If TLL is staffed with the people we know it's staffed with they'd just dismiss anyone with SRS as truscum.
has anyone ever recorded a call to TLL?
Damn, I didn't even really consider that, thanks for pointing it out. I just figured it was presumably legal but couldn't be used as evidence in court or something like that. But I'm no legal expert, especially not in US law.TLL is based in California, which is a two party consent state (i.e. if you make a recording you need the consent of both parties to do so.) So I would not recommend recording a call to TLL because it is illegal regardless of where you are based (pls lawyers correct me if I'm wrong.)

This is generally the case, although it is not illegal where you are actually doing it if it is a one party state. You are, however, breaking the law in California, and California could extradite you or the party in California could sue you. Or both.
IANAL, so I have no idea if this actually matters or not. Thanks for calling, please hold while we connect you to a volunteer. To ensure the quality of our services and for internal training purposes, this call may be recorded.
It's worth mentioning people in California record phone calls all the time, usually for prank calls. If you're smart then you won't get caught.
Ideally I'd still avoid it if you really don't know what you're doing. Greta is exactly the kind of person who would take any legal action possible if it means furthering his bullshit crusade.
When you call the hotline, you are greeted with the following message:

Tommy Tooter recorded himself calling a bunch of suicide lines including TLL
The thread's only 180 pages, people-- keep up.

So even though the majority of the people who take calls are not in California, the two party consent law still applies? Like if an operator answers a call in a one-party consent state from a suicidal person in a one-party state, both need to approve being recorded because TLL is based in California?

I know someone who called TLL because they had transitioned and became depressed and suicidal due to having regrets and wanting to go back to the way they were before.
They were yelled at and attacked by the operator for "not being a true trans" when they finally got through
That's really fucked up and exactly the kind of stuff TLL shouldn't be doing. Your friend should write that down and post it online.
