Maybe a good fork idea would be to gut out anything that was actually useful and doing a library.

I've finally caught up on the thread and all the recent Godot drama that I personally have been following myself on social media and by lurking the Godot (formerly official) Discord server. I have seen multiple people post a lot of YouTube videos but nobody dropped this here, which I think it's an interesting read: Waiting for Blue Robot

Former contributor to Godot talks about how all of it is a fucking scam and how the show is ran, alongside the cult behavior and notable Persons of Interest.
As someone pointed out, Godot is ridiculously fucking expensive to port to consoles, even more than Unreal, which is more expensive than Unity. That "book" basically goes over on how Juan and his cohorts of privately owned for-profit companies use Godot Foundation as a way to gain infinite amount of money while still saying "boo-hoo we're Open Source" to gain free labor and donations, which reminds me of Wikipedia. Also explains how they redefine concepts such as "community driven", how Juan just straights up lies about how the project or other projects work, or how they are trying to make a paid asset store akin to Unity for profit. (Big page)

Also something else that this thread might be interested on is this section that points out Red Hat's connection to Godot Foundation, just in case you thought that Wayland was the only project that was getting swamped by them.
tl;dr godot is shit lmao it hasn't delivered and it will never deliver, it's just Juan's money milking machine, go back to Unity and stay in pre-2023 with the old license or just pay up the license fee (which is still less than Unreal), or make your own engine or use something like Bevy (Rust ECS) or Defold (Lua) or take the Amazon pill and use O3DE (Lua, apparently.)

Without commenting on the book (because I haven't read it): here's some comments on those suggestions.
Bevy - No editor. Can't comment on how finished the API is.
Defold - Not actually open source and owned by King
O3DE - bizarre CryEngine fork handed down through multiple teams. 20GB install last I checked.

The defold foundation is now separate but from what I can find, King is still the primary funder.

C# is basically treated like a third class citizen, and Godot's CSG tools suck fat dick so much, people have to make export plugins to import Quake maps into the engine. Someone should try and convince me why I shouldn't just wait for S&box, since Facepunch is promising standalone exporting, doesn't want a percentage cut from game sales, and that it ships with Hammer 2 (Which let's be real, is the only modern equivalent to a full fat level editor).

I don't care for Godot's gimmicky Python interpreter language.
