You can try and ban them, but they can just circumvent literally all of your bans and attempts to get them to fuck off (in the same way that Barneyfag was able to constantly circumvent 4cuck bans for years). So the owner inevitably gives up and closes the site.
As someone who prefers good imageboards to good forums (forums can never emulate the experience of constantly seeing new threads and discussion spawn in the occurrence of a major event, it's like watching fireworks explode), imageboards were alright when it was the 2000s and the Internet was composed mainly of above average IQ first-worlders and society wasn't batshit insane. You didn't need the barriers that a forum had back then, but now that its the 2020s and the Internet is swamped with turd-worlders and the mentally ill, you need a gated community. Thats why even the Sharty became shit in 2-3 years after it was founded.
Anonymity on 4chan is an outdated marketing gimmick. Never forget the guy who got arrested for posting death threats and "in Minecraft" didn't save him. I think what will really kill 4chan for good is a data leak containing post histories.

I know that. I meant that I think part of why 4chan is still being talked about to this day is that there are people who still hold on to the image of 4chan being a completely anonymous website. If that image was hypothetically destroyed either by a few more arrests related to 4chan or a giant leak, then it would be the last reason anyone would possibly have to still post on 4chan gone.

Now I'm not sure how accurate this info is because I heard it from semi reputable randoms, but my understanding is that moot went to work for google, ended up being transferred to google Japan, eventually left the company, and is now living in Japan with a Japanese wife or girlfriend I can't remember which. Bare in mind that could all be horse shit though.

I couldn't imagine the social pressure he must have been under to walk away from the site he founded, making that money in a gig industry. There was a TED talk with him glowing about how they caught serial killers and rapists. The HWNDU event feels like it was the last hurrah of a dying site.
