He really, really wanted Vance to attack him on some of his obvious weaknesses. Like his military service, or going to China. They repeatedly dangled those in front of Vance as pretty obvious bait. He probably had some real zingers prepared if Vance did so -- but Vance never did.
I like to beleive that part of Vance's prep was knowing not to strike these weakpoints, at least directly. The Dems know those are the long hammered points of attack and would(if they're smart, tall order I know) shore up defenses around them.

The only real shortcoming I saw from Vance was a tendency to kind of slouch and glare when he wasn't speaking. He seemed to kind of turn his head low and glower toward Walz when it would have been better to stand straighter and look at him with bemused skepticism. Any problems with this body language were offset by the fact that all of Walz's nonverbal communication was abysmal. When Vance was speaking Walz gave the impression of alternating rage and dread and he showed little control over his emotions in general, and he also slouched a lot and came off as really "crotchety" in general. Definitely not a person you'd want in charge of anything important.

I don't know if Vance could have been briefed better on how to pose for this particular camera setup. This stuff can stick in people's minds on a subconscious level, and while his appearance as a dignified statesman wasn't perfect, it was nothing compared to Walz's disastrous showing tripping over himself every few minutes.

2020 has set some pretty strong precedents about how fighting a fraudulent election is not allowed.
Note that when Trump wins in November this will no longer apply. Violent rioting will be encouraged, especially if they lose the house and senate. Kamala might even try to refuse to certify the election, even if they passed a law removing that as an option from the VP afterward 2020. Expect a whole lot of fun.

I haven't got that far into it yet but if this is how he handled it then it's a little like stopping when you're ahead. Those weaknesses of Waltz are out there and known and I'd imagine somewhat settled in Vance and Trump's favour. So just leave them standing that way and deny opportunities for Waltz to try and change the outcome anywhere there's real audience.

I'm more and more impressed with Vance. I like a lot of what Trump has done but his manner is obviously not calculated to appeal to people like me (that's okay - there are more people like those Trump does appeal to than people like me he doesn't). Vance on the other hand talks in a manner I find far closer to my own preferred style.

What if Trump turns out not to have been Jesus after all, but John the Baptist?

The worst attack is the most obvious one. What he did showed Walz to be a bumbling jackass that shouldn't be anywhere near the reins of power.

In the wise words of @The Last Stand "I don't get it"

Tim wasn't important enough to get invited to the Epstine club, which is fine because as a coach he has his own source of young ass and he found new vampire pedophile billionaires to hang out with in China.
Tim Walz had two decades of coaching to pull a Dennis Hastert (R) and rape teenage boys. No evidence. He's as pedo adjacent as the average Democrat, sure, but otherwise he's just a generic communist.

Meanwhile Jimmy Vance is directly funded by a pedophile vampire and likely engaged in gay orgies with him. Huh. Totally kosher. If Vance doesn't rape kids himself, then he sure is okay hanging around people who do. We know he loves gay pride parades like when he wrote glowingly about attending San Francisco Pride 2015.

Won't happen because this election is within the margin for fraud, ergo Trump will lose. Why fix what isn't broke? They've perfected the election theft machine.

I was bullish on Vance already, but that performance, in my mind, cemented him as the future of the party.

People like J.D. and Vivek engage opposition in such a charismatic way. They're not trying to prove you wrong or embarrass you, they're empathizing with your actual perspective and then opening the conversation. This is the perfect, and only, strategy to break programming and brainwashing.

That was a wonderful debate to watch.

Only high IQ and high energy allowed on Trump train.

It's possible they don't want him doing the look of bemusement because Trump nailed that in the Biden debate and with Vance they want a contrast to Trump. His purpose is to draw in those who don't like Trump and someone who seems like he is taking matters seriously is a tonal difference to Trump's more flippant manner.

It'd be fascinating to see the debate prep the two candidates had. I'd put money there'll be some utter insanity in both.

I skipped out on the debate who had the best performance.
Vance. It wasn't even close. The guy just extrudes confidence. Walz was pressured just a tiny bit at times and gave us funny clips like "I misspoke! *akward silence*", "I'm a knucklehead" and "I've become friends with school shooters", the latter is probably terrible wording and he meant to say "school shooter victims" but I'm pretty sure everyone listening had to do a retake.
