Heroin used to be in drug stores as cough medicine and big cities then didn't have the same problems portland does now.
I agree with everything except this. Some taxes and safety regulations on them sure, but the free market will make better, cheaper, higher quality drugs than the government will.government owns and controls the supply of drugs and monetizes it.
My problem with the get them treatment argument is that drug addicts have to be compelled to get treatment, and the drug legalization crowd is against mandating treatment like the Taliban did, so they end up never getting help for their drug addiction. I also recall hearing that over 50 percent of people who went to drug clinics repeat using drugs after going to them.Cart before the horse thing. Divert drug offenders into treatment programs--what treatment programs? No time to set any of that up; decriminalize first!
