A review of publicly available documents for cases of his shows repeated dropped balls, memorialized in letters from him to the Court begging forgiveness and for the Court not to punish his client for his mistakes. He didn't even show for April's ticket hearing (which was remote, ffs) in the spring, despite appearing on record as her attorney. He is presumed to be competent until proven otherwise.
That doesn't prove incompetence, and plenty of lawyers fuck up from time to time, but the difference between a lawyer who
fucks up with few consequences and a lawyer who gets sanctioned or disbarred for it (and I know one who in fact was disbarred by MN precisely for failing to tend to cases properly) is often a matter of of things outside the lawyer himself - indulgence of the Court, knowledge/ ability (or lack of) of the client(s) to pursue action, or ultimate impact on the client(s). There's a reason a lot of lawyers are neurotic.
Going to disagree (and not to you but to Mr. Busybody over there: idc if it's been discussed. It happened just a couple of years ago, he seemed and seems to stand by it, and it's still unbecoming). DUI Guy is an officer of the Court and a representative of a profession in that profession's house. Not tarding out in that context is basic professionalism. He was also front row (iirc - but either way, close enough to be noticed). And from the lawtuber perspective, he was at least a bit of a representative of the general enterprise of online legal commentary, even if not some kind of badged rep (and iirc, he sort of was there as a rep - or at least he was talking with and sharing info with them from his on-the-ground perspective). Reputation matters to most people; for most lawyers it is important professionally; and the Bar also cares about it. The DUI Guys and the Rekietas of the world may think it doesn't, and maybe in their arenas you can make a buck without it (well, at least apparently DUI Guy can). But they aren't the standard for most.In fairness to DUI Guy and something that Nick mentioned too, because it was a response to a particular burn from a witness to Heard's lawyer the entire court room basically went "WHOAAA". Unprofessional? Maybe, but he was tarding alongside the court. I don't feel he should have been raked over the coals for going with the flow.
And to the one so upset about a little ribbing for a minor but telling dumb judgment: until you repeated his name several times in the last couple of pages, I had no recollection of it. So thanks - I can now say with precision that Larry Forman was a dumbass and an embarrassment in that courtroom. Good job, though tbh I'll likely edit it from my memory by tomorrow.
