucking PRAY this isn't true.
I'm with you on hoping it's a complete fabrication, but if it is a lie I hope the kind of person who would try trolling and spreading falsehoods about casualties on Nextdoor of all places gets beaten with a lead pipe.

There have been a number of homeless people in Asheville, but 900 does seem a bit extreme for just bodies strewn about and the only post being from Nextdoor.
Asheville is the Portland (Oregon) of the mountains. There are tons of homeless there, almost 800 count earlier this year: https://avlwatchdog.org/ashevilles-...pite-concerted-efforts-new-permanent-shelter/

Looks like they put them in East Asheville (or tried to) and niggers can't swim so RIP.
